Description: Best National Freehouse of the year 2012 and Somerset Cider Pub of the year 2012 It’s all rather blissful here: a hip little inn, a pretty village, stupendous country all around. You’re halfway up a hill with paddocks soaring up to a high ridge on one side and views shooting across a quilt of fields on the other. Wellington boots wait at the front door, so pull on a pair and explore. Return to the pub – rescued from neglect, now shining in relaxed country style – to find a high-ceilinged bar with rugs on flagstone floors, leather sofas on stripped boards, the odd armchair next to the fire. In summer life spills onto a sun-trapping courtyard. Bedrooms upstairs are a treat: small chandeliers, contemporary art, beautiful beds, iPod docks, perhaps vibrant silk curtains or a sofa. Pretty bathrooms come with robes and underfloor heating; one has a painted cast iron bath. Back downstairs, dig into delicious country food, much sourced locally, and wash it down with a pint of ale or a bottle of good wine; there’s also a brilliant cider and apple juice list. Breakfast is taken communally: pub-reared pork for your bacon, home-laid eggs.

“Magnificent Mothers Day”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

My Mum and I stumbled on this gem a couple of weeks ago and when i asked Mum where she wanted to go for Mothers Day, she did not hesitate.

Both times we have visited we have been made to feel most welcome. Nothing seems to be too much effort for the friendly and helpful staff.

The menu is unusual, fresh, unusual combinations as well as the tried and trusted for the not so adventurous. I would not hesitate to recommend the Ploughman's Platter and will definitely be returning just to have that!

Mothers Day was obviously very busy for them but at no stage did we feel rushed or like we were part of a conveyor belt. Our meals were excellent and the service couldn't be faulted.

Definitely worth a visit!

“Great food, Great Atmosphere”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

With fresh ingredients and great local produce, the dinners here were great. It felt like they tried hard to be different and inventive, while also included tried and true local recipes. You can eat in the restaurant or the bar area, which made for casual dining. A must do meal.

“Anniversary Treat”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

Found a good deal for this restaurant with a one night stay on a Travelzoo offer. The staff could not have been more friendly & helpful. The 'special' 7 course tasting menu was a bonus with excellent food & service in a lively breakfast/dining room . Our bedroom was really comfortable & the breakfast choice was also great. Would recommend the full English breakfast. Lovely setting out in the countryside & well worth the drive out there. It is a locals pub too with a good choice of beers. Lots of little extras, magazines in our room, papers in the bar area plus a singer.

““Delightful lunch, gastro delight””
Reviewed March 3, 2014

We have been here for lunch and dinner several times, and it's always a pleasure. This time though evreything just connected beautifully way above their normal high standard - and we had the best dessert made of their own ice cream and sorbets .- really memorable!!!!

“Top marks for a great place”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

It's no surprise that this place has won so many awards. We stop off for some food on our way down to Cornwall and found that The Queens Arms was almost half way so we booked a table. The food in this place is amazing and not just the usual pub grub you often find in such places.

We both had the Venison Welington and it was cooked to perfection followed by the queen of puds and a cheese board. The beers are also to die for as they have so many and if I had time I would have stayed for some of their fantastic range of Whiskies.

We will certainly recomend this place to our friends and next time we will book an overnight stop in one of their rooms as my wife can sample some of their Gins and I can have my Whisky.

We will most defenently be returnind very soon. Keep up the good work.
