Dear Valued Guest
There is nothing more we like hearing than that our guests were able to rest and relax in comfort at our hotel after a tiring day in Petra. We are pleased that you found the rooms clean, comfortable and quiet and that you were able to enjoy using the pool and jacuzzi.
We hope that the rest of your holiday in Jordan was just as rewarding.

We had no reservation, but where lucky to have a room. Travelling with an 18month year old (and being 30 weeks pregnant) we chose Amra Palace because of the excellent reviews and facilities. The staff was very friendly and gave us excelent advise on how to spend our time in Petra. Definately worth while to spend your time here, while visiting Petra.

Booked to stay here for 3 nights and were delighted from the word go! We did change our room to a higher third floor one - well worth it for the view. Dinner was excellent with Jordanian specialities and was reasonably priced. Staff were excellent. Khaled one of the owners takes a great deal of pride in helping and suggesting trips and the hotel is a credit to him and his brother. We had a Turkish bath while we were there (first time experience) and would highly recommend it. Overall we were pleased we had chosen the Amra Palace above any other one in Petra and would stay here again.

Overall it was good value for money. We stayed in a standard double room in April 2013. It was not luxurious but clean and practical. I'd say it's above the standard you'd expect from a 3 star hotel, but not as good as a good 4 star hotel. The main advantages were a large and comfortable double bed, good breakfast buffet and a very friendly and helpful staff. The only serious inconvenience for me was that the room was very cold. We were told that the heating is disabled this time of year.

Stayed here for a night, clean rooms very helpful staff and only a short walk to town for dinner. The hotel is opposite the local mosque but the rooms have 2 time double glazing, so no real problem. Did not use pool but inside. Breakfast OK.

What we liked:
Clean, comfortable rooms with everything working the way it was supposed to.
Relative value for money compared to some of the other hotels near the entrance to Petra park.
Easy access to and from the Petra entrance, 5 min car ride and hotel shuttle in the morning and evening.
Decent quality and quantity of food at the breakfast and dinner buffet.
Friendly and helpful staff.

What we didn't like:
There wasn't anything in particular we disliked.
Just be aware rooms are small and this is a 3 star hotel in a small town in Jordan with welcoming staff and decent accommodations to make the visit to Petra a pleasant experience.

We booked 3 double rooms for our group of 6 adults and 4 young kids.

If you are driving, upon arriving the outside of the hotel, drive on another 3 meters, and you will see to your right, the parking entrance of the hotel. before stepping into the reception, 2 or 3 bell hops hustled toward our vehicles to assist with the luggages. We had previously stayed at another hotel nearer Petra entrance and didn't get any bell hop service so this was very nice welcome.
If you are driving, call ahead as you are close to arriving and the friendly front desk guys (Mohammed, Ahmed) will give you directions in perfect english. There is also a huge well positioned sign of the hotel on the roof top.

We arrived about 9pm straight from Amman, so the party of 10 can't wait to sit down and enjoy dinner but front office didn't get the hint and insisted on the check in first. It was a bit annoying as we were starving although i have to say they offer a very interesting way of checking in guests with a whole rhetoric of good humor and good info plus maps of the area, hotel facilities, etc they also sell tickets to Petra and if its your first time, do not hesitate to ask for referrals - I saw guests getting picked up for tours. No taxis loitering outside touting for businesses unlike if you stay in hotels near the entrance of Petra. Nice touch that they offered delicious rose juice for welcome drinks.

Dinner buffet was excellent. For a great price of only 7.8jd, you get a whole spread of grilled chicken, yellow or fragrant rice with pine nuts, beef (sliced thin and yummy) and veggie, fish (v good too), big variety of arabic and western style appetizers - u have to try the marinated small fish with lemon -very tasty, Arabic foul and crispy bread sticks, and deserts! I am a foodie and we have lived in Middle East for 7 years so in comparison against the market, I am impressed with this quality. I am not encouraging them to increase their price, but truly most hotels in town charges more for their standard buffet ( usually between 10-20jd). another reason not to pay top dollar to stay in a place nearer the petra entrance as everything else will be marked up higher. Of course, if you are staying more nights, its fun venturing into town and try the cute restaurants and explore. But it's hard to beat the quality and value here. Drinks aren't included but our young children ate for free. Big compliments to the chef (his name is on the plaque on the front desk - selected as the best staff of the month of April). The evening wait staff (slim, jordanian guy, wish i remember his name) offered wonderful table service. He was very prompt, spoke great english and helped us avail the kitchen freezer and fridge for a few of our personal items. He was the only guy I didn't get a chance to leave a tip with. And, I wouldn't hold back tipping any staff in this hotel - a jd or two here or there really makes their day and you will be remembered and assisted even better than the already good service!

Our room numbers were 106, 108, 110. We were given rooms with views of wadi musa and the nice garden terrace below but as others stated, these rooms face the mosque. My friends from the other two rooms complained it was very warm ( not a huge problem since spring evenings are still cool) despite the AC being set low. I had to wake up at night to switch off the 'AC' and open the window. The fresh cool air outside beat the AC 10 times. In the morning, the loud call of prayer woke me up but once I shut the windows (triple paned) it deafened the noise a lot. If any, the AC would be my only concern and complaint esp a visit in the hotter time of the year.

All the pillows are too tall but bedding is very clean and comfortable. The rooms are compact, but they were able to fit one baby cot although with that, plus the well thought-of single armchair and table by the window, there is hardly any space to move. I am totally fine with this as we spent most of the time outside. There is no coffee/ tea facilities but we personally do not miss that as it gives more room! Bathroom was clean but tight, with a half bath of which I thought is environmentally conscious apart from having to fit the narrow spaces. Some fixtures need attention. Amenities were cheap which we don't really expect any more than that. We appreciate the nice clean bathrobes ( to get to the pool area) and in-room disposable slippers.

We had a slow morning, enjoyed the good spread of breakfast buffet. This is not a 5 star hotel so if your expectation is that, than you will not get what you had in mind. It is like the dinner buffet - the quality matches the value of the meal ( u get what you pay for). The selection is very adequate, with egg stations, hard boiled eggs, hot items are just so-so: hotdogs and fried potatoes, different types of fresh breads, sweet pastries, cereals, juices, dried fruits, milk, seasonal fresh fruits, waffles and pancakes, jams, coffee, tea. We only stayed one night so cant review if they change the variety on different days. I actually like the quantity- it's just about enough for me for a hearty breakfast without too much that I'd stuff myself. The hotel is medium size so even at full capacity, i imagine you are not waiting in long lines for your eggs to be made, or walked a long way between the buffet table to your seat. i have a feeling they accommodate small groups that come in mini vans rather than the big bus loads of tourists ( but i could be wrong).

They also offered what I thought a fantastic value lunch box fr your day trip - 2 types of sandwiches, yogurt, juice box, banana, cucumber, tomato, water for 4.75jd. If you eat in the restaurants inside Petra, you are talking about 10jd for lunch. I love the fact that they include all the service charges and taxes in all their prices - so I don't get surprises and having to recalculate when I settle the bills.

The pool opens at 10am but the hotel was so obliging and opened it an hour earlier for us to indulge. We wanted to try Turkish bath there - only 13 jd( I hope it will stay this price till I revisit !) but it is not opened till 3.30pm. The Turkish bath, pool and jacuzzi are all in the same area, decorated with nice stucco and landscaping, in a separate building than the main. The pool was heated, just warm not hot, so it is refreshing after a few laps. Swim first than dip in the jacuzzi not the other way round otherwise you'll find the pool very cold!
There are showers attached to the turkish bath but they are unisex.

We only did little petra, 20min drive from the hotel. Worth a couple hours of exploring, and great place for kids to scramble around. Good if you arrive petra mid day and have a few hours to kill. Bring a picnic, nice views and easy climbs. My 3 yr old son and 72 yr old mother was able to do it.

On our way back the hotel, one of our vehicles had a flat tire so the gang hang out at the hotel lobby while waiting for the tire change. We were nicely received again. Never did I feel I was unwelcomed but instead, every staff member greeted us and the kids and one guy - Shaaban, went out of his way to help me find a charger and outlet for my iPhone, and even offered a laptop for me to work on while it was being charged.

The staff in this hotel have obviously been well trained to handle customer requests and all done and presented with top notch attitude. And, seemingly, judging from the reviews across board, this is a consistent standard. They made me feel like nothing was too much for them to assist me with, a fine point that even some well appointed hotels lacks. Even delivery staff, and some whom I bumped into in the kitchen and at the garage, who do not normally interface with guests, all presented well manners and basic greetings which is applaudable for the staff trainer. Most other places have staff who performed their own duties but hesitate when put in a spot to go beyond their perimeter of responsibilities. This is what i feel earned 'service excellence' and repeated customers.

A very big thank you to khalid, the manager who took my reservations over the phone and email, and personally greeted us as we arrived. He was very accommodating and made every effort for my party to be comfortable. Morning duty manager Ali was also very nice, and his son, Derar, who was helpful, always with a smile, with my stuff in the kitchen in the morning. Thumbs up to the lady supervisor and her housekeeping staff.

The garden terrace was a good little outdoor area for little kids to run around a bit, with a bench to sit down. Although a playground with a swing would have been perfect. Downtown shops are a stone throw walk, including a pharmacy. The bakery on their map has fresh breads and yummy pastries and cookies, with regular prices, even for tourists. Don't buy your water from the shop near to the pharmacy just outside the hotel. They'd rip you off. 6 x 1.5 liters bottles of water cost 2.5 jd in Petra. They will ask for twice as much. Get your water downtown or buy with informed knowledge.

Free shuttle bus for a few mins ride to Petra entrance if you don't have your own transport.

Some of us are going back in a few weeks with more friends! Definitely highly recommended!

Room Tip: I love my rooms 106, 108, 110 - views of wadi mousa but facing mosque. It's conveniently only on...
