Phulay Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Ranked #1 of 12 Hotels in Nong Thale
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We have visited Thailand many times staying in various 5* excellent hotel. Phulay Bay was a little different both in design and setting. To find a Moorish Fort painted mauve in Krabi came as a bit of a shock to be honest and took a couple of days to come to terms with! 50+ pavilions set in over 50 acres means there is a lot of space and, unless you are a very keen walker, getting around the hotel is mainly by buggy. Our excellent "butler" Am was nearly always immediately on hand to take us to breakfast, the magnificent pool, Spa and one of the three restaurants (Thai, International & Sea Food - our favourite). She looked after us very well indeed. We are in our mid & late 60s and went to enjoy being in the sun during February. The pool is enormous with "cabanas" to lounge on and a good lunch time poolside restaurant. Staff were great and Chi Chi made sure we had a good place to relax. We were there during Chinese New Year and the hotel was full but generally we didn't find it a problem. The only time we had an issue was in the Thai Restaurant when we were kept waiting for 45 minutes before our starter course arrived. Apologies and free wine were given. We went on half board basis. This offered a more limited menu (you could upgrade and pay the difference) but it was better value than a la carte.
We would go again just to enjoy the hotel itself and relax in the sun.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Resort Pavilion which was wonderful. Massive amount of space, enormous bed, great bat...

We had never been to Thailand and wanted a beach holiday that was a bit off the beaten track and was at a very special hotel. Phulay Bay delivered!! Big time!! It was a completely extraordinary experience and worth every penny!! From the moment we arrived at the towering gates until the moment we sadly left, it was a very special experience.

The room we stayed in (villa with pool) was spacious, with the biggest bed I have ever seen. Such a fun novelty. We traveled with our two kids who loved it! They were made to feel very welcome and we were all very pampered, especially by the incredible Yid, our butler. He anticipated every need of every one of us. I have to say, we were genuinely sad to leave him at the end and all of us said we wished we could bring him home with us.

We have been fortunate to stay at some of the top rated hotels in the world. We love Four Seasons, Ritz, etc. but this was better because it was so unique and so beautiful. Be aware there aren't beach sports here or night life at the hotel. But we didn't miss it a bit. We kept plenty busy with island hopping, day excursions, etc. Also, the food was fantastic, spa was wonderful and service was impeccable.

If you want special, this is it!!

Room Tip: Plunge pool villas are amazing!! Large, private and beautiful!!

After our stay at The Pimalai we arrived by private Limo to the Phulay Bay after a short boat journey of aprox 1 hour. We were greeted by the Manager and our Butler and taken to our beautiful room. The place itself is beautiful and the service and standards are exceptional! There is NO beach which I was disappointed about! the rooms are amazing and luxurious we had an inside and outside bath which was a great treat!
The restaurants have a nice choice, the italian was our favorite!, the staff are friendly and obliging but its expensive and so is the alcohol, so we bought some from the local shop which was a lot cheaper and kept it in the mini bar!
We hired a moped to get around on and that was a wonderful experience too, its aprox £3.00 a day to hire and we saw lots of Krabi there is a Restaurant in Ao Nang called Lai Lai well worth a visit.

The baby elephant that goes to the sunset bar every few days is a delight to see!, all in all a wonderful place and a relaxing stay.

A fantastic experience from beginning to end. We were contacted by the staff days before our arrival to start planning our trip. Then met by the manager in the most mystical and gorgeous arrival setting I've ever experienced.
The room (we booked a Beach Villa and were upgraded to a Reserve Pool Villa) is just out of this world: super spacious and full of light and with very nice outdoor areas to relax.
The breakfast selection is great. For dinner we tried the 3 restaurants and although all of them were very good our favourite one was Lae Lai (fish and seafood one). Expect to pay more than anywhere outside the resort (we tried a couple of places in the nearby Ao Nang), but it's worth it.

But what truly made the difference was the staff. Friendly and efficient, always ready to help, nothing was too much to ask. Special thanks to our butler Beet, to Tanny for her magnificent yoga classes and to Ana and Carlos for leading such a wonderful team. This vacation has set a benchmark for us and will be difficult to forget
One piece of advice: know what you are looking for if you come to this part of the world. If you want to relax, rest and to be pampered while enjoying a unique and peaceful site then you are in the right place. If you like fancy, party or shopping then go to Phuket and leave space for those who really appreciate fine service in a relaxed paradise.

We spent our honeymoon in this fantastic hotel. The Villa was amazing and the landscape view was perfect. Everyday we were surprised by small details that really made the difference. The staff is super friendly and committed to excel.. My wife is alergic to gluten and we could see the careful way they handle each meal in order to provide gluten free meals.

Perfect! I would definitely go back!

Room Tip: We stood at the Ocean Villa! A brand new Villa with an ocean front view. We definitely recommend it!

Perfection comes at a price; here the relation matches. Hard to describe this extraordinary resort nestled in a spectacularly beautiful area. Must see to believe. Best trained staff which few hotels in Thailand can match. The rooms must be seen to be believed, the beds are a marvel. Bliss all around. Food offer is varied with the Thai cuisine excelling over the other restaurants. It is difficult to leave this paradise.

Room Tip: If you do not wish to be near the beach but prefer a surround view stay at the Ocean View Pavilion
