“Beautiful Beach, Wonderful people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of our trip to India. Austin arranged a driver to collect us from the airport.
We arrived at 10am and were shown around. We were also offered breakfast which was wonderful.
We stayed in Austins brothers home stay 200m from the beach as the beachfront villas were full.
Room was very clean. International plugs which make life very easy no adaptor required.
Fan although aircon is a available for extra price.
No wifi although we were offered the use of the families wifi
We ate dinner served by the family down by the beach villas. Traditional Keralan food...without the spice.
Beach is spectacular so quiet beautiful white sands! Matts are available to use on the beach to lie on and refreshments available from the family (water, cola, beer)
This is a place to come to get away from it all. There are only one or 2 places to stay nearby so it is really very quiet.

Intention was to stay for 2 nights, ended up staying for 7 nights, excellent Kerala breakfast and a nice dinner at night time, relaxed not to have to study a menu card! Compliments to Austin and Jasmine to feel at home. Rooms are simple and will be cleaned on demand, Location is fine to make day trips to Backwater area, Cochin and Allepey, no reason to find a hotel in these places.

Room Tip: ground floor more space to sit out

Easily our favourite place in Kerala, we stumbled on this gem while trying to avoid the overpriced local hotels. We stayed in a beachfront room (a must), with a view from our bed and balcony straight onto the sea. The rooms are very basic, but clean with good sized bathrooms and hot water. Austin is a lovely host, attentive and kind, and we enjoyed such delicious home cooked food we did not feel the need to go anywhere else. The beach was near on deserted, perhaps due to the initially scary waves in the sea, which although temperamental, were safer than Varkala and easy enough to be negotiated and much enjoyed by anyone reasonably agile! We can’t recommend this place enough, but hope it stays a bit of a secret!

Stayed three nights with Austin and Jasmine in a sea facing room with balcony on this lovely unspoiled beach. Fishermen just below would quietly prepare their nets and unload their early morning or evening catch, while their children played cricket. The waves would roll in beyond and we could watch the sun settling through the palm trees. The palmwine tapster would pass daily climbing the high tree next to our balcony..... Amazing.
As for the welcome and attention of Austin and Jasmin we cannot rate them high enough. Everything was perfect and each breakfast and evening meal a true delight discovering the savours and fish varieties of the région.
Austin kindly drove us to Cochin airport at 3 am for our 6h30 flight.... He could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We truly felt at home and very comfortable.
The rooms are basic and lack hanging space and facilities for clothes but we obviously had far too many!

Room Tip: I prefered the upper rooms with balcony views of the beach.

We stayed here for four nights and we had a wonderful, relaxing time. The beach villas are at the back of the beach - you couldn't get any closer to the sea. It is a perfect place for an early morning swim and then a lovely breakfast - the breakfast (and all meals) are prepared by Jasim, Austin's wife, and she is a very, very good cook. We never ate the same thing twice while we were there.

The rooms are fairly simple with nice bed and mosquito nets - also a nice shower with hot water.

A really good place to relax and watch the world go by. Austin and Jasmin are very helpful and give good advice about where to go. Austin also arranged a driver for us to go to Kochi.

Marari Beach is a beautiful, undeveloped stretch of quiet sands and crashing surf. Austin's place seems to be the best mid-range option around there.

The villa is ideally situated, just a stone's throw from sea and a 30 second walk through a palm grove to the beach itself.

It's size (5 rooms max) make it feel a million miles away from the rest of the world. Our room on the first floor, along with all the rooms for that matter l, had a balcony/terrace area looking out towards the sea (great for sunsets). Rooms were clean and simple, though being so close to the beach, sand seemed to follow us around constantly.

Breakfast and dinner were served as traditional Indian fare, with just a veg or non-veg option. It was lovely to try new dishes, though after a few days of Indian breakfasts we were starting to crave something more simple such as porridge or toast.

The beach was almost deserted, except for the odd holiday maker and the various fishing communities along the coast. After our first early morning run, we realised that the local fisherman, rather than simply admiring the view, were actually answering natures call on the beach, which was kind of off putting, though accept this has probably been going on here for thousands of years previously.

Overall our stay was a marvellous escape from the modern world and our hosts hospitality was top class!

Great little place on a spectacular beach and makes a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Kerala. Austin and his staff are unbelievably friendly with great smiles and really went out of their way to welcome all guests. Food was also really nice and clean and the room was basic but probably the cleanest place we stayed in Kerala and we finally got a good nights sleep! We walked down the beach to the other Marari Villas place that is a lot more expensive and it didn't look quite as fun although it isn't a homestay so probably not designed to be as personal. Grab a couple of plastic chairs and an icey Kingfisher and walk 30 seconds from your room to the beach for sunset!
