This place is the best of the worst. Tangkoko Reserve doesn't really have any good accommodations and so we ended up here.
The other places are more basic or completely lacking in character. We saw quite a few homestays but they were just concrete rooms and just felt out of place in the reserve. Tangkoko Dove at least had wooden cottages over an expanse and you felt you were in a jungle. That is the only reason we stayed.
The shock was the moody behavior of the host. While very polite, a few questions about prices was enough to set him off and told promptly that we should not stay! Middle of the jungle with such few options and hardly any transport, we had to talk calmly till he got his mood back. Apologies were offered but it hardly makes up for that.
This was consistent in Sulawesi - sudden abrupt moods and demands when it is most hard to say anything - at the end of trips, hotel check in, guide tantrams, etc. very surprising for what you are used to in Indonesia. The same was apparent in the Tangkoko Reserver where park rangers were more keen to ask you when you will come next instead of showing you things. The tarsiers are used to people and they had a whole gimmick to make you wait for them. Some chit chat and suddenly, it was "Do you want to see them now?" and a flash of light and they were there all the while. Sightings of hornbills, monkeys, tarantulas are rare and need a few hours of wait and quite some luck. The forest is surprising quiet seemingly because of the many people - jeeps were blaring music like downtown Manado.
Food is good though not exceptional. One or two dishes are though. Breakfast, by Indonesian standards, is basic. Pancakes, palm sugar, coffee and bananas.
Rooms are a basic wooden cottage with two beds, mosquito nets. There was no fan given. The bath is not modern but an outdoor one which was quite dirty with mold. Electricity is between 630 and 10pm at night for about 3-4 hours only. Still, this was the best of what we saw.
If you are here expecting jungles like anywhere else in Indonesia, probably worth giving the reserve a miss altogether.
