“Not Worth It”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

We were phenomenally disappointed by the meal and options provided. The food was cold - clearly cooked earlier and then presented to us - and the flavours were poor in comparison to other food we've enjoyed in Jordan (weakly seasoned shawarma and hoummus, undercooked fries). The pricing was also higher than comparable restaurants in the area. Service was lackluster and inattentive at best, requiring some effort to attract the attention of waitstaff in order to get our bill. All in all, the one visit was more than enough disappointment.

“petra restuarent”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

This restaurant is just down the Alrashid Hotel and since we stayed in that hotel after petra trip we went down for dinner in this restaurant. Since we were vegetarians we asked for the options. We were pleasantly surprised they gave us good options and lovely food, not vey costly either. Thanks

“Owner lovely, food overpriced, but I would go back”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Located at city centre at roundabout (called the central circle). We were a large group which I understand is a bit more difficult so there was nearly an hour between first and last meals to come out. Mezes (entree) are 1.50 JD each (portions tiny), vegetarian dishes 5-7 JD (portions big) and meat dishes about 8 JD (portions big). Slightly overpriced for the food, but that may reflect Petra's tourist prices more than anything. Not much atmosphere, and dirty, but still had an excellent time. New owner (from last year) is extremely friendly, earnest and helpful.

“A lovely meal and amazingly friendly service”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

Al-Wadi restaurant is on a road intersection, next to two kebab / grill places and a supermarket. There is seating outside and inside.

The menu offers a fairly basic variety (three bedouin dishes, some pasta dishes, some omelettes, some grills), but what makes the place stand out is the enthusiastic and friendly owner (a young woman originally from the Netherlands, fluent in English, Dutch, German and perhaps even other languages) and the excellent service. Apparently, she has taken over the restaurant last year, so I would be inclined to disregard pre-2012 reviews.

The food was good, the prices were reasonable for Petra, and the portion size was solid. (I had a Bedouin-style minced lamb casserole, the name of which I sadly forgot)

While the menu does not offer hundreds of choices, it allows people to try competently prepared local dishes, or, if homesick rather than experimentally inclined, to settle for some globally popular dishes. I imagine this makes it ideal for families or groups.

“Charming backpacker's eatery”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

Al-Wadi definitively posesses a backpacker-esque charm. We were a bit distressed about the hygiene though, as the place was filthy to say the least. The female owner was rather stingy, as she tried to turn off the AC turned on by her employee, claiming it to be 'out of order', even though it worked perfectly (and was highly needed). She probably did it to save power...

The food, however, was delicious (I had gallayah chicken, my friend's kebap was ok). The price was decent, yet not cheap.
