“Bliss on the beach”
Reviewed February 27, 2011

We stayed at A Beach Symphony as part of an amazingly fantastic tour organised by Kerala Connections. Not being a 'beach person' this was a bit of a concession to some of the others in our party (ie the offspring).... but I'm pretty much a convert now! We had a great time here with two large villas between us, both different, both exquisite and one with its own pool. The food was great although being given a choice and individual consultation by the chef every day was taxing; we just wanted to say yes to all options!

A beach symphony is, unsurprisingly, on the beach but isnt in a major resort area and we were warned that there may be some detritus of fishing and local life on the beach. This was barely the case - the beach was cleaner than many english beaches, even in the bits not cleaned by the hotel staff. We had also been warned that there wasnt much to do other than swim and sunbathe. This also wasnt true - we cycled, visited coir making, went to a festival, visited a school, had a massage (me) and facials (them) went on tuk tuk tour of villages and then ran out of time.

Ridiculously luxurious with fantastic staff and a wonderful host with Jan and Cristel, we loved the place.

This resort is located directly in front of the beach and has a wonderful atmosphere. All of the cottages are spacious and beaufully designed. They all have big verandas on the front side, with comfortable sofas and chairs, so most of the people spend their time relaxing there. The meals are also served on your private veranda.

We stayed at Viola cottage. The room was big and the bed was comfortable. At the backside, within the walls, is a small private pool. The shower is also outside and the rest of the bathroom is semi-open.

The food was good and reasonably priced. Although it's written, the menu is actually flexible, so one can order almost anything if doing it in advance.

The staff was very attentive and polite, but there is a space for improvement. They were a bit uncoordinated, so we were sometimes asked about our next meal wishes by three different people. They also forgot to bring us the things we ordered a couple of times or we had to wait for them more than half an hour. This could maybe be improved by assigning one staff member to one or two cottages.

Overall, this is a really beautiful resort and a great place for relaxation.

Four beautiful cottages set in a palm plantation on the beach. The Belgian owners have developed the resort with impeccable taste. Tasty local/European dishes are served at your cottage.
Relaxation in idyllic surroundings is the theme of A Beach Symphony. Complementary yoga session start the day.
The owners help the local school, ask to be taken there as see the god work being done.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel has just 4 rooms, each is a separate lodge. Ours was beautiful, lovely characterful furnishings, a small private pool and an outside shower. All food is served on your private terrace and the chef comes around to see what you want to eat each day. The beach is lovely and the hotel has a large private area just off it with hammocks etc and also a lovely large walled swimming pool. The owner was away when we stayed and the manager (Deepu) was terrific - making sure everything ran smoothly and that we were enjoying our stay.

This place is not cheap but if your budget will stretch to it it is worth every penny.

We were very impressed by the Beach Symphony - it is in a beautiful location, right on a totally unspoilt beach. There are four cottages on the site, and we were lucky enough to have the cottage with its own private plunge pool, which helped to make it a very special stay. The bedroom was large, comfortable and clean, with a wide and comfortable bed. We spent a lot of time on the spacious verandah, where delicious meals were brought to us by cheerful and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and for Jan and Christel, and we were able to relax completely in total comfort.

This is a unique hotel, just four cottages on a plot immediately fronting the beach. We had an absolutely fabulous room (cottage really with nice veranda), with a plunge pool (only in the ‘Violin’ cottage) and open air shower, all totally private. All spotlessly clean, with lots of towels etc. Service is superb, and food excellent. Also good size communal pool.

Reverse osmosis water treatment means the tap and pool water is perfectly safe, and you can also get as much mineral water as you want at no charge.

The hotel has its own beach garden, with hammocks etc. but is right on the beach, which is pretty clean by Indian standards; you can walk for miles on golden sands, with almost no one to be seen bar a few inquisitive local fishermen. Best walk along the waters edge though, as the fishermen are not the most hygienic of beach users.

Hotel quite expensive, but well worth it if you want to chill out, especially at the end of a holiday in India with its ‘full on’ hustle and bustle. Not much beats watching the sun go down over the Arabian Sea, or sipping a beer on your own veranda. The staff are very discreet - always in the background - very friendly and helpful.

The chefs will basically cook whatever you want, using local produce, spicy or not, fish, chicken, vegetarian etc. Beer and wine can be obtained at sensible prices, e.g. Kingfisher at 150 Rs.

Internet (WiFi) is free of charge, and the owner will make his laptop available if you do not have a laptop with you. Bicycles can be borrowed (no charge) and the hotel has a resident tuk-tuk driver to take you around locally, and on short sightseeing trips.

This is a hotel made for couples, if you want lots of company this is not the hotel for you. If you seek peace and quiet, in an idyllic setting, this takes some beating.

This accommodation was recommended by our tour operator, Kerala Connections in the UK. We were very happy with their choice.
