Mi Palafito Apart & Suite

The hotel is located in the Barrio Gamboa, the famous borough with lots of "palafitos" (pile works). Reception is in the "Cafe del Ponte", which is a coffeehouse on the ground floor, very nice refurbished and with great cakes and breakfast. We stayed two nights in the "Suite" which is on the first floor, above the Cafe. The rest of the hotel is in a different building. The Suite is a big apartment of 60mq with kitchenette, double bed, a sofa/additional bed, a two-rooms bathroom, refurbished old style. The room overlooks the bay and part of the road behind. Wi-Fi is available (complimentary).
The atmosphere is great, and once the cafe is closed (9PM) you are alone in the house. For those who need it, there is no TV but a nice player with Chiloé songs. In cold seasons the room is somehow cold, bathroom has only a small radiator.
We spent 100 Euros for each of the two nights.
Definitely recommended.

Room Tip: You should definitely ask for the suite first floor above the Cafe del Ponte

Having spent the last few weeks staying in mostly budget accommodation we decided to spoil ourselves and stay in a traditional, restored palafito (house on stilts) on the waterfront in Castro. This cost us considerably more than we have been paying but that was largely because there were only two of us in a duplex (two storey) apartment with enough space - and beds - to sleep four adults, two children and a baby (in the cutest cot bed). The accommodation was great - spacious but cosy, traditionally decorated and furnished with lots of period features, eg. Exposed beams, wooden staircases, log fires. There was a fantastic terrace at the rear of the property overlooking the water. The property had everything we needed for self catering and, as an added bonus, there was a washing machine. Breakfast is served at the nearby cafe, which is excellent and different from the run of the mill hotel or hostel breakfast (I had quiche one day) and on Sundays, when the cafe is closed, they provide a takeaway continental breakfast in a chiller box on Saturday evening. Titi, the host, was very friendly and helpful, although we had to communicate in sign language as she spoke no English and we spoke no Spanish. We always got by though and she happily pre-ordered us a taxi for our Sunday departure, when the cafe would be closed. A lovely place to stay if you want something a bit different.

Two days in this unique place that show in once, the old stylish with the modern Chiloe, just lovely place. I DO RECOMMEND.
The hotel in near to the downtown area, you may walk at any time during the day, some rain showers are always expected.
The coffee shop offer a nice variety of house products and a excellent of branding coffee and tea.

We had a great time at this traditional Chiloe "palafito" style house. There was more than enough room for the 5 of us- very comfortable and private. The house is beautifully decorated. The deck looks out onto the water which was great.
The owner was very nice and helpful.
