Normally when we travel on the Szceczin-Gdansk we stay in a very rough and ready though welcoming place but for the first time ever it was fully booked. Forced to travel further, we saw the Palac w Rymaniu and, after dark it looked truly magnificent. A long drive leads to the main building and there is a water tower to the side. When we were shown the room I thought it might be a bit above our budget but to my surprise it was no more expensive than some far less impressive places.
We had a room for 4, as we had two kids, 12 and 17, with us. They were overjoyed by the towelling dressing gowns and slippers, though soon took them off as 'a bit scratchy'.
The meal was wonderful. We were warned that it might take a while as the kitchen was busy with a wedding party. With this in mind we ordered soup and salad which arrived as promptly as you would wish. We all had Zurek, a traditional Polish soup which was as good as could be, then I had a goat cheese and fruit salad with leaves and my husband had chicken salad. They were both utterly delicious, fresh and light but substantial enough to fill us after a day's driving.
Our beds were comfortable and the room was spotless.
I've been travelling this route for over 20 years and have always found that one detail lets the facade of luxury down. I can honestly say I didn't find anything here.
We didn't have time to try the swimming pool etc but I think that next time we travel this way we'll ignore our old favourite and come here again.
