“Warm and spacious, bad shuttles”
Reviewed March 10, 2012

The room was spacious and had balkony with nice panorama. I liked the food (can tell only for the breakfast). The shuttles are minus - for the driver this time-table (every 30 minutes) doesn`t mean anything... They are 20 minutes from the hotel to the gondola station if you are walking... The hotel is 10 minutes from the center. I reccomend it!

A nice hotel with good sized rooms and a nice big balcony. The food in the hotel was pretty horrible and we never ate very many breakfasts.
The bus service up to the mountain started at 8.30 the lifts opened at 8.30 which would mean well over an hour wait. (we waited 3 hours one day). You really had to get up and walk to the gondola which was a bit of a pain.
Don't think i would ever go back to Bansko after the trip we had. Not the hotels fault but the gondola and the quality of the mountain.
The food in the old town was well priced and the beer was cheap but i went to snowboard, i would definitely rather spend the extra to go to a resort that understands that's what it's all about.

Hotel Services:
Mura is relatively old building, but boasts nice reception/lounge area with bar and open fire - essential for ski/boarding holidays, with lots of couches. One lift to 4 floors of rooms, all fairly basic, good sized & clean. There's a spa in the basement which was one of the highlights of our holiday - nice jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, we had a great sports massage on our last day from a lovely local fella - very professional and well worth the money.

Food:
The food in this hotel was inedible. Thankfully we only booked for B&B, but they shouldn't even bother advertising that. To start with the staff were incredibly rude, notably the women, one of which on our first morning there actually told off a guest very loudly for making a mess near the self serve coffee machine even though it was broken and overflowed itself! Another woman actively avoided a guest who merely came to ask for more cereal for his daughter, she saw him, turned and walked straight back into the kitchen for 10mins. There was frequently a shortage of coffee mugs, when we asked for more she shrugged and told us to use thin plastic cups because it would take too long to clean the used ones. The actual food itself was disgusting. Eggs were undercooked, meat (if you can call it that) was more like charcoal, and just when we thought bread might be a safe option to put through the toaster - they brought a big basket of sliced bread out which promptly toppled off on to the floor, spotted by one of the staff, who picked them up and walked straight into the kitchen with them. we were sat near the kitchen and could clearly see the bin by the door. the staff walked into the kitchen, and the bread that had been on the floor did NOT get put in the bin. We had previously mentioned the food to our reps from neilson, and they did have words, but as the bread incident happened on our last morning there, when the rep came to pick us up we had saved him a sample of the breakfast, and he went into the 'restaurant' and saw for himself. He then talked to the duty manager that was on and described the food served as "s**t". Every other british guests we spoke to had the same bad experiences with regards to food. I would not eat here ever again.

Location/Resort:
Hotel Mura is a relatively small hotel in Bansko that is about 10-15mins walk from the one and only gondola. As with all ski resorts, the further away you are, the further you are down a hill! they do offer a mini bus service to transport you there every 30 mins in the morning and of an afternoon. Resort was not the best and the one gondola really meant terrible ques in the morning of over an hour with many nationalities that dont know what a que is. It was so squashed one morning we saw a lady faint. However, slopes once there weren't too bad, quite a few closed while we were there because of the ski championship at the end of feb, mainly the black run and few decent reds, much to the frustration of my partner who is more advanced. It also ment the rest of the runs were alot busier, and given there are NO green/beginner runs - everyone from schools to olympic wannabies was crammed onto the blues and few reds left.

Summary:
Overall this could be a lovely hotel, but was disgraced by the food and restaurant staff, either book room only, or dont bother eating! There are plenty of other bargain meals out to be had around Bansko of much higher quality! The bar staff and reception I have to say were lovely, polite, helpful and friendly. Just a shame they were let down by their colleagues and restaurant.
