“Fantastic! (hard to find from a northern approach)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

So we booked on booking.com and the map had Little Petra Bedouin Camp in the middle of a big white space near no roads.. We guessed that we needed to take a side road thru an agricultural installment for "artemesin" trees.. and we were right. Head towards "Little Petra" itself and then take the road toward Petra. It is the 2nd or 3rd camp on the left. Beautifully lit up at night. Dinners are basic but lovely. And the mint tea is delicious. Breakfast is filling.

The only reason this gets an average rather than very good is that the women's bathroom and shower was not cleaned at all during our stay. Just a few improvements there would make a WORLD of difference.

I was a little nervous at staying in a cave but it was the most amazing experience. It had proper beds and a lovely atmosphere. We arrived late after a stressful taxi journey from the airport and it was dark but the mountains lit up immediately made us feel relaxed and we could tell it was a special place. We stayed in the cave and enjoyed drinks brought to our terrace overlooking the camp. We shared some wine with the owner of the camp and stayd up til late chatting with him. We weren't planning to stay 2 nights but he invited us to a Jordanian wedding the next night at the camp so, coupled with the fact that we didn't want to leave, we stayed on another night. The wedding was very nice and we ate some of the food, first time I had eaten camel! All in all a wonderful experience.

Negatives
The bathroom was not at all pleasant, especially after the wedding and this is in urgent need of update to make it a less of a camping experience.

No pool or fitness centre which is fine as wasn't there for that.

Room Tip: Go for the cave as it is much cooler, there is only one cave or tents to choose from

when the owner invited us to his bedouin camp for tea, we had already checked into a hostel and wasn't not planning on staying at petra for two nights, but we were amazed by the camp and cancelled our trip to amman so that we can enjoy a night there. It was absolutely beautiful. He walked us into a valley, slightly dark, surrounded by mountains, and said "want to see magic?" and lit up the caves one by one. It reminds me of the lights in Tangled. We sat and chatted around the fire all night, and it was the most pleasant and relaxing time after a day of walking in the desert. We talked until he turned off the light, and I saw the most amazing night sky in my life. The tea, the barbeque, the view, the people...they add up to be a very unforgettable experience. I would totally go back and stay a week!

Room Tip: sleep under the stars!

The atmosphere was absolutely out of this world. Prior to arrival I had wondered if the photos were of the area and not the camp, but the camp was exactly like the images and if anything even more beautiful. I wish we could have stayed more than one night. It was close to Petra (not walking close, but short cab ride close).

The food, both breakfast and dinner: plentiful, delicious and beautifully served.

Our tent, beds, and bedding were immaculate.

The owner and staff were very friendly and extremely hospitable.

The only slight con was the bathrooms, they need a little improvement but were certainly decent and clean. Not a big issue for me. I only mention them in case bathrooms are a major issue for you.

I would highly recommend staying here and hope that you take me with you, please. :)

What à place! Such wonderful service! One night at least is a must with all the lights! No alcohol is served and the showers are only during some hours. But who cares? :)

Stay May 2012
Positives- Most gorgeous view ever, little twinkling lights in caves, Nice smiles, Kind employees, tents clean, lock and key provided, Nice traditional breakfast (yogurt, bread, olives, veggies, tasty food, Cay (Yummy), sitting area under tent clean, alive with color, good conversation with staff. Atmosphere very welcoming, Dinner, Traditional, very good and hot..again Cay (Yummy).
Negatives- Bathroom toliet leaked, Shower- water was cold (not hot at all) and not much pressure, bathroom old and needed much repair, Windows in bathroom torn screen, When showing water leaked out into main sink area, slippery and could cause a fall, or accident. Bathroom connect to kitchen area with window open so even though you cant be seen by employees, all conversion are open (need more privacy in bathroom area. Spiders in corners of bathroom (small ones). Generator cut off close to late in evening, even though still peaceful, to dark to walk to tent..It was fixed within an hour..
Management said they are working toward updating bathrooms, had only been in business for about 4 months.
Overall- Staff so warm and inviting..Kind hearted ppl, enjoyed the few days there..would stay again if bathrooms were attended too. Food great, atomosphere heavenly, Remember- Its a bedouin camp..not a hotel..little rugged..but nice..They try very hard to please.. so enjoy..

Room Tip: Bring your bathing supplies...

my friend and i were actually headed to the "7 wonders bedouin camp" (i made reservations to this place bc of all of the amazing reviews online) but i made a mistake by driving into "little petra" instead because it was dark and we were tired...

it wasn't until after the tea around the bonfire, washing up, and settling into our tents that we found out that we were in the wrong camp...but we ended up staying for the night and enjoyed it very much.

the camp is surrounded by beautiful mountains that light up at night...that's the most amazing and eye-catching thing about the camp...it was lovely to sit around the bonfire to enjoy the beauty of the lights/blanket of stars while being served hot, sweetened tea immediately upon sitting down around the fire.

the tent that we slept in was clean and carpeted...beds were comfortable and the temp was just right (it was the month of april)...no bugs/mosquitoes so that was a plus! you can also request a lock/key for when you're away from your tent or to lock up over night...

bathrooms are communal..could have been cleaner but it was okay (didn't take a shower but the girl's br had 3 stalls, several sinks, and 1 shower).

breakfast was a simple meal: pita with cheese, jam, eggs, coffee, etc.

overall, the experience was a good one...the atmosphere of the place is beautiful in the day and night. the campsite also has a cave as a room + terrace...it cost a little more than the tents but it's a nice option to have if you want to sleep in a cave (i might have to try it one of these days!).

the host and other staff members were very friendly/helpful...the only thing that i didn't appreciate about my experience there was when our door from the outside of our tent was locked in the morning...not sure how it got locked but it was definitely an inconvenience to us when we got up to go to the bathroom...luckily the host was nearby to unlock the outdoor latch for us.

also, because you're sleeping in a tent, you hear everything outside of the tent, so i was up early in the morning because of the voices/noise outside...would not recommend this place to light sleepers.

despite that and the lil' incident mentioned above, i would recommend this place to my family and friends.
