Fantastic little hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 19, 2013
We visited the Tubkaak in March 2011 and had a sea view suite. The room was very nice and the outdoor bathroom wonderful.

The food here was the best I had anywhere in Thailand and the soft shell crab salad was incredible.

Massages were also wonderful.

I would thoroughly recommend to anyone who wants a very relaxed holiday as there is not much else to do in the area.

We stayed here 6 nights for our honeymoon and could not wait to check-out. We stayed at two other 4 star hotels in our 2 weeks in Thailand and this was the only one we had a bad experience in.

Pros: Extremely Clean, beautiful property and rooms, nice pool, friendly staff.

Cons: Far away from the main town/shopping area, food for both breakfast and dinner was below average, dinner here is overpriced, there is no entertainment at night, not even on weekends, beach is completely covered with small crabs to a point where you can't look up when walking, loud construction next door from a new hotel being built, no service at pool or beach front (We had to walk to the bar near the restaurant which was not convenient), they also charge you way more than the average price for taxi service or activities. Example: We asked for taxi to Phuket and they wanted $4500 bhat and a normal taxi driver from town only charged us $2300 bhat. You really cant do anything around the hotel because of how far it is so they take advantage of it by overcharging you. They also have a shuttle to town 3 times a week that, of course, you need to pay for.

Overall it was a very disappointing stay and this is definitely not a 4.5 star hotel, this is more of a 3.5 star. Save you money and spend it elsewhere. FYI by our second day we wanted to leave and the manager, Sunny, denied us an early checkout for the reasons we were unhappy. What is even worse is that in front of 2 of his employees made us feel uncomfortable by saying that we would be taking away pay from his staff if he refunded us and keeping our money mattered more to him than our satisfaction. Very unprofessional and he made no attempt to remedy the situation. I will never go back here again and don't recommend it.

Room tip: If you do end up booking, just book the normal room and dont splurge for pool view. The pool view rooms are covered with trees so you dont get a good view anyway. Also, the snacks in the room are not free, they dont tell you that when you check in.

My wife, 13 month old son & I stayed here this week. It's as good as they say it is.
From the moment you arrive until you leave the facilities, staff and location are excellent. Great food was available all the time and the happy hour (5.30-6.30) was perfectly timed to coincide with spectacular sunsets.
The only reason I haven't given 5/5 is that it's very remote; for example you can't walk to any shops however on the flip side it's so good you might not want to leave anyway.
Would stay here again as it was idyllic and the attention my son received was amazing.

Room tip: All the rooms were of high quality (my parents were also visiting so I saw their room) so no specific recommendations.

We love this place! First time here, and we would definitely go back again! We stayed here for 5 great days. First in a Seaview room for 2 nights and moved over to the beatiful (but overpriced) Tubkaak Suite for 3 nights.
Clean and nice rooms (where did you stay goodresearch, it cant be the same resort!)
The beach is clean, nice and relax'ed. No sunbeds here, but bean bags! We love them!
We did not even see the pool (i have seen it on pictures, looks good :)) because of the nice beach.

The staff were nice and friendly, helpful and polite. The manager (Sunny) is mr.helpful and mr.nice himself!

We bought the Honeymoon package and will absolutely recomend that to any other who wants to get married in Thaialand! We had our dream-wedding on the beach, and the staff was amazing! They fixe'd everything and was very helpful.

We love this place and would absolutely recomend this to other travelers. We're going back next winter!

This is a small boutique hotel set far away from noise and busyness of Krabi and AoNang which I appreciated. When I went into Ao Nang I was so pleased I hadn't decided to stay there! The location, the rooms and the general ambience were fabulous. It was perfect for my agenda of really not do very much.

The rooms were really lovely, and I loved the outdoor shower and bath!

As a solo traveller there was not much interaction with guests which was unusual - people very much kept to themselves. Though a chair by the beach, a good book and a cold drink was just great.

It was easy to get to Ao Nang though you did need to book a car via Reception. I generally got a tuk tuk back to the Hotel which was very cheap and fun! Staff were very helpful in helping me select restaurants to go to etc

It was perfect for what I wanted from this holiday.

Room tip: I had a lovely room on the top floor overlooking the pool which provided a lovely view.

Before we want to THailand, we had booked a week at the 5 star Rayavadee, near Krabi. We then read the reviews on this site and decided to change to the Tubkaak as it had better reviews and we usually prefer boutique or smaller resorts.

We made the right decision as the Tubkaak was much better value for money. Our room had everything we needed and had the wow factor with the outside bath and shower. I prefer a softer bed but this is just a personal preference and a small detail.

We met the Manager Sunni who walked around the resort introducing himself and making sure everything was comfortable. On the 2nd time we met him (on the beach) he personally organised some mat things for us as the bean bags were all in use.

The food was excellent and we enjoyed the duo and Thai "Kim" player as we ate our meal. The restaurant service was excellent too, attentive without being intrusive,

We just wanted a relaxing holiday so didn't miss being near the town-although transport was laid on 3 times a week . We didn't miss any entertainment as sitting watching the beautiful sunsets with a cocktail was enough for us.

The beach was lovely-what a place to swim! This was in contrast to the busy beaches of Railay and we loved it.I rarely swim in the sea, but I made an exception here. Due to the hotel's measures I didn't get bitten by mosquitoes like I usually do.

One of the things we liked best was the personal touch, staff who remembered our names or room number and also our preferences-tea and coffee etc. The Staff appeared to be happy and enjoying their jobs and wanting us to have a good time.

We would love to return to this romantic, beautiful place.

Room tip: Room 120 has a bit of a sea view, but is handy for the pool.
