My partner and I stayed there over the Christmas break and wow were we impressed.
We have decided on a relaxing holiday upfront and not a shopping or sight seeing holiday and Nakamanda was perfect for our escape.
I would suggest checking out the website to get a view of the fantastic pool, gardens, villas and a view of the beach that will wow you when you get there.
The staff were incredibly friendly and believe me as someone who lives in the country with the highest service standards (Japan) I am hard to impress. The food was great and yes it is more like international prices, you pay for the service and the quality.
Some people have commented on the english level of the staff, I thought it was fine, it wasnt perfect, but it was resonable and it pays for native english speakers like myself to be a bit patient sometimes.
Another comment is that this is far away from the action, i.e. Ao Nang but again it depends on what you want your holiday to be about. If you want days and days of cheap shopping stay in Ao Nang if you want to sit by the pool, enjoy a nice cocktail and read a book stay here.
I would strongly recommend Nakamanda if you are looking to relax, rejuvinate and escape the world for a few days or more if you are lucky.

Stayed at the Nakamanda for 5 nights in a pool villa. The accommodation was excellant as were the staff. Previous reviwers have commented on the staffs english but I found no problem. They were all helpful and very obliging.

The kitchen restaurant offers good food but at international prices. We also ate in a restaurant across from the hotel called Baan Thai which was incredible value for money.

Like other reviewers we used the laundry service across from the hotel and it was as good as any at home but for a fraction of the price.

For me its the people that make Thailand and until you`ve visited you can`t understand.

Would use the hotel again.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend break at the Nakamanda staying on their 'birthday package deal'. The hotel is great in everyway - clean spacious rooms with great bathrooms. Spa was fantastic .. so good infact i visited it 2 out of the 3 day stay. The beach is very nice and the pool is fantastic in fact we had it all to ourselves for 3 days! with its friendly staff I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing break away from the tourist hustle and bustle and kids clubs of the larger hotels.

We had the staff at the Nakamanda Hotel plan our wedding party for over 40 guests. Each detail was over the top. The beach was lined with at least 200 tiki torches, Orchids were everywhere, thousands of them! In the trees, in the pool, tables, grounds, even spelled out "Happy honeymoon" on our bed. They hired a live band that flew in from Bangkok that was surprisingly good. The food was 5 star! Fresh lobster, crab, shell fish, Thai food at it's best. At the end of the party they lit up these large paper barrels about 1 meter tall That glowed with fire and as they heated, they flew up and over the Andaman sea! About 50 of them! Talk about a dream come true! The honeymoon suite had its own private pool! the staff treated us like we were family. My beautiful wife glowed after spending the afternoon being pampered in their spa. We had our breakfasts served outside each morning sitting under a flowering tree overlooking the sea. They provided all our transportation to and from the airport and whenever and wherever we wanted. We will never forget how wonderful, beautiful, delicious, each detail was.

This is the ideal Krabi boutique hotel for people who don't like chain hotels and want to stay away from the tourist crowd. Only 30-plus rooms here, and therefore, no queues at breakfast and no need to rush for deckchairs. The Nakamanda offers nicely designed, clean suites with very large bathrooms, away from the hustle and bustle of Ao Nang or Krabi town. The flip side is the 30 minute drives by hired car required to get you to "civilisation" once you tire of the beach. The beach itself can only be enjoyed at low tide after 12 pm.

Not all boutique hotels are created alike, and this establishment falls into the middle rather than the higher end of the class.

The devil's in the details as usual: the "villas" are somewhat crammed together in a small plot of land, the fitness room smelled funny, the marquee covering the buffet breakfast on our 2nd day looked old and stained, and no turndown service was instituted during the 2 nights we were there. In addition, there was an alarming full length sliding window in our room which did not lead to a balcony but to a 3 metre drop into the foliage outside. We drew the blinds over that to remind ourselves not to walk out the wrong door.

For those who have stayed at the Datai in Langkawi, you'll feel a sense of deja vu. You'll need to climb stairs, albeit a shorter distance, to descend to the pool/beach, and you'll find the bathrooms with his-and-hers washbasins flanking a large bathtub a familiar design.

Regarding food, since the previous reviews, the hotel seems to have changed its breakfast service from a la carte to buffet-style, so do expect to get up to serve yourself, though eggs can be brought to your table. We did not eat lunch or dinner at The Kitchen, so we can't comment on the overall menu, but the food at breakfast and high tea was average. Instead, we ate twice at the "beach hut" just next to the Sheraton, getting great value for about USD 5 per person for Thai food.

I stayed at the nakamanda with my partner on our way back to Australia from the UK. I had read a lot of reviews on this website and most were pretty accurate. The bungalows at Nakamanda were really quite lovely - very different to your average hotel or villa. There was a large terrace with a day bed overlooking the water (make sure you ask for an ocean view room if possible - these are often located actually back a bit from the beach as they are higher up). The bedroom was large and had a nice, big bed, huge windows (with gorgeous outlook) and a little day bed/window seat along the window. Behind the bedroom was a dressing room area and sinks - 2 sinks, 2 large wardrobes. Behind this was the bathroom which was absolutely stunning. Beautiful deep bath with a skylight and lovely big shower. Really lovely.

The service and staff were really fantastic - very friendly and helpful, although sometimes the language barrier was a little bit of an issue. The beach was very disappointing - to be honest, we only actually went in the water once! The tide goes out really quickly and even if you walk a little bit along to the beaches either side where there is more water, the beaches/water certainly isn't what I expected/have seen in Thailand. The pool was lovely though. We had horrible weather the whole time we were there (only one afternoon of sunshine) but actually ended up extending our stay to 10 nights as we were having such a relaxing time.

The restaurant at Nakamanda was quite good - we had breakfast there each morning. Quite expensive though when compared to local, surrounding restaurants. There were a couple of good ones just outside the front gates of the hotel, and also some great ones if you turn left as you leave Nakamanda and head down the road for about 10 minutes (took us a few days to discover these)! Also a great little place if you head down the beach past the Sheraton. We had a treatment one afternoon at the Nakamanda Spa - it was pricey, but was honestly fantastic and well worthwhile doing. I had a massage, body scrub and wrap and it really was great - better than any treatment I've had in Sydney.

We went to visit the baby elephant that they brought down for her bath every afternoon too - in front of the Sheraton, which was such a treat!

Overall, our stay at Nakamanda was great - although the area did seem a little deserted and because of the weather, we weren't able to do any of the day trips we'd planned. With the beach in front of Nakamanda not being too nice, this was a bit disappointing. But the rooms were quite special and the service was great. A very relaxing and quiet place to go and relax and recharge the batteries.

We decided to opt for Nakamanda after consulting with Tripadvisor. Not withstanding the few negative reviews (most review are EXCELLENT...), and noting that the hotel gave me a good package comprising of 2 nights stay in SALA Villa, 1 x Thai Set Dinner and 2 x 90 mins SPA & return private transfers, this helps sealed our holiday plans to this SLH hotel.

On arrival, we were met and transferred to the hotel in a brand new Toyota Camry. Of course, the welcome drinks order was taken in the car and eventually delivered to our room thereafter.

Much have been said about the wonderful rooms, luxuriously furnished and generous in floor area. There's enough windows to brighten up the whole room during day and there's enough privacy if you decide to lower all the shades. The bathroom cum dressing area is the most impressive of this SALA villa! we were like WOW! Huge bathtub, nice separate basins and dressing area for HIM & HER... and some nice finishings of water plants inside this bath area.

The most impressive was the impeccable service rendered by the staff... attentive and always genuine to please and make your stay a pleasant one... The chef at the only restaurant in Nakamanda, the Kitchen, whipped up Thai dishes that we were so impressed that we spent 2 of our dinners there for the 3 nights that we stayed. We have sampled many good Thai restaurants in Singapore and Bangkok, and this KITCHEN does serve good tasty Thai cuisine comparable to them! Breakfast, included in your rates, is ala carte buffet style... ordering from the breakfast menu and cook to order! (most 5 stars hotels only provide a buffet spread and not cook to order!)

We have also tried the few food outlets right outside the Nakamanda. My Mother's Place is cheap and good for a quick bite serving good thai dishes (but of course not as fine and good as the KITCHEN). The Bann Thai just across the road is good too for a change from the hotel restaurant.

Few negative points:
1. The Engish standard of most staff is not as good as major 5* hotels with the exception of their managers who have good conversational english. But hey! we are on holiday in a foreign land, isn't it time to learn more of Thai's culture and language than complaining that the Thai's don't know your language??? Just speak simple in short sentences and emphasis the key nouns and the staff should be able to understand you.

2. The pillows are too "high" to be of comfort.

3. The room's aircon is not powerful enough, most of the time it hovers at about 25 degC despite me setting it to 18. At night it does gets a bit better to between 23~24 degC

Other than these minor complains... overall i would say that it's a great hotel with great staff.....! Do contact the hotel directly for their packages.. i think they offer better value than most booking websites!
