+Pros:
We dealt with Carla. She is a professional agent.
The condo is in great shape and the equipment are clean and nice.
The balcony and BBQ is great
The restaurants are in vicinity and they are great.
Easy access to the Mini Market
TV Channels are very good and decent.
Balcony set was great and comfortable
Great pools
- Cons
Beach was not useable due to lots of algae, I had to jump over 50 cm height of algae to reach water. The management did not clean it during 5 days we stayed there.
Don't buy fish from the guy at the entrance, the fish wasn't fresh and he tried to cheat on weight. He claimed the fish weighted 7 pounds and after I checked it was 5.5 pounds.
The access with stroller (or wheelchair) was challenging to our section since there are 3 steps before reaching the elevator.

Tip: The best beach is around 20 min drive and it is called Macao. Very nice place,

Thank you for your review and your feedback. Great to hear you enjoyed the condo and our staff, especially Carla, made it an enjoyable stay.

In terms of the algae (sargassum), the cause for unusual large amounts on our beaches remains unclear. Local experts note that strong and unusual currents from recent storms have probably brought the mass of seaweed from the Sargasso Sea to the Caribbean including our shores in Punta Cana. It is anticipated that the masses of seaweeds could increase as more tropical storms are predicted for this hurricane season,” it adds.
Changing currents and more powerful storms due to climate change are one possibility. Another is rising ocean temperatures, and the resulting effects on the growth rates of different marine species.

Vince Best, an environmental scientist and lecturer at Antigua State College, told Inter Press Services (IPS), “It is possible that climate change could be indirectly responsible for the proliferation of this particular weed which is currently affecting many global coastlines.

“Increased temperatures and the associated effects may be the precursor which is somehow affecting the overall physiology of the various species of this weed causing, maybe, excessive growth; hence the excessive amounts of the weed seen in aquatic environments.”

“It’s hard to tell the real reason why the sargassum weed is washing up on shores in the Caribbean without some kind of technical assessment,” Sandra Prescod Dalrymple, environmental resource management specialist with ESP Consultants (Caribbean) Inc. told IPS.

“It could be as a result of strong winds that cause strong wave action, winter swells or a combination of things.”

It seems other Caribbean islands are being affected the same way as in Punta Cana and in some cases even worse. It is Mother Nature at work and not much that can be done. We will definitely inform management in Playa Turquesa and have them clean like they have normally done in the past. Not quite sure why there was no cleaning during your stay.

We look forward to your next visit.
