A great 4 star for a family trip. We just spent a week at the Iberostar Punta Cana, and had an amazing time:) Bavaro beach is definitely one of the most beautiful beach in the world.
The food is ok, typical all-inclusive resort-type of buffets. The food at the à-la-carte were not good at all:( We tried the Star Café and the oriental and they were not worth much... Stick with the buffets;) They have pretty good omelets, lots of fresh fruit and great pasta bars.

One thing I would change: Get rid of the damn roosters!!!! They woke me up every morning at 5:30am!! One good thing about it is that I was able to make it to the beach by 6 and see the beautiful sunrises, and get a decent spot on the beach. Expect to not have anything if you're not there by 7!!! I know we're not supposed to reserve spots, but everyone does it, and if you miss out, then too bad for you, there wont be anything left. I was told that we did not have access to Iberostar Bavaro, where they have the kids waterpark: we did go and got to spend 3 afternoons without any issues. You just can't eat there.

We had a family suite, which was perfect for us since we were 5. It was a nice size main room with one king size bed and a seperate bedroom with 2 double beds. We asked to have an extra cot, and we were very happy when they brough us a full size single bed: all 3 kids had their own bed which made things very confortable for all of us:)

The entertainment was a lot of fun, they have the crazy games at 4 pm everyday, and they are a lot of fun!!! Watch out for the arm wrestling competition, if you lose your match, you end up with a marshmallow cream pie in the face (was certainly happy to win that one!)

The kids club was great, we ended up leaving the kids one afternoon, and they loved it. The staff is amazing, they work really hard and are always happy:)

My husband and 11 yr old daughter went scuba diving and really enjoyed it. The instructors were quite knowledgable, but not the friendliest. We also enjoyed the free sailing, and in-pool scuba try-out for the kids. There is a shopping strip directly on the beach within walking distance, lots of souvenirs-type of stuff.

Don't forget to tip, these people work really hard for not much. They will never stick around and wait for it or make you feel like you have to tip, but they really appreciate if you do:) We ended up giving all the toys we brought with us to one of the kids club staff who is a single mom and was super nice to us. We also left someone all the extra toileteries we had, since we did not want the extra weight (Dont forget that all that humidity adds up in the luggage!)

Overall: Beautiful, well-maintained grounds/gardens, good food, beautiful beach and awesome entertainement! Paradise on earth on a family budget! I'm a well seasoned traveller to the Caribbean: I've been to many different resorts in different countries on different budgets and really enjoyed this one!

We would certainly recommend this place for people travelling with children: A nice, safe and fun place to go:) GO!

Room Tip: Family suites are amazing:)

We stayed here from 12-19 March, 2014 and had a GREAT time with our friends. The weather was perfectly sunny everyday of our vacation. The hotel grounds were beautiful with Flamingo's walking about. The restaurants were very open and clean with a large selection of food. The pool and beach area's were very large with lots of huts for sun coverage it you prefer. Lots of activities to choose from on the beach and around the pool. Very relaxing at the beach. Great music poolside. It was busy, but never felt crowded, especially considering this was spring break. Rooms are very clean and turndown service given daily. Staff very friendly. Lots of excursions to choose from. Golf Course is EXCELLENT. We look forward to coming back again. This was our Best Vacation Ever !!!

We stayed here from the 11 to 18 March and had a great time. Surprisingly, it was not too busy. The ambiance is nice, especially the outdoor feel and staff are very friendly.

Eating with a view of the ocean was nice. However, I think they should enforce some small modicum of a dress code at the Dominicana beach buffet as seeing soaking wet bare feet people traipsing through the tiled area leaving big wet footprints was a bit unnecessary.

This is also the only AI I have seen staff actively remove resort towels reserving chairs if no other personal items were accompanying it. They did this between 7:15 and 8 am on most days.

Our only wish would have been a bit more selection at the buffets. We could not find any blue cheese and would have preferred a few more local dish options. Having said this, we did not bother to try an a la carte and were overall content with the buffet.

We would return.

Let me start off by complementing the complete staff at this resort ...
Friendly, helpful, happy to the nth degree ...
Rooms were kept spotless ... Common areas near the beach kept free from sand ...
Food service staff ... quick, helpful and fun to have around ...
We've seen a lot of good service on other vacations ... but this was above them all
I feel they truly loved doing their job ...

Food and Drink ... Soda, Juice and Cocktails available constantly ...
The food was rather good considering they had to cater to many different tastes (American, British, European, Latin American) ... The station chefs tried hard to please ... although getting an egg over easy for breakfast with an unbroken yolk was a challenge ...
Only 2 nights to reserve ala carte ... surprising as the restaurants were only half full on the Friday and Saturday we took them ... The buffet was fine with our son and daugher in law finding our 2 young grandkids something they liked easily ...

Very nice pools with kiddie areas and different depths for different people's wants ... beautiful beach kept very clean ... lounges were almost all constantly reserved ... not the resort's fault but the people who will throw a towel down and disappear for 4, 5 or 6 hours ... knowing their 30 minutes on the beach is safe ...
I really felt like collecting towels and trading them in for towel cards ...
10 people swimming with 40 lounges empty except for a towel ... not right ...

The rooms were a good size ... but the beds were mush and the shower had good heat but no pressure ... after a night on that bed with poor AC, my back needed the hot shower massage that was not available ...

Air conditioning is virtually non existent ... our room was maybe 2 degrees cooler than the outside ... and most other areas are open air ... The staff responded well to try to make things better but the hamster running the AC must have been too tired ...
The casino that people complained about was fine ... small ... but sparsely attended ... definitely adequate for the casual waste time gamblers we are ...

Things are well spread out giving that never crowded feeling which is nice ... but makes for some long walks to get places ...

The safe is now free and Internet is $35 for unlimited for the week ... big pluses ...

All in all the accomadations need a lot of work and the food needs some tweaking but the great staff alone is reason to chose a vacation here ...

Room Tip: Midway - make room to food and room to pool about the same ...
