“Perfect Location, Modern Hotel”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is a great place to stay for skiing holiday. It is only a ten minute walk to the gondola or you can just get the shuttle bus that the hotel provides throughout the day.

We stayed in an studio room which was lovely. Very modern and clean. Bed was comfy, bathroom was well sized. We had a lovely big corner shower, our friends had a shower / bath but was nice as well.

We went to the Spa one day, pool is lovely, steam room as well. I think the 14lev for the jacuzzi was a bit expensive so didn't bother with that. Myself and my friend had an anti stress massage which was lovely. Heard some horror stories on the gondola about peoples massages but ours was lovely!

Helpful staff, bar staff were friendly, bar stays open quite late as well.

Overall lovely stay and great value for money!

This Apart hotel is situated close to the main gondola for relatively easy access to the Ski slopes. The facilities are good with a Spa center, steam and saunas as well as a decent swimming pool. The resturant and bar areas are also good quality.
Recently addes Ice rink is a must for all ages.

Room Tip: Studio apartments are quite small, but bedroom apartments are quite spacious.

This hotel is a great place to stay, considering the fact that it offers free sauna, steam-room & a pool, all of it extremely luxurious! Also, the rooms are nicely furnished but it has a few blocks which are quite confusing to find, especially the first time. Also, you have to change many elevators and staircases because the reception and the SPA are too far away from the rooms - so if you choose to stay here, take a room in the A block, the 1st floor ;). All in all, it's a great hotel with a great (but expensive) lobby bar.

Room Tip: There are new hotels building behind the hotel so get a room with front view. AND REMEMBER - A-BLOCK...

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Staffs are friendly and always smile. Great service. Breakfast is good as well. If coming back to Banko, I will prefer to stay at this hotel again.
At Regnum Hotel & Spa Bansko everyone will find its appropriate place for rest, relaxation, variety or unique atmosphere for business meetings.

Do not expect grandeur or exclusivity of a 4* accommodation, this is clean unpretentious hotel for an week of ski with the family nothing more and nothing less. Wifi, pool, sauna, kids room everything is there on a average level, breakfast was OK, we had dinner couple of times it was OK, rooms are OK everything is OK. so if you have a good price deal do not hesitate its OK :)

Hotels in Bulgaria tend towards kitsch and basic so don't be too swayed by the star ratings. In fact the more stars the only slightly less kitsch. Regnum is a claimed 4 star but it doesn't quite have the luxury or services you would expect for such an accolade elsewhere. That said, here's a perfectly decent hotel to rest your head after a day's skiing or sightseeing.

Location wise, it is a little cut off at the end of a road just outside town but not far enough to put off an easy ten minute walk into; and you still get the view across the little river to the ski gondola and the pretty lights of town. It seems most rooms have a balcony so try grab one that faces the town rather than the rather drab unfinished - and looking likely to stay that way - concrete shell apartment block to the other side. Go too for the deluxe rooms with a bath as the basic apartments are a little claustrophobic and dreary.

The deluxe apartment was certainly large with a separate double bedroom - albeit with two single beds pushed together and no holding bar to keep them that way! - and large hallway and kitchen / lounge. Don't be too excited by the kitchen in this Apart- Hotel. Yes you get a fridge, a sink and a two ring hob, yes you get a kettle and some cups and plates and glasses and cutlery. No, you do not get a pot or a pan or a microwave or ANYTHING to cook in. Cup of tea and a take away - sorted: self catering - nope.

The staff are all extremely helpful and most speak good enough English, the ski shuttle is regular and reliable and there's a ski store room for your kit. The kids room was small but had an entertainers' schedule and the games room was typically soulless. The spa has a pool and hot rooms but again is fairly small and does get very very busy at the end of the afternoon when you are back and fancy a dip..

The few things that let the Regnum down so badly will to some be the fundamentals: food and atmosphere. It's such a shame that for such a large hotel the bar is such an afterthought, a tiny little soulless place between the reception and the restaurant, almost a corridor filler with a few chairs. Sure there are other areas to sit in the hotel but you really wouldn't choose to relax here for long or catch up with your party or family. Then to the food...

Breakfast does have a wide choice of buffet options. Most of it apart from basic cereals and cheeses which you can't ruin, is truly awful. The eggs, both scrambled and piles of fried, are hard and stodgy and manage to be tasteless and metallic at the same time. Come later breakfast hours it becomes a bun fight to reach the toaster or items as it seems most guests consider it impolite to queue or wait a turn. As for dinner in an overlit room, the Turkish buffet looked horrific and the a la carte was overcooked. Word of caution too on the wine, it's all Bulgarian and expensive; you can taste the headache, no joke.

The Regnum is OK and probably one of the better hotels in Bansko. But the food, as with all the food in Bansko wherever you go, is so far from gourmet that you will look forward to coming home. A real shame for such a pretty part of Europe.

Strengths:
- location, just a 5 minute walk from the cable car
- the spa facility
-free wi-fi BUT only in the lobby
-free parking, if it's not full

Weaknesses:
-the food is of a very poor quality and not diversified
-the servers should learn English
-very superficial house keeping service (must improve significantly)
-why do they charge the wi-fi in the room?
-the wardrobe has to be paid for at the swimming pool (aprox Eur 3);

The conclusion is that if this hotel did not have a spa facility it shoul have been ranked as a 3star hotel as the other services do not meet the standards of a 4 star hotel.
