The resort grounds were nicely manicured but the buildings were not marked so it was hard to find your room. The food was poor to average. At breakfast the pancakes were so hard that you could not cut them and when you tried to speak to the breakfast staff good luck if you don't speak Spanish because the only staff who spoke English was the front desk. The beach was very narrow with not many shady areas. Overall the hotel was average. I don't think we will return.

Room Tip: Some third floors are two levels with hot tub and outdoor deck that was nice.

“I recommend this hotel, it is a great place to relax, we spent a nice time there. The staff was helpful, kind, and always with a big smile in their faces in special David Vilorio and Dolores in the front desk.
The hotel is big, in fact there are 4 hotels together, you can find several restaurants to eat, different activities to do too, a nice spa with the most relaxing massages ever.” Veronica and David.

I stayed at this resort for 8 nights. Upon arriving by coach from the airport this complex at first seems massive. There was a mix up while checking in which our tour operator who was on the coach and hotel staff didn’t explain. The hotel is split into different named areas – Royal Suites, The Palace, Bavaro & Punta Cana which wasn’t explained to us when we arrived. Apparently the Punta Cana part is the worst. The palace reception which I checked in at the staff where more concerned about form filling and placing the all-inclusive wrist bands on and handing a map out of the complex. I tried to explain to the hotel front desk that there may be a mix up with where I am staying having booked a deluxe room but we were given a junior suite. At this point our rep was back on the coach and away. We were then shipped off by a bell boy without cases and onto the trains they use to get from A to B. It took about 5 mins to get to our room which was in the Bavaro part of the complex and not the Palace as written on our welcome pack. The Room was fairly spacious but there was no lock on the bathroom door and the shower drain was no fixed down into the floor. There was a lingering drain smell which as time went on came and went. The plug in the bath Jacuzzi wasn’t working too. I went to the rep meeting the next morning to mention the room mix up and when I said about the plug he asked for my room so I said. He said “you can’t be in that room no as you’re in the palace” so at that point there was still a mix up. He then explained to me that the rooms in the bavaro are better than the palace and are only one grade below the royal suites. The plug was never fixed during my stay. The room itself was well situated nr the pool, lobby, Hemingway’s bar & the main buffet area and a short walk to the beach. The buffet place (la cathedral) is a large food hall. The walk way to our room had no lighting whatsoever so you had to be careful of pavement slabs which were not flush to the ground. The food in the evening was very samey and average (not very warm) while the breakfast was good. Service wasn’t too bad but more often than not you had to get the staffs attention for drinks or for cutlery. There’s isn’t much else to do in the evening other than drink in the hotel lobby bar where there is entertainment which was a female singer and a backing band. On a negative observation at the hotel lobby bar after initially having 2 or 3 drinks if you didn’t tip (which we had no intention of doing so on our 1st few days) the same waiter/ress would stop coming over to you so you would then have to call one over. I ended up ordering at the bar myself which wasn’t a problem and was a lot easier than waiting. I’m unsure whether there is hotel policy on tipping and if so what it is. The waiting staff seemed to favour guests who tipped each time. The beach and pool areas were excellent and well-staffed. There was no problems getting a sun bed or clean towels. The café arriche was a good place to go to for afternoon food. One evening we decided to get the hotel train to another buffet type place but found the service very much the same as la cathedral and frustratingly of all the train service which no one seems to know when it arrives and when it does where its going. You ask a bell boy and they just point or just ignore you which is very poor. The beach which is attached to the hotel is excellent. No problems with space or sunbeds. There are also bars on the beach. On checking out, we went to the Punta Cana lobby and we decided to get our cases wrapped in cling film as we had heard there was incidents of airport staff going into cases at the airport. when I asked the hotel staff where this service was he said he wasn’t here and could not tell us the time he would be there. He pointed to the machine and we went to it as our tour rep was close by. Mentioned this to our rep and he told some guy next to him that he had a customer so the guy was there after all. Our flight was cancelled after this so we had to go back to the bavaro to the same room and there was no problem checking in. so overall I wouldn’t rate this hotel as a 5* purely on what I experienced as the service was average, the food in the evening was bland and the place seems disorganized. On the plus side the weather, beach, rooms are all very good. We had a good time but wouldn’t go back or recommend this resort to anyone wanting to visit. Special mention to Maria Ramirez who worked in Hemingway’s and Ronald around the pool area at the bavaro and our cleaner Fransisca whose all help & work we appreciated. Tip: on entering Punta Cana airport is very chaotic so have your immigration forms filled out per person and have $10 each for entry. On your outbound flight its the same but with $20 each.
