We stayed in Sofitel at the peak season for one week. Altough the hotel and the hotel grounds are very beautiful we were a bit disappointed with our stay in Sofitel. I quess that the stuff is not used to a fully booked hotel and they were partly lost. Another problem could be that we went to Sofitel after TwinPalms in Phuket. TwinPalms was so good that Sofitel seemed to be weaker than it is after TP experience. On the other side to be fair I must say that TP is twice as expensive as Sofitel at the peak season.
Rooms:
We stayed at deluxe with sea view. The rooms are very spacey, but not so beautifully decorated as I am used to other Sofitels. It is very basic. Altough it is a very new hotel the TV is old model and the showers are old style. The colour combination at the bathroom was also not my taste. The room is good size, but has a lot of empty spaces. I had a feeling that it was more thought to put extra beds. The view from the balcony was very beautiful.
Swimmingpool:
Very large. Very clean. It has a seperate kids part which makes it great for the kids and for the ones without kids. The surroundings are very beautiful. The pool is simply great and we enjoyed it a lot. There were always enough towels, but sun beds could be challenge when the hotel is full altough we always found a place.
Beach:
Great for walking. Not good for swimming. You can walk from Sofitel till Sheraton and the way is a joy. Especially during low tide.
Location:
Poor. As said before there is nothing around. This wouldn`t be a problem if the food prices and spa prices were reasonable at the hotel and could be used, but that was absolutely not the case. The best part of the location was a small reaturant a few walk minutes away on the left side: JOS. Fantastic kitchen. You should be patient. The preparation takes time, but the food is DELICIOUS. He also organizes tail boats & laundry. Jos made our week!
Service:
We experienced it to be very poor. It was our worst experience in Thailand in 5 years. It could be due to the peak season and maybe the stuff was over loaded. No idea. Some issues we faced:
1. We joined the Christmas dinner at the Italian restaurant for 1500 THB per person without drinks. This is not cheap for Thailand and you can expect at least a bit good food for this price. The food was absolutely crap! We couldn´t eat the main dish. The lamb was fatty, cold and terribly cooked. We sent it back. We had to wait 20 min. for a Cola and had to order three times. The dessert was not what written in the menü. (or wrong translation to English) We also didn`t/ couldn`t eat the dessert. As we complained we got our Colas free. We had it free anyway because we had welcome drinks as A-Club platinum members! Our Christmas Eve was destroyed.
2. We took advantage of their free ride to Hong Islands. The ride is free, but absolutely poor organized. Altough there was no towel limitation at the pool. There was a towel limitation. One towel per person and this is ridiculous because you need the clean towels much more there as the towels become dirty with sand. In our group some people took extra towels and one couple was there without towels. We gave one of ours and the boat drove back to take towels. We had paid 585 Baht per lunch package. They put the lunch packages without any command at 12:00 noon on the tables under 35 degrees. Under such a heat already at 12:15 Tthe drinks were really warm. Imagine a warm Coal. To spend 4 hours at the Hong island was also not so interesting. With a private tail boat which costed 1500 Baht ( Same price as lunch packs & national park fees at Hong)for the whole day we went to Poda island and Red Stone island and it was much more interesting and large enough to see and snorkel.
3. I always use Sofitel Spa`s, but in Krabi the prices were ridiculous. 90 min. Thai massage is 3900 Baht in a land where it costs 400 to 1000 Baht at the luxury day spas and 250 to 400 Baht at the beaches. Even in TP it was 1200 Baht. As the previous reviewer stated it is really ridiculous. I wanted to use sauna. As I went to the fitness center I learned that I have to inform them before and they need 20 minutes to warm up the sauna. If they have this rule, why don`t they inform about it in their writen materials? I had to drive to Ao Nang to get Spa services.
4. Our bathroom was under water after getting shower. We informed the front desk and asked for maintenance before we left the hotel. As we came after 4 hours the bathroom was still under water! I had to make a scandal, bring front desk manager to the room to show him what was going on so that they did something about it. 5 star service??
5. This was the only hotel in our Thailand trip which charged for Internet. The internet prices were also ridiculous. I quess their strategy is to make low rates to attract clients and to earn money with in site services.
These are some examples altough we spent really minimum time at the hotel. We rent long tail boats from Jos and made great day tours around the islands. We ate outside almost every evening after awful Christmas Eve experience. We even didn`t have breakfast at the hotel. I quess it is a very good hotel for families with kids. Because it has huge kids swimming pool & play area, kids club etc. I would not recommend it as romantic hotel for couples. We will not go back.

This hotel is located in the middle of no where with no beach access.

The only beach area across the road from the hotel looks more like a port. To reach the nearest town a reservation has to be made in advance to use the hotel shuttle for 100 bahts each way and you will need to book your return shuttle in advance a well. Otherwise you can take taxi for about 500 bahts to town.

Hotel is staff is poorly trained compare to other hotels stayed in Thailand in the same class. They seem to be confused many times with simple requests and slow to solve issues.

Tired one of the 3 hours signature spa treatment and it was just ok and nothing special. Just skip and get the spa treatment elsewhere.

Plus is the pool as others have mentioned in review of this hotel. Good if you have kids or just want to stay in and lounge around the pool all day.

I would not pick this hotel next time.

The Hotel is Excellent. The Staff very friendly (the chef remembers the way you like your eggs every morning!! :)). It has an awesome pool ... at least 150 mtrs. in length. The food is great. Definitely a must come. There are some great food joints and bars just outside the hotel too! We've stayed 5 nights & had a super time every single day

We stayed at the Sofitel Krabi for 6 nights in a superior room. The Hotel is beautiful, very new and with a pool to die for (It's the largest in Thailand, has a pool bar, play area, etc) The rooms are spacious and ammenities are great. There are free exercise and fitness activities including Pilates and Yoga, a well equipped gym, childcare facilities, the list is endless and you can see all they have on their web site.
I must mention the Beware bit. It's is extremely expensive to eat or have spa treatment here and there are only a couple of places within walking distance to eat. This hotel is really out of the way, poor location. The cost of the spa treatments compared to anywhere else are rediculous and can't reflect a better service, neither me or my wife used these facilities due to the cost but i doubt a massage is 5-10 times better than elsewhere reflecting the price. We also didn't use the restaurants due to price also, There are some mark ups that i just won't pay for. 2 minutes from the hotel entrance gate there is a restaurant called Simantas and it has excellent food (the Banana pancakes dessert-wow) and proper Thai prices and with excellent service. You can also walk 10 minutes in the opposite direction to the Krabi Beach restaurant which a little bit more expensive than Simantas is worth the visit for their excellent menu. You cn get a hotel minibus to Auo Nang for 200 Baht per person but one visit there is all you really need and the added cost to any evening bill mounts up. Also beware, your not allowed your own food or drinks in the rooms or minibar and the rules state they will confiscate any found and if caught you'll be charged hotel prices for what you eat on site. This really annoys me 1. due to the cost of the hotels food and drinks 2. It's a hot country and you need to drink lots of water (they give you some complimentary water) but you need to drink more - it's a necessity and if i want to have a snack that i bought myself I don't see where the hotel thinks it gets the right to threaten this policy. I was funny to see how many people were "smuggling" food & drink in and hiding it in towels to drink around the pool. We also hid our rubbish in the public bins after a snack in the rooms.
All said and done though it is a great hotel and if you don't mind staying on complex and paying through the teeth and not experiencing the real Thialand then you will cerainly have a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday here. (n.b. book trips in the town as you'll also get a much better deal, learn to count so you can haggle in basic Thai, they'll give you better prices for trying)

this was our last stop before leaving thailand and it was so worth it ! it was amazing from the moment we stepped into the lobby till the time we checked out. the rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated with dark wood furniture, and the bathroom was spectacular too. the grounds are amazing and have all the facilities i'd expect from the Sofitel, catered for all sorts of people from families to honeymooners to older couples. buffet breakfast was fantastic, very large selection and tastes good too. the highlight however, is most definitely the pool. the most awesome pool i've ever seen, it's massive and absolutely beautiful. we easily spent all 3 days sitting by the pool.

On the downside, if you want to leave the resort the location is quite remote. Klong Muang is about 20min drive from Ao Nang, there's not much around here besides other 5 star resorts and the beach across the road isn't the best - similar to Ao Nang. As expected the Sofitel restaurants are expensive. For lunch we ate at the pool bar/restaurant which is quite reasonable but dinner we walked up the road (about 200m) to the restaurant opposite the Krabi Sand Resort, which was lovely and much cheaper. There's a very funky bar also close to here (over a small bridge) which is nice to chill out at after dark which also have cheap food. There's also a shuttle bus service into Ao Nang and return during the day which costs 100 baht/pp, although i think last service is early evening.

Tip: Sofitel offer free day trip to Hong Island which is apparently beautiful. Definitely book ahead, we missed out cause they were booked out days in advance. Otherwise can't go wrong just relaxing by the pool !

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the start of our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. The hotel is beautiful, the room was spacious, the swimming pool was super relaxing, but most of all, it was the attentiveness and genuine warmth of the staff that really made this hotel stand out for us.
We took the minibus to Ao Nong, and although it was interesting enough to visit we were so glad we didn´t stay in the centre and were more than glad to jump back onto the minibus at the end of the evening to get back to the sheer relax of Sofitel.
We would recommend it 100%, we thought it was the best place to start our honeymoon.
