Great hotel for a short stay. I would stay here again. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food in the cave bar was only ok but not bad. Visiting the site we started 11am and went directly to the monastery (don't visit without going there) and by the time we were coming back at 4:30 all the big tours were gone and we enjoyed the treasury with only a handful of people. All the guides say start early but in March its not hot so this is not so critical. You don't need a tour guide but the night tour is worth doing.
Petra is a lovely place that is not yet too commercialised and this makes it good. But I was disappointed that the shops were full of stuff made in china and India. We bought some bangles we could get in the two dollar shop at home but the young boy selling them was charming and we wanted to give him something for his efforts. It would be really nice to see more local products on sale in the shops and stalls. There is a huge opportunity for local youth to get together and make and sell their own handmade products. I would love to have something made in Jordan to take home to remember my stay.
