“Does the job”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

The hotel is a short stroll to the site entrance - handy if you want to make the dawn visit. The rooms are spacious but the bathroom very tiny and only closed to the rest of the room by a sort of iron curtain -not much privacy. The rooms are also strangely designed which in essence means you dont have many windows and sunlight (you need to go on the balcony). However it was clean and the beds are comfy. The hotel also has a nice 10 JD evening buffet - good when you've hiked all day! Staff was moderately welcoming and helpful, but then people are not as nice in Petra as they are everywhere else in Jordan.
In short : not a fall in love with hotel, but does the trick in touristy Petra.

Room Tip: We had a 3 persons room overlooking the mountains which was nice, surely you can ask.

We decided to stay a night in a hotel after having spent the night before in a Bedouin Camp, as we were not sure of the comfort we'd get in there.
This is your average hotel, everything is fine, it just needs that extra refurbishments, the doors don't open well, windows don't shut property and bath room is dated, though the room was large, and there is free WIFI in rooms as well, which is not often the case in other hotels.
It is very close, walking distance to the ticket booth for Petra.
The breakfast area on the top floor had good views.
Staff were friendly.
There is parking, but then you have to lug your luggage up a number of steps to reception area, or take the longer way via a ramp.

My husband & I stayed 2 nights in this hotel in Dec 2012. It's few mins walking distance from Petra. We were there during the offpeak period hence the hotel was pretty quiet. The hotel is a bit old but everything worked fine and both the room & toilet was clean. The staffs on the other hand were great! They were very warm and helpful, always with smiling faces. The manager took the time to chat with us and get our feedback on the hotel. She even offered to drove us to town to buy shoes as my boots broke but we declined. Dinner was delicious. Since there was not many people staying at that time, we get to choose when we want to have dinner and whether we want fish or chicken etc. They have nice salads. Breakfast was pretty simple. However, the hotel is away from town and shops. There are probably about less than 10 shops around the hotel area. Some of it were restaurants. souvenir shops and 1 provision shop selling snacks, toiletries etc.

Nice and friendly staff. Good location (only 300 m from Petra entrance gate). Good view from balcony. rooms are old, need better maintenance, especially the bath room. Overall is good value for money.

Very nice hotel perched on a steep hill above Petra. Nice quiet neighbourhood, although the Adhan or Azaan from the adjacent Mosque can be heard at the appropriate times. The room was nice and warm and comfortable. Television in Turkey is via sattelite. There are hundreds of channels, but only one or two with an english soundtrack, so take a book or your iPad along as there is free Wi-Fi.

We stayed in Candles Hotel in Petra for 3 nights. The location is very good, not more than 3 minutes to the entrance of Petra. On the way back there is a short climb up a steep hill. The view from the terrace and the rooms is great, it goes right to the hills of Petra.
The hotel itself is worn down and rather shabby (chipped bathtub, threadbare carpet, overall appearance, dirty windows etc. etc.). Not very comfortable. The "hotel shop" must have been used last by Lawrance of Arabia.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast did not deserve the title.
Our room was very spacious, our bathroom had a small window for ventilation. Air con in good working order (in fact, there were 2 air cons, for what reasons ever). Most of the switches in the room had no function at all and must have belonged to long removed items. Our friends' room was very, very small and the bathroom had no window.
Room lights cant be turned on and off when lying in bed. Bedside lamps could not be turned on one by one, only together, which is rather trying when one person wants to go to sleep and the other wants to read in bed.
The room cleaners' job description clearly stated that the had to clean the room very thoroughly, for they put away everything not glued to the floor and tables. We had to search for everything when coming back from our trips (alarm clock and and stuff from the bedside table hid in several shelves, books and sun screen for some reason on the safe, etc....).

We stayed here two nights. The Lobby and reception area are a bit tired, so I wasn't expecting too much from the room, but was pleasantly surprised. The room was very clean, brilliant white cotton duvet and sheets, the decor was dated, but this is a poor country, everything worked and it was quiet. The hotel is situated right at the gate of Petra, and within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. It is up a very steep hill, but all of Petra is hilly.

We only had breakfast, which was a buffet, and there was plenty of it. The restaurant was run by a lovely Filipina lady, who spoke good english, and was happily filling up babies bottles, and making up sandwiches for backpackers to eat later!

The receptionsist was very helpful, and all in all the hotel was far better than first impressions would have suggested. ,
