We traveled to the NH the first week on April 2011 with a large group (19) of all family or family friends. We had two young children and some teenagers. We were told when we made the reservations that we would be next to each other and that did not happen. The resort had great grounds, things were always clean and they look great. The buffet food was the same every day at lunch and was very low quality at dinner time. The sit down restaurants had great food; however you can only make 3 reservations during your stay. Make sure you bring a clock because they do not have clocks anywhere on the resort. The pool and pool bar close at 6 and they weren’t open till 11. The one thing that really aggravated us is that the “paradise members” could use our pool and take our chairs while their pools were empty and no one was there and we were not allowed to enter their pool areas. The snorkeling through the resort was a great deal. The snorkeling was great around the reef with lots of fish and they were so tame they would eat out of your hand. We also went on Bavarro runners’ tour and that was a great tour, we went through the towns and saw a plantation. Make sure you bring enough sunscreen because it is very expensive ($38) in the resort store. Also make sure you have cash on you because they charge a fee when using a credit card if they take it. Make sure that you always barter prices with people; you can get prices about 60% lower than initial price. One other thing we were disappointed with was the resort entertainment, we felt like there was nothing (games, volleyball, dance) to do during the day when lounging by the pool. There was a man you was doing finger painting picture and he offers you the chance to make your own picture, if you are somewhat interested I would do it. It was lots of fun. Overall we had a good time but we feel the trip could have been better!

Our stay at the NH Real at the end of April/beginning of May, 2011 left a lot to be desired. We travelled with a group of all adults, 6 couples and 1 single, and had a total of 7 rooms. The grounds of the resort and the beach are beautiful and pretty well maintained. I felt the rooms were nice and seemed clean, but towels and pillows were few. While the hotel was accommodating in trying to get all of our rooms as close to one another as possible, that was about as far as it went. The staff seemed very unhappy, and almost afraid, and all spoke little or no English at all, which granted, we were in a foreign country, but in a tourist area like this, it would help if the staff were trained to have a little better basic communication skills in more languages than just Spanish (there were many visitors there from Europe as well as the United States and Canada). The food was, at the very best, average and a lot was below average at both buffets and the resturants. The pool closes every day at 6:00 PM, so if you like to take a moonlight dip in the pool while on vacation, forget it!!! As is typical at almost any "all-inclusive" resort, there is always an alternative offerred (that you would have to pay for) for things that are supposedly included, such as snorkelling (a $20 deposit is required per person, which is understandable in case their equipment doesn't make it back to them). A $35 per person alternative will get you a boat ride to a coral reef for an hour. I didn't take the bait on this one so I can't comment on whether it was worth it or not.
However, the bowling alley is not "included" as you are led to believe. Evidently, the game itself is included, but you must rent your shoes. The bowling alley/pool table area closed every night early (at least 8:00 or 9:00) but it was posted to be open til midnight. The bowling alley is completely closed on Sundays. Within our group, couples who ordered room service had to wait anywhere from 15 min to 3 hours for their food to arrive. On our last night at the resort, one of our couples room flooded after a rain (the shower drain came back up into the room, flooding the entire room with 1-2 inches of water). This can happen anywhere, but the way the management handled the situation is what takes the cake! Maintenance was sent to the room and another comparible room was provided and that alternative room had not been cleaned! No manager or other staff besides maintenance showed up at the flooded room to accommodate the tennants, to try to "make up" for their inconvenience! The tennants had to go all the way to the front desk to talk to a manager and when they confronted him, he went to a room behind the counter and wouldn't come out! He left the desk clerks with HIS responsiblity! After much persuasion by the tennants, they were finally upgraded to an oceanview room for the final night...this should have been a given, not something that had to be begged for! Also, anyone considering this resort should know that they have "Dominican Weekends". This means that if there are any available rooms, local people are offerred an EXTREMELY cut rate for the weekend and apparently are allowed to bring as many people as can fit into each room! By the end of Saturday through Monday around lunch (when we left), the resort was enundated with people who seemed to have had at least 3-4 children per adult (not couple), which would not have been a problem, if any of them would have had any respect for each other or others around them! Food from the buffets being piled in plates (and spilled in the pool!), disrepectfully breaking in line at the buffets, taking over lounges that were obviously being used by others, etc. It was mayhem!! I'm not sure if this is the practice every weekend, but I was told that this resort is one of the only ones in the area that practices this. If you are considering staying here, I would recommend calling beforehand to make sure (and insist on speaking with someone who can understand you and you can understand them!). As I said before, if everyone was respectful, this wouldn't be a problem, but when you spend a lot of money to have a nice relaxing time, it is very frustrating to have someone make it uncomfortable for you (especially when they haven't paid anything close to what you have paid for the same service and accommodations!). Anyway, I'm not sure if the accommodations are any different on the adult only side (I would hope they would be since it costs more money!) but if you are travelling with adults only, I would not recommend this resort at all. Maybe if I was travelling with children, my perspective would have been different about the hours kept for all the ammenities, but even if I would have had my children with me, they like to swim even in the evening and they would have been greatly disappointed in this resort, as well!

My fiance and I went to the NH Arena for 1 week on April 23rd and we really had a great, relaxing time! We usually vacation in Cuba so we have to say the food was super amazing at this resort! We always found lot's to eat at the buffet and we didn't find the food to be cold once we got to our seats or bland for that matter.

The staff was excellent and really attentive, we tipped everyone and they were always grateful and not expectant in any way of any gratuity. We dug that some of the staff didn't speak great English, it helped us work on our Spanish! It was fun!

We were driven to our room, and escorted right to the actual room. Our guide let us know which direction the beach was in, and which direction the buffet was in. Perfecto! What more does one need to know?

The rooms were always clean, and we got lot's of extra water just by leaving them a note and asking for only water. The bathroom is really big and spacious, you get a shower and a tub, but it's all open concept which means you can hear EVERYTHING! Haha! Thank goodness for balconies!

The grounds were impeccable and well maintained everyday. The pools were nice, but it's busy around the pools and we would like to see them use salt water in the pools instead. That would be pretty rad. The beach does tend to fill up quickly, but we always got seats. We headed there right after breakfast at around 10am. The sun is glorious and strong!! I wore SPF 30 the whole time and I look like Snooki. Bring a hat too.

While you're on the beach, you will be approached by at least 1 or 2 people daily trying to sell you an excursion. If you say "no thanks" they will leave you alone. They are friendly for the most part. The beach is really busy, lot's of noise and people, but it still beats working in my book. The water has a lot of seaweed in it, they clean it daily, but it's there. And there are buoys set up all around the water so you can only swim in a certain designated spot and there are boats and stuff whizzing around you. I don't swim, but my fiance does, and this was a bit of an issue. The sand is awesome though! It's really smooth and it doesn't hurt to walk on. I'm a big fan of the sand!

You get a small flat screen in your room, with loads of channels which was nice. We watched a lot of travel channel before bed. The hotel entertainment was also nice, nothing too overbearing and loads of variety. They even had fireworks one night which was cool.

We didn't do any A la Carte's except for the Japanese restaurant. We didn't expect a lot because we are avid sushi eaters and so the food at this restaurant was no big deal. They made a big stirfry with shrimp, steak, chicken, veggies, rice, egg and soy sauce. It was meh. The waiter serving us kept meowing which I didn't get. And then another server walked around the restaurant barking at the top of his lungs, that was also weird. It was a little demeaning to sit and eat while being meowed and barked at, we felt uncomfortable. But we sat through the dinner and then headed for the buffet and avoided the a la carte's after that! This didn't ruin our trip or anything, we just felt awkward on that particular night.

Another instance we found HILARIOUS - one day vendors come to set up their wares by the pool. We wanted to get some gifts for some people back home. We picked out 2 necklaces, and one bracelet - all together we figured they would cost around $25. The vendor guy said $385!! Bahahaha!! We asked if there were diamonds hidden inside the necklaces that the naked eye couldn't see? I also asked if he thought we were Donald and Milania Trump. Anyway, we said there was NO way we were paying anything remotely close to that, he said he would wait for us to get money from our credit cards. Now, keep in mind, we just thought this was uber funny, we didn't get offended and we ended up getting one necklace for $20 which was still a rip off, but a lot better then $385!!

Gifts there are generally on the pricey side. They have a gift shop on the resort and nothing is too affordable there. Keep in mind that 50 Dominican dollars = $2 US dollars. We avoided the nearby "mall" which is right on the beach for fear of being accosted by pushy vendors.

There are lots of kids milling around, but they are cute and never added to any noise because really, the resort is enormous!!

I think that's about all you need to know! Oh yeah, we read that we would need $20 US to present at the airport in order to leave the Dominican, but this wasn't the case. Because we flew all inclusive with Air Transat, this was also included, something you may want to check on before you leave.

So, all in all, a great resort. We'll be back for sure.

Too much of a mega resort...we felt like we were on a conveyer belt, you never saw the same people twice...we upgrades upon arrival to the pink wristband our view was breathtaking we overlooked main pool and ocean and spent a lot of time on our personal balcony. There are no clocks anywhere in the resort so you never know what time it was. To get a shaded umbrella on beach plan to be up by 6 am. We never were, so spent every day in the sun and it is difficult to find loungers on the beach....there are too many locals bugging you to go to their shops and they make you feel guilty when you saw no...Food at beach bar buffet is bland and repetitive but main buffet was good for lunches the a la carte were all good. we recommend the beef tenderloin at the Italian and the steak at the shore grill the house white wine is ok but better at the a la carte even though it is the same label....drinks were good but very strong and my biggest complaint is the pina colattas they are a frozen mix like the ones we can buy in a tub at the grocery store at home, when I go away I expect a real fresh pina colatta...Nightly entertainment was excelent...overall we had a good time but the resort is too busy for us the beach was the best and the weather was wonderful

Room Tip: upgrade to 4th floor if you want ocean view

We recently took a family vacation April 22-29 to this resort.. It was by far the best resort we have been to yet!! I can't say anything bad about this place. Food was great, people were very friendly. Pools, beaches, grounds, and rooms were very clean. The only thing is the bathrooms in the room were a little weird. The openess should be optional. Other than that I would definatly go back!!
