“Grand Lodge”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

PROS: stunning lodge and views, super clean, friendly staff, large rooms, wonderful balconies, ample parking, multiple entrances (easy to/from vehicle), quiet rooms.

CONS: large Jacuzzi tub in our room which we considered to be out of place and a bit of an eyesore for such a beautiful room. I wish it was in the bathroom. The restaurant food was pretty awful except for breakfast buffet and simple sandwiches. This is a problem since there are no local alternatives.

We went to Mount Magazine lodge in October 2012, for a family reunion and had a wonderful time. The setting is spectacular.

The good: The lodge is wonderful. This well appointed lodge has the best view of any hotel or lodge in the lower states. All the rooms face the cliff side of the mountain and produce fabulous views. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are quiet...

The bad: The food is terrible and the service in the bar/restaurant is severely lacking. Breakfast is really the only meal here worth eating. It is filling and overall good. Service was slow and they ever got the orders right. Most of the menu is prepared fried food. The buffet is small and again most of fried.

The staff is young and largely not professional servers. We went to the bar on a Saturday night in October to watch college football at 7:00pm and were told that they had already cut the staff. However, they tried to accommodate the resulting 7 full tables although service was slow and the food lacking. Please understand, the food is not why you come here. The views and hiking are spectacular....

Please figure out the food and service model in the restaurant. I love this place and will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a balcony

The view of the valley below the lodge is amazing. We weren't able to explore much because we were only there a day and have a young toddler, but we were content to just hang out and enjoy the surroundings outside and in.

We booked a cabin for two nights. It was very nice to be able to cook our own meals, so we have no reviews on the restaurant. However, everyone we talked to said the food was great. We brought our own pans in case they did not have what we needed, but did not use them. There really is everything you would need from pans to mixers in the cabins. I think the kitchen was very well supplied. The views are wonderful from cabin 4. We booked 11 months in advance and the only cabin left was the pet friendly cabin 4. We are not pet owners and were worried about a pet friendly room, but the cabin was very clean and had no sign of pets except scratches on the doors. An earlier review mentioned some generator noise from the lodge that could be heard at this cabin, but we didn't notice it at all. The hot tub on the deck was wonderful. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub at the end of the day. We did walk to the pool one afternoon and it was very nice. The hiking trail to the highest point in Arkansas was a nice easy trail and we enjoyed the East Benefield loop trail too. We took a drive around the area and found so many great opportunites for pictures. The scenery is beautiful at this park.

Room Tip: Cabin 4 is closest to the lobby and restaurant. Cabin 5 is closest to the pool.

This lodge is amazing. Large public areas with quality furnishings, large rooms, again with quality furnishings. Spotless bathroom with separate sink area.
A great dining room with a nice variety of menus. Priced reasonably, especially since this is really the only place to eat without driving 30 minutes or more.
The views from each room are amazing. Many of the rooms have balconies, but even without a balcony you get a wonderful view.
There is also an indoor pool, and hot tub here.
We will come back. Book plenty in advance. This place stays very busy.

Room Tip: Since this place is away from any towns, all rooms will be quiet. You're able to see the stars...

My spouse and I booked last minute for a Sunday night. We had the deluxe king room, room 109. The room was only $157 dollars for that specific night! When we pulled in to the lodge it took our breath away! The outside and the inside of the lodge was nothing short of spectacular. There was a roaring fire in the lobby with a great view of the setting sun. Check in was fast and the people were friendly. When we got to our room we were blown away with the size and view! The balcony was great, there was a jacuzzi tub was large enough for two, there was a ceiling fan, the room was huge with a fridge. The bed was soft, the shower great, and there was lots of storage cabinets and drawers. We will certainly return back to the lodge again.
In the morning the entire valley was filled with the clouds. It was awesome to watch the clouds rise up and dissapear over the lodge! The pool was huge with a slide and handicap lift. There were two hot tubs in the pool area too! We had the breakfast buffet in the lodge and it was good too. We cant wait to get back!

Room Tip: Would certainly spring for a room with a balcony. The view is breath-taking!

The Lodge was as beautiful as the view from our balcony. Some rooms on the 3rd floor have vaulted ceilings and this made our room seem even larger. There are a few rooms at the Lodge that have part of the view blocked by the pool roof, so make sure you make note of this when making a reservation. All rooms have a view.
You can only get a King bed if you have the spa tub in the room, so we took the Queen Deluxe. It would have been nice to have a king bed but we didn't want a very large bath tub in our room.
We enjoyed the food served at the Lodge and the prices were reasonable. The "Mountain Burger" was outstanding. The breakfast buffet at $7.95, we thought, was a great bargain.
We were there with friends for a "bike weekend" and everyone at the Lodge was welcoming and readily pointed out the best routes and the best BBQ place.
We are planning to return to enjoy the spring time weather in Arkansas.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view but some of the 3rd floor rooms have vaulted ceilings. All types of rooms are...
