Little Petra Bedouin Camp
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Little Petra Bedouin Camp is a beautiful location. Staff, food and options for entertainment are great! Certainly worth a visit, even if it's just for a night out enjoying local food and drinking tea in the Bedouin tents.

Room Tip: Honeymooner? The camp has a private cave for you!

Seems already to long ago but my boyfriend and I were so glad to stay here, Anas and his friends are very helpful and can tell you al lot about the environment and Jordan, delicious food and a breath taking place during the night. Stayed for two nights and slept one under the stars next to the fire with the pups:) If you're considering going to petra, this is your place to stay!

Spent two brilliant evenings at the camp. Fantastic food, hospitality and conversation with the staff at the camp. The new manager who has taken over in the last few months was more than willing to help us with anything we needed and gave us insight into local life.

While we didn't stay the night, we looked at the Cave Room and tents. We are planning a return visit and will definitely be booking with them.

The lighting in the camp at night is stunning and the camp is surrounded by natural rock formations.

Its a must 'stay'!!!!

Room Tip: We were shown the Cave Room where you can sleep in a huge double bed and have your own Bedouin tent...

although we stayed overnight in Wadi Musa we were invited and taken to the camp to have a look and a drink. The place is very nicely done,we didn't see the actual sleeping tents, but the impression under the starry sky was great. If you don't mind simple sanitary and go for sleeping near nature and under the stars, take your time and go to this camp. From the siq al barid it's possible to hike into Petra (at least it was 20 years ago!), so a very original approach to the great sites there. I will some day be back here, inshallah.

So we booked on booking.com and the map had Little Petra Bedouin Camp in the middle of a big white space near no roads.. We guessed that we needed to take a side road thru an agricultural installment for "artemesin" trees.. and we were right. Head towards "Little Petra" itself and then take the road toward Petra. It is the 2nd or 3rd camp on the left. Beautifully lit up at night. Dinners are basic but lovely. And the mint tea is delicious. Breakfast is filling.

The only reason this gets an average rather than very good is that the women's bathroom and shower was not cleaned at all during our stay. Just a few improvements there would make a WORLD of difference.

I was a little nervous at staying in a cave but it was the most amazing experience. It had proper beds and a lovely atmosphere. We arrived late after a stressful taxi journey from the airport and it was dark but the mountains lit up immediately made us feel relaxed and we could tell it was a special place. We stayed in the cave and enjoyed drinks brought to our terrace overlooking the camp. We shared some wine with the owner of the camp and stayd up til late chatting with him. We weren't planning to stay 2 nights but he invited us to a Jordanian wedding the next night at the camp so, coupled with the fact that we didn't want to leave, we stayed on another night. The wedding was very nice and we ate some of the food, first time I had eaten camel! All in all a wonderful experience.

Negatives
The bathroom was not at all pleasant, especially after the wedding and this is in urgent need of update to make it a less of a camping experience.

No pool or fitness centre which is fine as wasn't there for that.

Room Tip: Go for the cave as it is much cooler, there is only one cave or tents to choose from

when the owner invited us to his bedouin camp for tea, we had already checked into a hostel and wasn't not planning on staying at petra for two nights, but we were amazed by the camp and cancelled our trip to amman so that we can enjoy a night there. It was absolutely beautiful. He walked us into a valley, slightly dark, surrounded by mountains, and said "want to see magic?" and lit up the caves one by one. It reminds me of the lights in Tangled. We sat and chatted around the fire all night, and it was the most pleasant and relaxing time after a day of walking in the desert. We talked until he turned off the light, and I saw the most amazing night sky in my life. The tea, the barbeque, the view, the people...they add up to be a very unforgettable experience. I would totally go back and stay a week!

Room Tip: sleep under the stars!
