I really needed some R&R, so wanted to go somewhere that was not overcrowded with tourists and noise. Did I hit the jackpot!
This beautiful small inn was clean, comfortable, welcoming and had beautiful views.
The island is quite unspoiled, though the garbage the locals strew about the landscape and in the ditches is a pity.
Took a taxi-bus tour of the island, and saw many fascinating historical sites and many beautiful places.
There are wonderful, virtually empty beaches everywhere, forest walks and the KIDO centre where you can go for reef and wreck diving as well as to see the work they are doing with wildlife preservation and turtle tagging.
Further down the beach was a great place for wind surfing, sailing and snorkeling.
I managed to see a Drum - a local religious harvest celebration. It was wonderful, and the kids were a hoot, asking all sorts of questions about where I came from and what family I had.
Goats everywhere, and since I'm a goat freak, I loved that.
Rented a car - you have to get a temporary local driver's license first, which costs about $60. Cdn, - and went to beaches and small villages on my own.
Very safe, mostly friendly but not much variety in food. If you are looking for nightlife, this is not the place for you.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.More
