Grand Bavaro is the most luxurious of the ones nearby on this coast. The resort amenities were impeccable and definitely more upscale with scenery the plants & even flamingos in the pond area.

The staff was superbly attentive, maybe just a little too pushy with "activities" while sun bathing. The pool area was nice with plenty of sofa bed cabanas.

We were here mid October so it was quiet, thankfully it wasn't party central. Anyway, the beach scenery was not so beautiful. Murky water, washed up debris, and generally stayed by the pool.

The room was spacious as well as the balcony area. No complaints about the food (as it is all inclusive.) I've stayed at resorts with significantly worse quality. Plenty of seafood galore.

Room Tip: Rooms looking at the pirate bay is nice and scenic.

In complete agreement that this all inclusive resort is extraordinary ...extremely accommodating and friendly staff, immaculately clean, upscale dining and bar options, and a beautiful park like setting.

We were somewhat concerned about the reviews of some rude guests who felt entitled to reserve cabanas and not use them, but found that cabana attendants kept an hourly log of cabana usage. We stopped by the attendant station at prime pool and beach time, and the attendants quickly found us cabanas, removed the 'saved' towels, and we were set. No problem every time.

We like to visit different upscale all-inclusives, but the Grand is definitely on the repeat list.

What can we say that hasn't already been said? This was a nearly perfect winter interlude. The staff, service, accommodations, beach, pool were all amazing. The special restaurants were generally acceptable but not as gourmet as we expected.

The only real disappointment was the Japanese restaurant where the service was slow, the food too salty and the staff in attentive. The buffet was terrific for breakfast and lunch. Loved the hours of operation so we never felt rushed.

Pool service was great. No limit on the number of towels, sunscreen available at the towel shed and terrific servers available to bring water and cocktails throughout the day.

We will be back next winter!

My husband and I just returned yesterday from this adults only hotel. Last year we went to the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso in Mexico and didn't think we could find another hotel that would even come close. The Paraiso was much bigger and the best vacation we have ever had however, the Grand Bavaro in Punta Cana was right up there on almost every level. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and well maintained. The pool was clean and refreshing. The beach was very nice with plenty of huts for shade. There is a constant breeze near the water to keep you cool. The bathroom at the pool is constantly being cleaned as are most of the common areas in the hotel. Even though the hotel was at capacity, it never felt crowded and usually you can find a place to sit. The resort is very quiet (not as quiet as Mexico) and provided much needed R&R for us. I do agree with many of the reviews that people place their towels to "save" a spot but sometimes never return. I am an early riser and was out at the beach by 7:30 to read and sometimes by the late afternoon those saved spots still have no one there. One of my issues with the pool and beach chairs was that many of them were old and the bars on the back don't stay up because they are eroding from the weather. There were plenty of wait staff at the beach and poolside. One of our favorites was Rosie. She was the only one to make recommendations for drinks. I wish we had started drinking those "gray goose and lemonade frozen drinks" on our first day!
We can't say enough about the butlers that were so helpful to us. Jonathan, Miguel and Ruben. Ruben went out of his way to check on us almost on a daily basis. Anything you could possibly ask for was available upon request. He was even trying to arrange a romantic bubble bath for us but unfortunately I'm not a bath kind of person.
The maid service was also top notch. Our rooms were cleaned twice a day and were spotless. Fresh towels, rose pedals and towels shaped like animals were a nice touch. We never worried that something would be taken from our room.
The food at the resort was also very good. There are four themed restaurants that reservations can be made at. The Italian, surf and turf, Japanese and French. We did find out from other guests that a fifth one existed, Mediterranean (casa a la playa) and requested reservations for that one. I'm not sure why our butlers didn't tell us about it but we were then told that is was a new one and they were still working out the menu. We liked all the specialty restaurants but the Kobe beef at the Mediterranean one was unbelievable. We did find the lunch buffet to be just "okay". One thing to remember is that if you get a hamburger for lunch, they need to grill it more. (They brown the outside first but when you want one, they put it back on the grill to cook it properly). My husband just took it and walked away before the cook saw him and then he realized it wasn't cooked enough. In Mexico they had grilled lobster everyday by the pool!
The drinks at this hotel really didn't meet our expectations. Although the frozen mixed drinks were good, we never felt a buzz even after drinking many of them. This was okay during the day when it was hot out and they were purely for hydration. Some bartenders made the same drinks slightly different from other bartenders. The next issue was obtaining a mixed drink during dinner. I don't drink wine with my meals which is usually all they offer you here in Punta Cana. The first night I asked for an appletini but it took 3 attempts to get it right. Some of the waitstaff in these specialty restaurants said that I couldn't have that and could only drink wine. It wasn't until the "captain" in the restaurant came over to help me obtain the drink I wanted. My husband wasn't so lucky. He asked numerous times for a golden margarita or a Cadillac margarita but they simply didn't know what he was talking about. In Mexico, each themed restaurant had its own bar inside the restaurant. In Punta Cana all the drinks, with exception of wine, were obtained from the lobby bar, which is why they need very experienced bartenders there. The lobby bar at the Paraiso in Mexico was top notch. The bartenders spoke better English and were very experienced in mixology. Any type of drink you could want, they could make.
The shows at the Grand were pretty good. The rock and roll was the best. They even had motorcycles brought in just for that show. Of course it's not Vegas quality but clearly these people work very hard to bring you very good entertainment.
One thing that I really liked about this resort was that every room had wifi. In Mexico, that was not available in the rooms so you had to go out in the concierge areas for that. Although being on vacation is a break from the real world, it's nice to keep in touch with family and friends from the convenience of our room.
We also took advantage of the free golf. For every 3 days you stay, you get a free round of golf. I don't golf, but my husband does. The course was beautiful and we had a blast. We met some great people from Mexico and even went out a second time with them!
Overall, we had a great time. The Dominican people are so friendly and really go out of their way for you. I wish the communication was a bit better. I know that we are the foreigners in their country but there were so many English speaking guests that it would have been nice if they knew a bit more English. We also noticed that not as many people tipped them as when we were in Mexico. These people work 12 hour days and many times 24 in a row! They always have a smile on their face will do anything for you. We don't know how lucky we are to be able to afford such a wonderful vacation. A little tipping goes a long way.

Room Tip: Request a pool side room on the upper levels so you can see the beach from your balcony.

Where do I start. First time to Punta Cana but the second time staying at an Iberostar Resort. We loved the Iberostar (with the kids) in Riviera Maya, Mexico but the adult only Grand Bavaro topped it.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful and fun. Tommy Tommy, Boom Boom (in the house) were standouts and always showed us a great time. Justo and his backup butler Luis were magnificent and always saw to our every need. Julio was the best at the swim up bar. We ate at every restaurant. I can't remember some of the other staff members names, but we didn't have an unpleasant experience with any of them.

We ate at all of the restaurants, the Italian, Japanese Steak House, Gourmet, Mediterranean and Surf and Turf. The food was excellent. The only mishap was at the Surf and Turf where our steaks were underdone, but they quickly remedied that. We stayed in the 7300 bldg. which was very quiet. Everything was clean and the maid service was great. We stayed Feb 20-24...a quick getaway. Way too short. We met several couples who have stayed there several times before and continue to come back every year...I can see why. We are already planning our next trip there.

The beach was beautiful with plenty of shaded huts. The pool was great too with a lot of cabanas. As with every resort, get up early to save a cabana.

I can't say enough good things about this resort and we can't wait to go back.
