Excellent Apartments just 5mins walking distance from the gondola lift. Appts are clean and tidy, and fairly equipped, though need some refreshment...
Definitely great value for money and would definitely recommend!!!

Just back from Bansko, Christmas week traveling with Balkan. Eagles Nest, Good value for money as a self catering holiday, an option I recommend for families as, unless your children eat a solid diet of Pizza, the food on offer at most hotels and restaurants will not suit most people’s tastes.
Accomodation - value accomodation, large, but a bit abused by some former residents who smoke....please note...if they say this is a none smoking appartment...IT is NOT! But as far as budget goes, value for moeny 4/5 for very large self catering appartment. Wifi poor, TV very poor if working so take dvd's.
Excellent value for money, for kids learning to ski or even adults learning to board or ski, although I would not recommend this resort for seasoned skiers or boarders as it will just not hit the spot. Our boarding instructor Emile from Ulen was fantastic and his English was very good. Lift passes good value for money and we never had more than a 10 min wait in line for any of the lifts, however we appear to be very lucky with this as any time after Christmas the wait goes up to 45min in peak season.
Biggest disappointment of the holiday had to be flight. Cramped, old plane, abrupt staff, rude staff....on the return flight most of us who bought a sandwich bit in to find it was solid as a lump of ice. No exchange allowed, you can have plain noodles or money back nothing else, not even a cupa soup. On a three hours journey, starving this was a big blow to the fact I was so hungry I could have eaten my arm. To add insult to injury I then heard the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard, "we do not accept Scottish notes due to the DIFFERENCE IN EXCHANGE RATE!!!!!!" insult our money but not our intelligence please.
WARNING – Kid Crèche – for 4 to 7 year olds – unless your child likes to site in a room staring at a TV all day with exception of 1 hours time outside on the snow….DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILD IN THE CRECHE. FURTHER WARNING – if you pay for it which you will have to in advance you will not get your money back if you arrive to find service is not what you are told it is. Visit the crèche first to see if it is suitable for your kids. I only say age 3 to 4 or those who like being inside all day will be happy. You have to book this service in Bansko as you will find you cannot book it direct through Balkan which means paying for it at the bottom gondola and getting to the top to find that the junior ski school is little more than a babysitting service with little for young kids to do out in the snow (sorry one hour of snow play). ADVICE - Get some lessons for your kids before you go so they know the basics then find a Ski school that will take them 2 hours in the morning and two in the afternoon. We did not travel over 12 hours to see my kids locked up in a room so we lost our money on the crèche as none refundable and had to pay extra for them to go to a proper ski class which they loved. CHECK OUT CRECHE before booking it may not suit your child. Staff are lovely but two women in one big room cannot entertain that many children and it seemed so cruel to keep them inside away from the snow. We did not book our instruction through Balkan so that we could take our first day to find our way around Bansko, which again I recommend. You will find cheaper instruction prices online and for the most they all use Ulen as they are the main ski school, so you can find a broker that will suit your family’s needs in a more flexible manor than the Balkan package. But I do recommend booking ski passes through Balkan as this will save you time as it will be ready for you when you arrive, allowing you to get straight up the mountain first day to see what is what.
All in all Balkan Holidays – Bansko - 3.5 stars out of 5. Mostly the low score on the Air travel. Value for money 4.5/ 5. Bansko family friendly 4.5 / 5 everyone had time for the kids everywhere we went.

Room Tip: Get a corner appartment with balcony. This hotel is only 5 mins walk from gondola and all the restau...

Stayed here for a skiing holiday in Feb/March 2012 and had a great time! The apartment was kept very clean with a cleaner coming daily. Myself and my boyfriend had a 1 bed apartment which was sufficient enough for us and other friends of ours had the same great experience. The one disappointment was the facilities in the apart-hotel. The jacuzzi was not working (which would have been nice for the aching legs!!) the gym was not very well equipped and the breakfast was very very poor but luckily we did not pre-pay for it for the duration of our stay as we did not have it included in our package.

I have been staying in this hotel every year since it opened, and have been going back for the following reasons:

Central location - It is close enough to the Gondola that you don't need to use the free shuttle bus provided by the hotel. There is a reasonably priced supermarket across the road, and a bar/restaurant just across the road. Unlike hotels slightly closer to the gondola, it is close enough to the bars and restaurants of the old town that you can find some interesting and well priced menus.

Facilities - All the rooms I have stayed in have a number of balconies, therefore there is no problem keeping your beers cold! (Don't worry, all rooms I have stayed in have a fully equiped kitchen), there is always enough room to store skis and clothes etc so you don't end up cramped. The hotel also has a hot tub, steam room and sauna which is perfect after a days skiing and a few beers on the walk back (if you let the receptionist know roughly what time you will be back from skiing, everything will be set up for you),

Price - Even during high season, we pay between 4 of us for a fortnight what you'd spend individually doing a week in the Alps.

This hotel is perfect. Close to The Gondola, Restaurants, Pubs, Shops... What more can you want. Peace and quiet at night? Yes!! As this hotel is just of the main strip you will get lots of peace an quiet!

The apartments were fantastic, we booked a 2 bedroom apartment and it was fantastic. 1 room had a double bed and the other had 2 singles. The room has everything you need for a weeks stay.

Our first day there we was walking around and outside every bar, restaurant was a bloke telling you to go in and try the food. It was constantly every day and some of them looked dodgy but once we tried some they were fantastic and got on well with a few.

Our favourite Pub was the Lions Pub, They play all the English football and they do the best English breakfast.

The local Brew out here is nice aswell as cheap but brands like stella are roughly same price as home depending what bars you go to. Overall everything is cheap, and we allways tipped our waiters and we got a good service throught the holiday.

Unfortunatly i fell ill on the 3rd night and felt well again the night before we was due to fly back. This was my own fault as i drank the tap water which was a big mistake!!! If you dont want food coming out of your body from both ends at the same time and even if you are very thirsty do not drink the tap water!! BUY BOTTLED WATER :)

Although it has limited runs, this is reflected in the lift pass price, Bansko it is great for beginner and intermediate skiers and boarders but get to the gondola station for 8.15am to avoid queues which rapidly build up.

This is why Eagles Nest Apartments is so good, it is just a ten minute walk to the gondola, easy in board boots, and they also provide a free minibus which didnt often take long to arrive for our friends in ski boots.

The rooms were clean, (cleaned and towels changed daily) and kitchen well equiped for self catering cooking, but make sure you eat out and try the traditional bulgarian restaurants. There is a well priced traditional bulgarian restaurant on the corner at the top of the road from the apartment on the way to the gondola, and the Friendly bar on the way to the gondola is also really well priced, friendly and really good food and atmosphere.

We were four people staying in a 1 bedroom apartment, i would really recommend going for a 2 bedroom apartment if you can afford the little extra. the sofabed isn't that comfortable, although we managed to wiggle about and put the duvet under us and sheet on top (easily warm enough to do so in the apartment) but the toilet is off the bedroom so have to walk through the bedroom to get to it (feel a little awkward doing that at night).

Hot tub was nice (although it wasn't working for a couple of the days, they got it fixed quickly) and gym is well equipped if you feel you've got energy left after skiing all day!

Being only a short walk from the Gondola, this hotel is in a great location, taking 5-10 mins walk to get there. It is also close to a number of reasonable restaurants and bars (fantastic food at the Irish Bar opposite). There is a local shop selling essentials required, but is a little over priced, you're better off using the large market next to the ice rink for a large shop.

The overal service at Eagles Nest is good, with all the staff being very helpful and friendly. We had four people staying in a one bedroom apartment, with two people staying on a pull out sofa which was a little uncomfortable. If you can afford it i would recommend paying the extra for a two bedroom apartment. The apartment itself comes with everything you need to cook a meal and eat in (pans, fridge, cutlery, etc). We we're in room 101 which was a little noise being right next to reception, ask for a room on the 2nd floor.

We booked our Ski Hire via Bansko Blog, which worked out to be the most competitive, the equipment was supplied via Ski Mania who's shop was just by the gondola, which was very convenient as they stored your skis overnight, so no need to carry your kit back to the hotel each night.

A local bar worth a try is the Friendly Pub, which is on the way to the gondola, they have a live band and karaoke later in the night.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor will be quite
