I really can't understand some of these reviews. We have just visited the Coconut and I came on here to say how good it was, the food was first class and the service was excellent - smiles all round and very efficient.
As for the cost, I think people need to realise that the days of the four course meal in Thailand for 150 Baht is long gone. We had an excellent meal and more than enough drinks for 1400 Baht for two of us, and I was well satisfied.
Ignore the bad reviews and give it a try your self - it is well worth the visit.

visited alone about before 9 pm. The food was served 10 pm. In the meantime, I asked the staffs about the food, they just said to wait without saying sorry. The food was soso, but overpriced compared with quality, cleaness. The worst of it is that the staffs are not kind and terrible!!

the coconut restaurant has seen better days. It is looking a bit tired an uninviting but in the low season there are only a handful of restaurants open. As aprevious reviewer has commented the reviews outside the restaurant are impressive but are dated.
As previously stated we were dining in the low season, although itw as a beautiful day, no other tourists to be seen on the beach or in the restuarant. The prices were not expensive, around 140 160Bht for most dishes. Beer 80 a small and 13o bht for a large bottle. They are around half the cost of the thai food served at the sofitel but no ++! We had 4 dishes. the appetiser for two, which was essentially 5 different deep fried frozen snacks served with a commercial peanut sauce and a chilli sauce. Ok for the hungry. We had a stir fried shrimp, stir fried morning glory and a pork mince dish. All were edible but the ingredients were not fresh and it was bland even for a western palate.
we assumed that in the low season that getting fresh food would be difficult but the next day we dined at the restaurant which is 200 metres n the right going out of the sofitel. The Coconut is 50 metres on the left. It is an easy stroll along the beach or road - no need to pay 300 bht to get to there as a previous reviewer noted unless you have mobility issues. The restaurant to the right is not listed in the nong thale restaurants for tripadvisor but it should be. Even in the low season the ingredients were fresh and the food was very tasty at prices similar to or lower than the Coconut. Beer there is also cheaper. So our recommendation is, if you are after a change from the sofitel at a cheaper price turn right at the gate and stroll up to the Simata? Restaurant. We would rate it a 3 but for the price and location give it a 4.

Me and my husband ordered beef burger and chicken burger there. Price was expensive although it was just a small local restaurant. Each one was 140B and 120B. With only one bite,we could recognize the ingredients were not fresh. Bread was dry and hard like biscuit.Smell from patty was little bit disgusting. We conclude that it's better not to have it more and waste 260B.Because we had a concern that we might would be sick if we have it more. Servers even did not ask why we did not have the meal. They just received our money. I waana say FRESH INGREDIENTS are the most important things in a restaurant.

We had a number of meals here, like others staying at the sofitel resort finding resort food too expensive. The food was always great and service very friendly. we made the mistake of trying around the corner at the German(?) style cafe on our last day... big mistake! Stick with the coconut, and dont forget the deep fried bananas.
