Great little hosteria in Puerto Williams. Ask for the private room with views of the channel. You have a shared kitchen with amazing views and you can walk the trail leading up the mountain to see the "microscopic forests" and at the top you have a vista like no other in the world. No one is there and if you are lucky to take a drive into the island, you will find pristine rivers, waterfalls, beaches and forests that will amaze you. It's unexplored wilderness and not one must realize that they are at the southernmost tip of the world. Supplies are limited and catching the 3 day ferry to Punta Aranas is the only way out unless you want to fly.

Room Tip: Get the private room with bathroom and enjoy the views. Make sure you have a full tank of propane i...

The hostal has a great view of The Beagle Channel and The Darwin Mountains from some rooms and the breakfast room. Puerto Williams is the most southerly town in the world and it feels like. Monika and Captain Ben were very hospitable and very helpful when trying to get my bearings and plan my short trip. If I visited again I would stay here, it's the best place with the exception of the one luxury hotel out of town.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a great view and a balcony.

Puerto Williams is a must-see place, we came over from Ushuaia on a 2 day visit, and PW very much feels like the end of the world place it is, far more so than Ushuaia. The accommodation we'd been recommended by the tour agency looked pretty grim to be honest, more of a cheap hostel standard, so we said no thanks and took it upon ourselves to tour the town's accommodation prospects, using a leaflet we'd picked up on arriving on Isla Navarino. Tourism really hasn't hit PW yet, thats for sure, there are no "normal" hotels in town (there is one about 5 km outside), just slightly run-down guesthouses and B&B's which almost seem to offer accommodation to tourists as an afterthought.

Bella Vista is an exception in that it actually looks quite nice from the outside, it being located on a small hill about 5 minutes walk from the central village square/market area and the rooms do offer something of a good view. The place is owned by a very friendly American man who runs kayaking and sailing tours to Cape Horn and along the Beagle Channel (Victory Adventures), he leaves his Chilean wife to do the B&B side.

Our room was full of dirty clothes and laundry and hadn't been made when we got there, but was soon cleared up. Its in an annex on the side of the house, just off the kitchen. Luckily there's enough privacy and there's also a good balcony to sit outside on. Breakfast is brought in the morning to your room, the usual basic Chilean affair. I found the price to be quite high for what you get, but there isn't a lot of competition in the town.

Bella Vista seemed to be the best option available though !

For a meal, Carmen's is highly recommended on the main square (just read the comments in the guest book), there's no menu, you just get what she can cook up from the day's fishing catch. This place seemed to double as the only bar in town too.

There's a great supermarket next door, just one problem, only Chilean Navy personnel are allowed to shop in it. The shopping in town is pretty dire.

I'd like to come back and do the Dientes de Navarino circuit. Bella Vista will be where I stay. I just hope its a bit cleaner/tidier than last time.
