“Solo Stay in the Mura in March 2014”
Reviewed March 23, 2014

I stayed at the Mura Hotel in the first week of March 2014. I booked a package deal through Crystal Ski, the price was great as i paid £645 for the flight, hotel, transfers, lift pass, lessons (which were ran by idiots and wouldn't recommend) and snowboard hire (which was a bad hire shop and had to go elsewhere). so thought great all sorted for what i thought was a decent price.

I arrived in Sofia about 8pm local time and had to endure another three hour transfer which wasn't actually that bad just chilled out on a comfy coach. I arrived at the hotel, and i was the only person to get off which i always think is a bad sign ha ha. But i took my bags into the reception, spoke to the receptionist. She wasn't very welcoming and the whole process of checking in only took a couple of minute which was good in a way but i would have preferred a more in depth intro to the place as i had to go back a lot and ask a lot of questions. Like times of the shuttle bus, where it picks you up from and where are the safes???. Maybe she was having a bad day though so i wouldn't hold it against them.

with regards to the actual room it was perfect for what i wanted. Key car entry, load of space, massive cupboards for all your stuff, fantastic bathroom (all tiled, nice units and shower with running hot water whenever you wanted it), the bed wasnt a double bed it was just two beds pushed together but it wasn't a issue for me, small balcony that had a great view of the old town and mountains. The room was at a perfect temperature and the cleaners did a excellent job of coming in everyday when you were out on the slopes to clean up after you.

The hotel facilities it self now. nice big reception area that had a load of comfy sofas and a log fire. nobody was ever in there so dint spend much time there.

Free Wi-fi at the hotel which was handy, was meant to just be in the reception but i could pick it up on the second floor.

One of the biggest selling point was the massive hot tub on the ground floor. it had a hot tub, massage room, sauna, shower and chill out area. that was brilliant to use after a hard day boarding, defo don't miss out on that!!.

The staff were helpful if you had any questions but just something was missing for me. just that extra customer service was needed. For example because of the cheap price there were a few groups of lads in the hotel on a stag do, they were ridiculous loud at silly o clock in the morning. i dint mind this because i know what its like being on a stag do but i dint complain to the manager which i maybe should have done. but i dint have the confidence in them doing anything about it.

I had a bed and breakfast deal, so thought i would want to fill up on food so i wouldn't be needing a lot up on the slopes. The food was very very basic, it was bread, ham, cheese, sausage, scrambled egg, fruit and cereal. It did the job but never tasted great, but i suppose you get what you pay for and am not a fussy person.

I would say the massive downside of the hotel is its location. you have to be prepared for walking a lot. it is about 20 minutes from the gondola and bars/restaurant area up badly bricked paths. In the morning you can get the shuttle bus up to the slopes from 8:30 and every half a hour from that. I wanted to be up there early so ended up walking it was nice to walk but when you taking you board etc with you, your tired by the time you get to the gondola ha ha. but as i say if you get the shuttle bus it is great and you can get it coming back as well. the main issue for me with walking was when you go out at night to get a meal and a beer. I dint mind walking up and getting wrapped up, but i know it would be a pain for some, like if i took a girl with me she would have hated the walk ha ha.

So to sum up I would say if your going to book this hotel, go with your eyes open. Don't expect great food or service, expect to have to walk and expect you maybe unlucky with some village idiots being put next to you. This hotel opitimises " You get what you pay for". If i was to go back i would book to stay at the hotel again if i found another cheap deal but i would try to find a better location hotel and go half board.

hope this has helped some people

We stayed 2nd week in March.
Very helpful & pleasant staff, nice size rooms & cleaned every day with fresh towels. Great spa facilities included in the price and much needed after a day snowboarding!
Breakfast was not a great choice from an English persons point of view as it consisted of bread, cheese, meats, cold spaghetti, natural yoghurt and cereal (& a dodgy toaster that burns one side of the bread but doesn't touch the other side!) but def better than nothing.
Also a major negative was that the rooms & hotel in General we're always sooo hot!
Hotel is in a great location with a free shuttle bus to and from the gondola taking about 5 mins. Also a lovely pizza & pasta place next door and a supermarket couple of doors down.
Overall a great hotel and good value for money!

We stayed for a week on a ski vacation.
The room size was good enough, had a balcony, multichannel TV and heaters. The shower was clean.
The breakfast was with a decent variety.
The hotel has basic facilities of saunas and jacuzzi. Sometimes was overcrowded.
The single drawback is the location. It is a 10-minute walk from the touristic center and the gondola. However, they provide a free shuttle to/from the gondola. It is also close to the good restaurants of the town.
I would recommend the hotel for people who do not very spoiled.

Clean, pleasant and responsive staff, nice big rooms with balcony, great location near to the best restaurants in bansko (Irish hurp, lovna sreshta) 15 minutes walking from the gondola. The negatives are that its very hot everywhere inside and there is no minibar

Although only 3 stars, the hotel is well equipped and clean. The breakfast is good. The rooms are good sized, with a balcony.
The location is on the main river street, about 10-12min walk from the Cable cars, if you like the fresh morning air. If not - a free shuttle service is provided.
The spa is the best part probably, with 2 saunas, a jacuzzi, a chillout area and optional massage.

Right next to it is a big supermarket, an exchange and one of the best restaurants in Bansko.
The walking street (with all the taverns) is 5 min walk as well.

We had a great time!

We stayed here from 12/01/13 till 19/01/13 as part of a last minute package holiday with Balkan.
We arrived late at night and the lady on reception was both efficient and friendly, check in was very fast and we were soon in our room.
Our room was situated at the back of the hotel overlooking the old town and it was perfect for us with large tiled balcony, which doubled up as a fridge!
The room was very large and bed lovely and comfortable with extra duvets and pillows stored in the large wardrobes. There was plenty of storage in the room and the bathroom was modern and spacious and very well equipped.
Housekeeping staff were always on the go with fresh towels, toilet rolls, and bedding changes and the room was kept spotless by these hard-working ladies.
The room was lovely and warm and the shower had great pressure with a constant supply of hot water and soaps and shampoo were replenished daily.
The lobby bar was OK but there was only a limited range of drinks (mostly imported) so it was a wee bit pricey compared to other places which sold Bulgarian brands at a fraction of the cost, it also closed at 10pm so was no good if you had been out for the night and fancied a nightcap before bed. The large sofas were comfortable and the roaring fire made the place seem cosy and welcoming.
Breakfast was the standard fayre for Bulgarian hotels and it was no worse than any other hotel we have stayed in whilst holidaying in Bulgaria. It consisted of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, local cheeses, eggs scrambled and boiled, some type of sausage and cereals, pastries and fruit. There were baskets of bread and a toaster and a choice of fruit juices and coffee machine (the espresso was great!)
Whilst the hotel had free jacuzzi and sauna facilities I can't comment on these as we never found the time to use them.
For us the best part of the hotel was it's location, it is perfect for exploring the old town and there were some exceptional mehanas just within minutes walking distance.
I feel this hotel offered exceptional value for money and cannot find any faults regarding comfort and cleanliness.
