Well worth the diversion. The lollipop from the 1 hour tour keeps kids (of all ages) quiet for the rest of the journey.

“Entertaining show, slightly grimy facilities”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2014 via mobile

We chose Candyland as a half way (well nearly) point between rotorua and auckland to meet friends. None of us had been before so no one had any expectations, which was probably a good thing... we arrived early, as suggested on their website and were glad we did, as it was busy. This meant we had heaps of time to wander around. Sadly, there isn't a lot to see so the wait dragged a bit, and gave us more than enough time to notice that the place is a bit grubby. Being greeted by a large dog was a bit off putting too! So, the show... a bit disorganised, quite fun and informative, the 5, 6 and 7 year olds all loved making a giant lollipop. I was put off by noticing the lady doing the demonstration patting her face with the cloth she was using to handle the hot candy. (When I mentioned it later all the other adults in our group had noticed too.) Decided to give the café a miss. Would we go back? Yeah, nah!

“Expired candy still being sold”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2014

The kids were so excited about the wide selection that no one bothered to check expiry dates. Upon checking at home, some of the items with expiry dates were, in fact, expired, so I wonder how old the items without expiry dates would be. Even my manuka honey & lavender hard candies had a rancid oil smell so I don't know if it's even worth sharing with friends. For a more updated selection, just go to Countdown or Pak N'Save.

“won't be going back”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2014

Have always loved stopping in at Candyland when passing through however today was definitely my last visit sadly. After getting lots of pick and mix from the bins and some prepackaged items we went to pay and got a last minute purchase of some fudge that was on sale at the counter. Got home and opened the cellophane wrapping and took a bite of what looked like coconut ice, a layer of pink with a layer of white and coconut dusted on top. It did not taste good at all and when I looked closer I was disgusted to see a small live worm or maggot inside the cellophane on the fudge. It was definitely very old stock and should have been binned not put on sale. Unfortunately I now don't want to eat any of the other stuff from the open bins and we got a lot!

“Kinda creepy and kooky”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

We stopped in here based on the name on a map. Driving into the carpark did leave us wondering if we'd made a mistake in coming. But once inside the array of lollies just blew us away. Yes, it's VERY outdated and yes it needs a serious overhaul and marketing magic wand, but if you can look past these things it's quite fun.

Didn't make it for the tour but I feel like we didn't miss much. Stay focused on the lollies and ignore the rest and be sure to have a huhu grub!
