This was billed in one of the travel books as the best in Castro. Forget that! We were in the older section of the hotel (the new adjacent building where the indoor pool is located must be a lot nicer...hopefully.)

We had a view of the water (room 307) which was nice. We stayed 3 nights...Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No problems on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday night the noise level from the all night bar below was unbelievable. It continued until 5am in the morning and then the barking dogs took over. I shut all the windows and put in my ear plug all to no avail.

The carpet in the bedroom was filthy....worst I have seen in 3 weeks in Chile.

Breakfast was quite acceptable the Wi-Fi worked well.

We needed to get on the road early and had to wait until 7:30am for the clerk to arrive so we could check out.

This hotel must be living on its past reputation as it is certainly is miles from the best hotel in Castro today.

Room Tip: Avoid room 307 on weekends unless you like all night noise

We only stayed 24h, enough to experience two situations that will give you an impression of this "place" I refuse to call hotel...

    (1) We checked in and found old towels and used tampons in the bathroom. After telling them several times to kindly clean our room, we got the answer that the cleaning staff has checked the room and found it to be clean - only after personally instructing and monitoring the cleaning staff we could finally "persuade" them to clean up the mess.

    (2) The morning we checked out some other staff moved construction equipment across the parking lot which resulted in scratches on our rental car. Of course, the surveillance camera recordings "unfortunately" could not be accessed. The management refused to take any responsibility and we were only lucky that the car rental company was extremely generous when we returned the car.

the public rooms are quite nice with excellent views and the restaurant is more than decent. our room was depressingly small though — bed basically touched three walls. worked for one quick night, but suggest you ask in advance for one of the bigger rooms.

Stayed for one night in a double room after we asked to be switched because the first room was a bit small, especially the bathroom (one of those tiny shower cubicles) and the toilet seat a bit loose (though the toilet seats in both rooms also didn't fit the toilets properly, which personally I find slightly uncomfortable). The staff were happy to change our room and were generally very helpful and friendly.

Anyway the second room was a bit more spacious and the king size bed, crisp white sheets and uninterrupted water view were great. The location is good, just five minutes walk to the centre.

One thing I have to point out is that the photos of the hotel pool are inaccurate, there is no blue sky and water view from the pool room, just a bit of garden and from my memory, a stone wall. This doesn't really matter of course but for the sake of honesty I think they should change the photo.

After battling our way driving through central Castro in the pouring rain, we eventually negotiated the one way systems and found Hosteria de Castro, perched on the hillside overlooking Castro harbour. Our double suite in the new wing overlooking the harbour was superb. A large, spacious, modern room. . . . absolutely delightful!
The bar and restaurant areas are also very pleasant taking advantage of the view. We had two evening meals which were very good and good value. Breakfast on the other hand was a disappointment. Most people are looking for a early start to take advantage of their time there, however not being ready at the allocated start time created chaotic scenes on the two nights we stayed there. It is a relatively small breakfast area trying to cope and cater for too many people. The breakfast itself was the usual selection.
Location is very good, just 5 minutes walk to the main centre/shopping area. There is adequate car parking in front of the hotel.
Overall we had a very pleasant stay here, and would certainly recommend it to other travellers. Request a room in the new wing, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Request the new wing
