I happend to check into a room adjacent to a new constuction site next door not cool when you're trying to relax. My room was changed the next day no issues but they relocated us to a room across from all the activities in the pool. Delt with it, everyone was having a blast. Beach by the aquatic sport area was the best!
If it weren't for the staff and food in The Palapa Playa Restaurant my review would not be so positive, they really made the trip worth while. Actually their service is the only reason I would ever return. They made us feel like family. Manager Leonardo DeLeon runs a nice place, Servers Pablo Rafael Castillo and Carlos Belen were awsome! Wrkia Valdez made it all come together, she is FANTASTIC!! I can't stress enough how lucky they are to have her working there. We Love You Wrkia!!! See you soon.

We thought we made a good choose because of all the positive reviews but we were in for a surprise. The food is poor, hotel rooms are out dated you feel like your back in the 80s and the bath rooms are small to get in and out of. Bring sun tan lotion or you will have to pay 25 dollars for a small bottle. The beach is beautiful, the pools are nice and the local beer is cold.

We went to Majestic Colonial at the end of August 2013. Here is what we thought:

Entertainment/ Entertainment Staff

Good - could use some improvement. We found the entertainment staff pretty good, they were always around and always trying to get people on the beach to join in on games. Gigi, Swagger, and Tutti Fruitti were great, very funny! The foam party was pretty fun, the hotel dance party (70s, 80s dancing) was great! They should do more dance parties if it was up to us. The shows are okay, not my favourite. The best show we saw was the Magic Show! Very cool and entertaining. We also loved the sax player around 7:30-9:30PM. We did find that there was nothing to do after the show...and sometimes we didn't even stay for the entire show because it wasn't that good. They should have live music and dance in the hotel lobby/coffee bar at night, it would definetly give people something to do after dinner....

Beach Activities

Pricey. You have to pay about 15-20US$/per person for all the beach activities which requre a motor (ie. banana boat). Other hotels I've been to it was included in your price (one ride per room per day), so we found this to be expensive.

Beach

The beach is perfect. I've been to many all inclusive resorts and this beach is one of the best ever. It is very wide and very long. There are enough huts for everyone for shade, you never had to wake up early and reserve a hut! (That might also be beacuse we went at the end of the summer, "rain" season so the hotel wasn't at full capacity.) The only bad thing about the beach is that the water area is roped off (reason: for the motor boats to pass by around the roped off area). I've never seen this before. We took a walk down to the other resorts to see if their water area was roped off, and it was as well, but they got a much larger area to swim in...our rope was just a few meters into the water which sucked if you wanted to go to something deeper than up to your neck.... You were allowed to go past the rope, but that area wasn't maintained (lots of seaweed) and you had to be careful about oncoming boats!

Pool

Although we spent all our time at the beach, the pool was massive. It goes through the entire resort, top to bottom. Pics show it all.

Front Desk/ Check in

No help at all. They're generally very rude and don't really care to help you with anything. The check in was at 3PM and we got to the hotel around noon, and had to waste 3 hours becuase they wouldn't let us take our room key and just kept repeating "check in is at 3PM". We ended up asking for our towel key so we can at least get towels and maybe hit up the beach for a bit...

Food

Good, not many complaints. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the choice of food. There were manyyyyy restaurants to choose from and if you didn't like that, you can hit up the buffet which had a large selection of food. We went to the Japanease restaurant (which requres a reservation) and LOVEDDDD it. It was a cool experience to sit with the chef and have him cook food for you right at your table!! We also went to the Stake House, Mexican, and Seafood restaurants. The Mexican I DO NOT RECOMMEND....we all had stomach issues after. Other than that, the food was good. The buffet at lunch was fine as well, if you didn't like what they offered, you can always ask the cooks to make you something (your customized pasta or meat). Breakfast had a lot of selection as well.

Colonial versus Club side

We stayed at the Colonial side (under 18) and knew some friends at the Club side. The negatives are that the Colonial side, you have to pay $3 for wifi for one hour and you haev to stay in the lobby, and move around when you're losing signal. The Club side gets free wifi in their room. The club side also got beach bags, which we did not. Their side of the hotel look nicer than ours in the snese that it looks more taken care of (non rusty doors, walls, etc). A lot of this stuff is not going to make or break your vacation, but it sucked to find out that the Club side paid as much as we did and they got a few more perks...

Room

Massive, spacious. We had a room with 2 double beds. The beds were somewhat small but the room was MASSIVE. The bathroom is good, and you had a closed off shower and toilet area..howeveer, other than that there wasn't much privacy in the bathroom. The toilet area was tiny, only used to go to the toilet, so there wasn't anywhere else to change but the bedroom. The rooms were clean (the maid did a great job). Our balcony door wouldn't lock, we didn't mind as muich because we were on the 2nd floor, btu this could pose a problem to someone on the first. We didn't bother telling the front desk (I doubt they'd do much about it!!!)..

Overall Experience

Overall we really liked the hotel and enjoyed our stay. We didn't have much to complain abuot, and if there was anything, one look at the beach and we forgot all about it ;) I would recommend this hotel to family and friends and I would return (but to the CLUB side).

Was here with my parents, husband and 10 year old twins. First, make sure they drop you off at Majestic Colonial and not Majestic Elegance... Staff was great, speacially Juan at the front desk. The food is amazing at the main buffet, great selection of food. The service is very slow at the restaurants you make reservations for... not good for kids, ok for couples. The pool is 4ft from begining to end, very good for my kids. Pool might need a little scrubbing in certain spots and floor is very slippery. We asked to change rooms because we were facing a construction site. Juan accomodated us with a pool view. The rooms are a little outdated and corners are not cleaned too well. The beds are not too comfortable. We had to ask for one of the beds to be replaced because of a broken leg. The nightly entertainment was great. The beach area is beautiful. Overall, I would return.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view, We had rooms 2214 and 2215 which was right across from the bar and far enough from the afternoon loud activities that young people enjoy.

This is a nice resort, but it falls short of a five star property, 3.5 starts at best. I will list the pros and cons.

Pros:

1. Upgrade to the Club, it's worth the extra $. The lounge, snacks, beverages and Wi-Fi are worth it.
2. Beautiful property, gorgeous beach, bail beds, colonial pool area are all very good.
3. some of the staff is nice and some are not so friendly

Cons:

1. the property needs upkeep and repair, cracked tiles, the façade needs repair, rooms are not spotless, malfunctioning bathrooms
2. ants in the bathroom area in our room and the pool area
3. elevator out of order
4.waiting on line to make dinner reservations at 9:00 am, if you go later the restaurants are all booked
5. average food, nothing spectacular
6. watered down or lots of sugar drinks at the bar, no premium liquor.
7. housekeeping; three of us in the room, kept getting only two bath towels and constantly had to ask for more towels, that was annoying (and I tipped everyday)
8. really can not leave the resort, not much going on in the area and behind a security gate

This is not a five star resort, though they try to advertise it that way.
