“Fab time at The Queens Arms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2010

We stopped in Room 4 for 4 nights in late September. This really is one of the best pubs we have stopped in over the last 15 years.

Peaceful location. Really great friendly staff. The food at night is brilliant. Lots of malts for whisky lovers. A few local ciders. Decent lagers on draught and some local ales. They have some Somerset Cider brandy - try the Shipwreck Brandy - tastes like whisky! Pork pies on the bar with mustard. Chips to die for. Breakfast in the morning is very informal and served at a big table and everyone sits together. Sounds awful .. trust me it isnt.

Yes a lack of tea making facilities in the room is a bit of a bore (but not end of the world). Room 4 should have a easy chair in it. It was tidy and clean.

However, the staff and Gordon/Jeanette's enthusiasm are the most impressive part of the whole show. We can definately reccommend.

We stayed for two nights in late August. Although a few problems getting my room booked the experience from arrival onwards was faultless. The team of very cool young staff are unfailingly polite and, more than that, they are genuinely hospitable - they want you to be comfortable and relax. We had room 3 which looks out over the front and down the village to the church. Very peaceful although a bit of noise from the bar immediatley below into the late evening but to be expected and not enough to keep us awake. The cooked breakfast defeated me both mornings, beautifully cooked using fresh local produce and heaps of it! Evening food was great with choice being given to eating in the bar or the restaurant-ish room and no Stalin-esque attitutes to dining times (we were 40 mins late on night 2) which is very refreshing. All in all I would certainly recommend it, £300 or so for two nights with breakfast, dinner and quite a few drinks seems very good value to me and there were Tootie Frootie sweets left in the room for us on day 2 - what could be better!!

Great Pub.
Stayed for a weekend and location is fantastic if you want to get away from it all and enjoy some great walking followed by chilling in front of a log fire with a great choice of ales, whisky and food delivered by friendly and efficient staff. Stayed in room 2 which was great choice with great views and a massive bath for 2 to soak those tired muscles.
We will return.
Also, Camelot pub in South Cadbury is a fine hostel to rest and take in good food and ale during a good walk.

No small thing to give a place five stars for every category, but I couldn't fault the Queens Arms. Beautiful rooms (we arrived early and sneaked a look around), friendly obliging service and comfortable beds. Given the level of comfort, I don't consider it particularly expensive either. We have stayed in another celebrated Somerset inn at Tarr Farm; it is much dearer, and the rooms are pleasant but nothing to write home about.

Not included in the room rate, and therefore not strictly part of the hotel review, the food and drink are outstanding. The pub has a wonderfully authentic feel (no piped music) and the terrace is just the job for a few ciders on a spring afternoon. Cracking.

Hello - we stayed with you this weekend and have a few comments about room 4. Generally its a bit gloomy and unwelcoming, particularly when all heating off when arriving on a cold afternoon. The carpet needs a good clean and there was rubbish under the bed from a previous occupant. The sink is cracked, as are some bath tiles. The loo is so close to the bath that you can't get your knees in! A kettle and tea making kit for late night/early morning would have been good too.I'm sorry to whinge but we were really disappointed especially given the good reviews you seem to have. I must say though that teh young staff you have are great and were very helpful Overall we thought it just wasn't worth the money.( NB No response received to this e-mail!)

Stayed here with a bridal party a friday to sunday and have to say that i was amazed by the service - friendly staff, ALWAYS on hand even after hours to provide us with anything we asked for, incredible variety of fresh local produce served up for breakfast (including their own eggs and bacon reared down the road). Both mornings the chefs came to chat and check we had eaten well and passed the night comfortably. The differently themed rooms are large and decorated to a very high standard with clean, functional bathrooms and there is an inviting and cosy family pub on the ground floor with a restaurant attached which serves fantastic, reasonably priced food. Have to say i would recommend this hotel-pub to practically everyone!
