Actually I was here twice: in March and October. The hotel is worth the money. It is small, but you feel like at home. Very polite and honest personnel. Free WiFi in the hotel. Free transportation to Petra park and back. They are able to arrange your transportation from Aqaba and back. So I DO recommend to book the taxi through this hotel for the people who travels from Aqaba border crossing from Israel side for 1-3 days. This will help you to avoid annoing taxi drivers on the border crossing.
Many thanks to Ibrahim!

Ibrahim is the host of this establishment and made my stay in Petra very memorable. I would recommend to anyone to stay at the Valley Stars, great service, good company and a very professionally run establishment.

The Valley Stars Inn was a great place to stay while seeing Petra. We are 3 girls backpacking and it was everything we could ask for. Friendly and helpful staff that answered all our questions. Clean rooms. Internet. Good price. And we felt safe there. It may be a bit of a walking distance to Petra but the staff are more than happy to drop you off and pick you up at the gates. It was easy to walk around the main town, a little bit of a hill to climb, but you dont need to be super fit to do it. Because we were backpacking, price was a big concern for us but for the price, it was perfect.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel after it was recommended by the Mariam Hotel in Madaba.

Ibrahim and his friend were very welcoming and we would spend hours each night chatting with them. The family shared their home grown grapes with us, let us borrow their laptop for the Internet, kept us topped up with unlimited mint tea, dropped us off and picked us up from Petra, and recommended good restaurants in Wadi Musa.

The rooms were clean and modern and very well priced.

Thoroughly recommended.

Upon arriving at the Valley Stars Inn, we were greeted by Ibrahim, a bright, young college student whose family runs the hotel. He was so helpful! His mother cooked us the best meal we had while in Jordan! Ibrahim helped show us the nightlife of Wadi Musa and overall we had an excellent stay. The rooms were very comfortable too!

After much research, we picked Valley Stars for our 3 night stay for Petra. We arrived around 4:30 pm via taxi from Madaba and the very nice woman at the front desk asked us to take a seat. What followed was some discussions between our taxi driver (who knew and was friends with the owner, Ibrahim) and the front desk woman (sorry I did not get her name) and it was apparent there was some issue. When I asked if there was a problem, I was told there was an inadvertent overbooking and that they were going to move us to the Petra Moon Hotel (which they claimed to be as nice or nicer than Valley Stars) for a lower price...and we could stay there 3 nights, or if we would rather only stay there one night, could come back to Valley Stars for the remaining 2 nights. First of all, be aware that we had a confirmed with visa reservation made 5 months earlier. Second, I had read reviews of Petra Moon and knew it was an older hotel and not in very good shape. However, since we seemed to have no choice but to move somewhere for at least one night and it was already early evening, we let them drive us down to Petra Moon. Petra Moon has only one thing going for it really, and that is location. It is right behind the Movenpick Hotel and just 2 minutes walk to the entrance to Petra. The hotel is in dire need of renovation. We had booked a double room for my husband and I at Valley Stars, and they only had twin beds available at Petra Moon. The carpet was dirty, the bed linen was very old, the bathroom had definitely seen better days, the door to the room had apparently been broken into at some point in time and there were holes you could see thru from the hallway into the room (which we covered with a jacket)...but we decided to put up with it for the night and told them we would move back the next day. The woman at the front desk was quite nice and offered us free dinner that night to help make up for the fact we had to move to another hotel. We did enjoy a lovely dinner with 2 other guests at the Valley Stars that night.

During dinner, I observed a larger group of 6 or more people arrive to check in. Humm...the overbooking story was apparently not true. So I went up to the front desk and asked why they had rooms for this group but told us they had no room for us. The explanation was that this group had booked thru booking.com and they did not want to break up the group and move some to another hotel...plus, if they did that, they would get a bad review at booking.com and may get banned from that booking website. So we got the short straw and got bumped out. Apparently a larger group was more important business than just the 2 of us. Well...we put up with the night at Petra Moon, packed up our bags and left them at Petra Moon's front desk for p/up by Valley Stars so we could spend the other 2 nights there. We enjoyed an amazing day at Petra, and Valley Stars was right on schedule for p/up outside the gate. They have a 3 pm and a 5 pm p/up schedule.

We had noticed that dinner was served somewhere between 7 and 7:30 pm in the evening so since we were going to Petra at Night and we needed to be at the gate by around 8:15, we decided to walk down the hill and found a lovely little restaurant for dinner. Valley Stars advised they provide dropoff for the Petra at Night tour plus a p/up after. The owner, Ibrahim, was heading out about 8 pm with a nice looking blonde guest that he was apparently taking out for the evening (we found out the next day he took her to the Cave Bar next to Petra's entrance), so he didn't give us a ride...but another staff member took us down. However, after asking several times, we were told that there was no p/up after the night tour and that we needed to catch a taxi back up. Oh well...

We took a taxi back to find out that one of the staff did come down to p/up us up after all. This is one example of miscommunication we ran into among the various people who worked at Valley Stars. It seemed that one hand did not know what the other hand was up to.

Our room was just fine at Valley Stars and breakfast was a reasonable variety of foods. The owner, Ibrahim, had told us that we needed to talk to him the day before we needed to arrange the 6:30 am bus to Wadi Rum, so we dutifully talked to him and he promised to make the call for seats on the bus after our last night there.

However, the final morning after breakfast, we sat in the reception area waiting for the 6:30 am bus (which comes to the front door of the hotel and picks up on its way out of town). 6:30 passes...one of the staff is waiting with us...it gets to be 6:40 and the staff guy with us decides to call the bus. After some conversation, he tells us to follow him and he grabs our 2 larger bags and we follow him out the door, across the highway and up the street to another hotel where the bus is sitting...ah, apparently Ibrahim didn't make us reservations after all, and if it wasn't for his good staff, we would have missed it entirely. We got the last 2 seats on the bus.

So, all in all, we found the staff to be helpful and caring, but the owner (Ibrahim) to be more concerned about other things rather than taking care of business. The hotel is a nice hotel for the price compared to others in Petra, but do be sure you have a printout of your email confirmation so you pay the price you were quoted and not some higher amount they try to charge on check-out...and don't trust Ibrahim to take care of business. And don't let this color the wonder of Petra...because it is truly an amazing place and we loved all the hiking and fun we had with the people inside this very special place.

Clean, friendly staff, feels like a home (some people may not like that), decent free breakfast and awesome free fast wireless internet. (Not very common feature in the middle east)

Far away from the action though.
