“Perfect for Petra”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

I was with a few of my friends in Petra in the dead heat of July for two nights. Having a hotel right at the gates of Petra was awesome. For the amount of walking you are going to do, you will not want to do anymore walking. The rooms aren't perfect but will absolutely do the job. Another cool thing about the hotel is that the bar at the hotel actually was a tomb, hence the name. It is also easy to walk into town to grab a bite to eat.

This hotel is the closest to the entrance to Petra which is fantastic after a whole day walking around. We arrived during a snow storm. The rooms were clean and well appointed with tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast was good except for the last morning when for no reason there was no buffet only continental breakfast. On the day we were "snowed in" at the hotel the staff did ring to see if we needed any food for lunch. The WiFi is very patchy and you have to pay for it. We did manage to get a refund for one day when it did not work. The general explanation was - maybe in an hour or due to the snow it wouldn't work.

Having read some advice about the buffet dinner at the Movenpick we decided to check it out. On the day we went we were too early for dinner so decided to go back the next night as the buffet was on every night. On arriving the next night the buffet was not on - no explanation except that it is on every night but not tonight (with a shrug of the shoulders).

Would stay here again for the location.

While I share the woes regarding wifi (only available in the small, rather uncomfortable lobby), I was very pleased with the hotel. The location is AMAZING but the best part was the staff. I have never had anyone show so much interest or express such concern for my well-being! And that was BEFORE my traveling companion fell ill (not the hotel's fault!).

Great location, nice but overheated bedrooms, but terrible food and unresponsive WiFi. This is an expensive hotel, and for the price, I would most certainly have expected to have functional telecommunications. On the day of our departure, there was a huge snowstorm, threatening to strand us in Wadi Musa. We had checked out of our two rooms, but were waiting in the lounge for a break in the weather so we could leave. As soon as we had checked out, we were refused WiFi access, and could not change a modest amount of US dollars to dinars on the grounds that we were not guests. This is a very poor service.

the rooms were clean and functional. location was key, right at the gate to Petra city. Food was also above average. but the entire stay I had no wifi. It only works in the lobby and then only if you get a manager who knows how to force it to work on your device. plus you have to pay for the wifi which was overpriced. Loved the cave bar and breakfast was good. I would come back.

Room Tip: If you have an ipad, its worth investing in an international data package in advance of your travel...

Petra Guest House has a great location right at the entrance to the Siq, which makes it perfect when you're back with weary legs after a long day as its the first hotel to start/finish the visit to Petra from. This is definitely an asset with young children as there's a fair bit of walking required to enjoy the sights of Petra. Petra truly deserves it place amongst the 7 wonders and we loved it so much that we ended up walking around for more than 8 hours and only when we were walking out of the Siq did we realise how weary our legs were.
Convenience stores & shops are situated within 5-10 mins walk from the hotel towards town. We avoided the shops right by the hotel & Siq entrance as they tended to ask more than the shops towards town for basic amenities i.e. water, food etc.
The hotel rooms are clean and well maintained and we found service to be prompt and courteous. The rooms are reasonably sized with comfortable beds. There is a reasonable charge of 1JD per hour to access WiFi.
The breakfast buffet was decent and offered much variety and food at the restaurant was good too.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would have no hesitation to stay again or recommend.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the bar as they tend to be noisier at night than the rooms overlooking the e...

Recently stayed at this property and was delighted with our room and service. We were given an upgrade to a terrace room which had great views, nicely decorated and a new fresh feel to it (room 331). Staff were very friendly and provided great service. However as the terraces are above the cave bar the music was very loud especially if you wanted to rise early for Petra. In saying that I would stay here again.
