I stayed in this penthouse during a one week vaction along with 3 other family members. The apartments were nice but you're still better off getting an all exclusive resort which will be a few hundred dollar cheaper. The rental agreement stated we would have internet and a t.v which was never connected during our entire stay. The property owner Philip did provide us with a mobile hotspot but it hardly ever worked, so we were pretty much without internet the entire time which was a very big inconvience since it was our only means of communication. Both pools were also down for maintnence for a day and a half which we didn't know was going to happen until the staff told us we had to get out when we swimming and we ended up being without internet, t.v. and pool access during that time. We also had some plumbing issues. I know things happen and this property is in a 3rd world country so things are done differently but it's ridiculous all the problems we had with the cost of the property. You also have to pay for your own electricty which is VERY expensive. Even without t.v and us being out and about most of the day our electric bill ended up being over $200 at the end of the trip. I was blamed for it being that high for running the A/C the entire time but it was hard not to do that with how hot it gets there. At the end Philip took care of the electric bill for all the troubles and my last interaction with the property staff there was an argument with the gentleman who collected the keys, he pretty much ran us off the property. Overall I'm just upset with how poorly managed the property was and felt that we were not given the same red carpet treatment another company could have provided us with. Save your money and don't come stay here. Take your business and money where the management is more organized then this place.
This condo was great. We had a group of 6 people, who fit wonderfully in the 3 bedroom, 3 bath space. The photos in the listing are true to life. It was really nice to have enough bathrooms, and for us to have shared living space and a kitchen. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of dishes and cookware, plus toaster, blender, coffeemaker, etc. The pools at the condo are clean and well-kept, staff was friendly, neighbors gave us lots of suggestions, and there are outdoor grills to use. The location is safe, comfortably walk-able to many restaurants and a few grocery places. We bought food for breakfasts and mostly went out for lunch and dinner. There is a constant breeze but we did use the air conditioner a few nights, especially in the upstairs master bedroom where it got pretty warm. However, our electric bill for 5 nights was only about $40, so not too bad.
The other condos seemed like it was more long-term rentals. It was mostly retirees, and some families with kids. It was pretty quiet. Our group was late 20s-early 30s, but we weren't being super rowdy or staying up very late, so we fit in fine. If you were planning on late night drunken pool parties, you might get some attention for it.
A couple days, we bought day passes at the Barcelo Dominican Beach resort (~$40 per person, from 10am-6pm. Access to all pools and beaches, bars, and restaurants open at that time. It was a great deal.) We also used the public beach access, which was also fine, although you don't have beach chairs that way, and there are salespeople trying to sell you boat rides and things. We didn't do any excursions, but there is information at the condo if you want to. We used Phil's recommended taxi company for all of our trips to and from the airport, plus transportation out for a fancy dinner one night. They were wonderful, easy to contact, very prompt. The housekeeper, Heriberta, who met us with the keys was very friendly and helpful in getting us settled. The wifi was also VERY appreciated.
All in all, we were a little concerned about going outside a resort for this trip, but it ended up being a great decision. We wanted to be able to comfortably hang out with our whole group, and take care of some of our own food and drink needs. This was the perfect location to do that. Phil was also very responsive, both while we were planning the trip, and also while we were there. Totally recommend this spot.
One note: brush up on your Spanish. We assumed that because we were in a resort location, the majority of people would speak English. This was not entirely true. You would mostly be able to get around without Spanish, but things like the taxi would be much more difficult. We certainly appreciated the Spanish speakers in our group who did most of the talking.

We loved staying at this apartment, comfortable beds, great patio space, easy to cook in kitchen. Pools and grills in the common area were a hit. Close walk to the beach, grocery stores, and restaurants. Highly recommend the restaurant one block away, Pastrata.
Landlord is very available by email/phone, coordinated taxi from the airport. Great place for family or small group of friends.
Bavaro is pretty full of all inclusive resorts and the beaches nearby can get crowded. Consider renting a car and driving to Macao or other close beaches.
Great wifi! (though it gets weak in the master bedroom) Only room for improvement would be in shower water pressure, but that comes with the territory when traveling.
