Description: Tucked away in Bishops Waltham, the Anvil is a tranquil, Tudor retreat. From a cup of tea to a complete meal, you will enjoy a unique and jovial atmosphere at this characterful eatery. Proprietor Fred adds a touch of personality which is always a nice thing. For a daytime eatery, the menu is superb - only improved by the fact that virtually ALL THE DISHES ARE GLUTEN FREE. For those with coeliac disease and other wheat aversions, The Anvil is a welcome break from the massive restrictions of ordinary eating out. As one of the very few gluten free eateries in Hampshire, it is worth the visit alone just to try Fred`s World Famous Bread & Butter Pudding.Dog friendly and easily accessible with a beautiful secluded rear courtyard with free one hour parking, customers are offered a unique blend of specialist foods and fine wines, all within the cheeriest of atmospheres. Wining and dining at The Anvil is more than eating and drinking - its an experience!!

“Lovely”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

We have passed this place many times so thought we'd give it ago today.
It's a lovely little place with a courtyard garden.
We had lasagne with salad and steak and kidney pie with mash and veg. Fred's bread and butter pudding and raspberry roulade. Both courses were delicious.
The girls working there were polite, happy and helpful.
Will certainly be going in again.

“Delicious but dated”
Reviewed July 26, 2014

I love going to 'The Anvil' it has a very relaxed atmosphere, and the quality of the food is very good, the service is very good too.

I hate to say it, but I feel the menu is quite dated and I don't feel it's that great in terms of value for money. For example, their Salmon Baguette had a rather large salad with it and lots of cream cheese but it was light on the salmon and for the price I felt it wasn't that good. Their teas and soft drinks are great, and they have a wonderful selection of cakes.

Came across the anvil tearoom by chance. Great atmosphere, friendly and cheerful people, unique decor and the best breakfasts my wife and I have ever had.
Can not wait to go back.
