I stayed at the Mura Hotel in the first week of March 2014. I booked a package deal through Crystal Ski, the price was great as i paid £645 for the flight, hotel, transfers, lift pass, lessons (which were ran by idiots and wouldn't recommend) and snowboard hire (which was a bad hire shop and had to go elsewhere). so thought great all sorted for what i thought was a decent price.
I arrived in Sofia about 8pm local time and had to endure another three hour transfer which wasn't actually that bad just chilled out on a comfy coach. I arrived at the hotel, and i was the only person to get off which i always think is a bad sign ha ha. But i took my bags into the reception, spoke to the receptionist. She wasn't very welcoming and the whole process of checking in only took a couple of minute which was good in a way but i would have preferred a more in depth intro to the place as i had to go back a lot and ask a lot of questions. Like times of the shuttle bus, where it picks you up from and where are the safes???. Maybe she was having a bad day though so i wouldn't hold it against them.
with regards to the actual room it was perfect for what i wanted. Key car entry, load of space, massive cupboards for all your stuff, fantastic bathroom (all tiled, nice units and shower with running hot water whenever you wanted it), the bed wasnt a double bed it was just two beds pushed together but it wasn't a issue for me, small balcony that had a great view of the old town and mountains. The room was at a perfect temperature and the cleaners did a excellent job of coming in everyday when you were out on the slopes to clean up after you.
The hotel facilities it self now. nice big reception area that had a load of comfy sofas and a log fire. nobody was ever in there so dint spend much time there.
Free Wi-fi at the hotel which was handy, was meant to just be in the reception but i could pick it up on the second floor.
One of the biggest selling point was the massive hot tub on the ground floor. it had a hot tub, massage room, sauna, shower and chill out area. that was brilliant to use after a hard day boarding, defo don't miss out on that!!.
The staff were helpful if you had any questions but just something was missing for me. just that extra customer service was needed. For example because of the cheap price there were a few groups of lads in the hotel on a stag do, they were ridiculous loud at silly o clock in the morning. i dint mind this because i know what its like being on a stag do but i dint complain to the manager which i maybe should have done. but i dint have the confidence in them doing anything about it.
I had a bed and breakfast deal, so thought i would want to fill up on food so i wouldn't be needing a lot up on the slopes. The food was very very basic, it was bread, ham, cheese, sausage, scrambled egg, fruit and cereal. It did the job but never tasted great, but i suppose you get what you pay for and am not a fussy person.
I would say the massive downside of the hotel is its location. you have to be prepared for walking a lot. it is about 20 minutes from the gondola and bars/restaurant area up badly bricked paths. In the morning you can get the shuttle bus up to the slopes from 8:30 and every half a hour from that. I wanted to be up there early so ended up walking it was nice to walk but when you taking you board etc with you, your tired by the time you get to the gondola ha ha. but as i say if you get the shuttle bus it is great and you can get it coming back as well. the main issue for me with walking was when you go out at night to get a meal and a beer. I dint mind walking up and getting wrapped up, but i know it would be a pain for some, like if i took a girl with me she would have hated the walk ha ha.
So to sum up I would say if your going to book this hotel, go with your eyes open. Don't expect great food or service, expect to have to walk and expect you maybe unlucky with some village idiots being put next to you. This hotel opitimises " You get what you pay for". If i was to go back i would book to stay at the hotel again if i found another cheap deal but i would try to find a better location hotel and go half board.
hope this has helped some people
