“Beautiful view of the Treasury”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

This is a very good way to see the Treasury "in a different light." The walk is quite dark so if your night eyesight isn't great, bring a small flashlight. There is a short talk but locals and some music. Unfortunately, there were some visitors who were talking through it all - a good way to avoid the talkers is to move to the tables that are on the left side. Also more comfortable than sitting on the ground.

“Lots of hype, very little substance”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

You pay 12 JD to walk down through the siq at night, which is lit by candles. You arrive at the treasury. Some guy plays Jordanian string instrument for 5 minutes, the same exact tune for 5 minutes, interspersed with throat hacking (singing). Next guy comes up and plays a diddle on the flute for 5 minutes. Then a 3rd guy comes up and starts talking and you think "finally, the show is starting". But all he does is talk about what the 2 previous people were playing. And after his explanation is done that is the end of the show. That is the entire Petra by Nights. It is not worth the money.

If you really want to do it, make sure you do it on your first day of arrival, before you see Petra during the day. If you come back here after viewing Petra at day, it is extremely anticlimatic.

“Petra by night.”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

Petra by night, even though it is a long walk in and you don't spend a lot of time there, it is definitely a must do whilst in Petra. My mistake is I had spent all day wandering around Petra from the Treasury to the Monastery and back, I then decided to go to Petra by night on the same day. Its probably a good idea to do the two visits on separate days. Just make sure you do it.

“Different sight by Night”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Having done Petra by day I was looking forward to the night show. I would recommend getting to the front of the crowd and getting to the Treasury building before the main crowd arrives. Considering the whole Siq is lit by candles you cannot fail to be impressed. I was unfortunate to be sitting with a person that was using a phone light/flash that caused some distress to those of us that just wanted to enjoy the music. It was however brought under control by the Master of ceremonies by speaking directly to the user. Some people should not bother if it is only about a picture on a phone! It is not cheap but it is worth it.

“Over sold”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

The walk is light by sparse candlearias over very rocky terrain. I twisted an ankle coming back, when many candelarias were burned out. You sat on the ground and listened to music from the history of the area. If we hadn't had a guide, it might have been more intriguing, but it was cold and uncomfortable. bring a flashlight if you go.
