As others have noted, there is absolutely no better location for seeing the amazing Petra archeological site. And since few guests will spend much time in the hotel, a review may seem rather unnecessary. Yet, this hotel barely lives up to its 4-star billing. There are rooms in the main building and a number of others in terraces built over the rocks. My terrace room was perfectly comfortable but with an unpleasant smell in the bathroom. Water was hot, but the pressure just barely enabled the shower to work.

The buffet breakfast was boringly average with service for coffee pretty slow. On the other hand, the staff in the Cave bar were wonderfully efficient and friendly. An excellent dinner was better than my experience of the restaurants on the main road, although made more expensive by the 26% service charge and taxes. Still well worth it, though. Terrace rooms have no internet connection. You have to sit in the lobby where the speed is achingly slow.

But then, there is that unbeatable location!

We chose this hotel as it is the closest one to the entrance of the Petra National Park. It’s location makes it perfect for spending 2-3 days exploring Petra. It’s apparently part of the Crowne Plaza chain, but they do not honour the Crowne Plaza rewards system.

Rooms were as you would expect from a Crown Plaza, clean and tidy with soft bedding.
The staff were a little curt and service at the Cave Bar was slow. Internet is expensive and also slow.

Breakfast was a buffet, but if you get there too late the croissants and bread are rock hard!

A great place to rest your head after scrambling through Petra. Would stay here again.

If not for a small glitch with regard to our reservations and payments for the room we would have given this hotel a very high rating. We are still awaiting their confirmation on a room.

In terms of location it is the very best. So much so that its bar is actually a nabatean cave converted into a bar. It is also good value for money in so far as the rooms are clean and it does not pretend to be anything more than a budget hotel.

After the long walk back from Petra we loved the fact that no sooner we got out of their we would be back in our hotel. It also has sufficient parking space and very kind guards who would help you out all the way.

As everyone remarks, you can't sleep any closer to the Petra park entrance, so this is a good choice for that alone. You avoid an uphill slog to the other hotels (after a whole day on your feet anyway), or waiting for a hotel shuttle. It's otherwise unremarkable. Plain, clean, quiet and entirely characterless 'international' rooms. Cheap minibar. Free wireless.. What more can you ask - you're only going to be sleeping there.

We didn't eat in the hotel, but probably should have, as the row of touristy eateries the other side of the Movenpick are all pretty dire (we stayed three nights...). The hotel breakfast was OK, but was inevitably swamped by the simultaneous arrival of groups presumably aiming for that 10am morning light on the Treasury.

After a few days of travelling through Jordan, Petra Guest House was a welcoming oasis. Reasonably furnished rooms and clean amenities, it is perfectly located within the UNESCO Heritage site (the bar is actually a Nabatean tomb, which was a bit macabre). The food is reasonable by international standards and excellent by Jordanian standards.

If you are looking for a decent hotel just few seconds walking by Petra Park gate, this is the place. Although is an old hotel, the rooms are very well conserved and you can have a pleasant night of sleeping before/after a long walking in the park.

The cave bar in the entrance is also amazing and can anticipate the atmosphere of Petra. It is a very nice place for the evening.

But the location is really the great advantage of the place. You can find the ticket booth just 10 steps from the hotel reception and the park entrance less than 50 meters.

The hotel is located immediately next to the ticket office and entrance to the Petra site. This is important if you intend making an early start on your long day of exploration. We stayed in a bungalow chalet room adjacent to the main building. Both the bedroom and bathroom were large and very comfortable providing a quiet and comfortable nights sleep. The only criticism was that there was no hot water, it was barely warm and even a request to reception staff made no difference. On the face of it this seems to be a minor point but after a hot and sticky day exploring Petra what we really needed was a good hot shower! The breakfast selection was far better than other 4 star hotels in Jordan.

Room Tip: Avoid the main hotel building and go for a bungalow chalet room.
