I spent a few fabulous days at Palm Villa. The location and facilities are wonderful. The local vegetarian dishes from the varied menu were delicious as was the feast served on a banana leaf on our last evening. The staff were all excellent and made our holiday very special indeed.

This was our last port of call on a fantastic tour of Kerala. We stayed for five nights in the Orchid Villa and couldn't have asked for a better and more relaxing end to our holiday. The villa itself was light, airy and had everything we needed including sunscreen, insect repellent, a torch, mobile phone to take out with us and many other useful extras. The bed was absolutely beautiful with hibiscus flowers laid on it everyday. Complimentary water was available each day and the fridge was full of reasonably prices drinks; wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks. Our private pool was well maintained and big enough to swim in with comfortable loungers and even a hammock. Shan looked after us during our stay and was on hand to help with any problem, answer questions and provide us with every comfort. Nothing was too much trouble and he was always cheerful, polite and discrete. Our delicious, reasonably priced meals were served by our pool with ample choice of both indian and european dishes; orders were taken in the morning so everything could be freshly prepared and was served at exactly the time we requested. Breakfast kept us going for almost all day! Notice was taken of our preferences and meals provided accordingly. The beach was about five minutes walk past local homes with many birds (a woodpecker could be woken by knocking on his tree!!, kites were forever over head) and things to see. Private loungers and hammocks were on the beach and drinks could be ordered from there. The sea was fairly rough but incredibly warm; the trick was to dash in before the waves came and go beyond the area where they were braking. No other tourists were about and it was fascinating to watch local children play, fishing boats at sea and crabs running into their holes! Whilst returning from the beach one day I was privileged to be invited into a young boys home and was given a banana and drink by his parents, it was an honour to experience such genuine hospitality.
We borrowed the villa bikes for two mornings and really enjoyed exploring local life, bargain hunting in the small shops and just appreciating India! Everyone waved as you passed and had a smile on their face. Beware of the buses! On our last morning I was shown the local tuition centre by the teacher who was passionate about his charges. Local children attend before and after school in very basic buildings in much need of repair, but their ambition and enthusiasm for learning is huge and their acceptance of the conditions quite humbling. They are in great need of financial support which is being organised by Rupert and Olga, the very efficient, friendly, helpful managers of Marari Villas.
We would like to thank everyone involved in making our stay so special.

Room Tip: Orchid villa is light, modern and airy, Hibiscus is more traditionally built.

We had the opportunity to sample both sorts of accommodation in this lovely location. We spent the first night in a Palm Villa room which was right on the beach. The room was beautifully decorated and Rupert and Olga had thought of everything one might possibly need. The beach was quiet and unspoilt. The second night we moved to the Orchard Villa and this was superb. I loved having a private pool and to eat in our own little garden was a joy. The food was delicious and I just wish we could have stayed longer. Hopefully 1 day we will go back.

Wonderful private villa; really well designed and the service was first class. Food was delicious and the beach, which is 10 minutes walk is very unspoilt. All the staff are really friendly. I would recommend Marari Villas to anyone putting together a trip to Kerela; for either a couple of days, or longer

We stayed in Marari Villas in the Hibiscus cottage for a week at the beginning of our trip around Kerala with our two daughters (ages 8 and 11 years). First, before we even arrived Olga was so amazingly helpful with all her advice and help about planning the rest of our trip. We arrived in the middle of the night into the lush forest where the lovely villas are and fell straight into very comfortable beds. We woke to see the beautiful bright lush green gardens and the pool and the surrounding forests and ate a delicious breakfast. The food at Marari will never be forgotten - it was totally fantastic. Shan was perfect, kind, and impeccable - couldn't have been more helpful and lovely. The gorgeous walk to the stunning wild tropical beach was beautiful. We had a brilliant time here. All the staff were perfect, the trips they helped us organise were amazing - especially to the temples and to the elephant camp. Olga, Shan and Benjamin were so kind and sweet getting our daughters easter eggs and eggs to paint and decorate. That was just such a thoughtful and perfect thing to do. Benjamin was great and very nice with our daughters. This is a beautiful idyllic place, unspoilt, lush, green, amazing beach, amazing to be in this little village with no tourists or touristic development, and to feel totally relaxed, very well looked after, best food in the world, great pool (much needed and perfect for kids). We loved every minute of this stay. Mosquitoes are everywhere at the time of year we visited (april) and weather intensely hot. But there is shade and the pool to cool off and Shan was great in making sure the repellent coils were always lit at every meal. Don't miss out on the fantastic south Indian breakfasts. This is a prefect place for families as you have big garden, lots of outdoor space and the pool as well as the beach. Thank you to all at Marari, we had the best holiday ever and the best introduction to Kerala one could hope for! A special thanks to Olga for the time and energy she took helping us with some details in the later bit of our trip - we are so grateful!

Room Tip: All rooms great.

We spent 8 days in Kerala last week out of which 3 days in Marari Villas. Location, location, location - A long strip of sandy beach, Coconut trees, fishermen, sea with warm water, we did not expect more but there was... The villas are designed so homy, and we could see the blue water from every angle of the room. Surej took care of us for 3 days and arranged for the backwaters cruize from Allepy, taxi back to Kochi, etc...We strolled with the bikes around, walked along the beach, read books...and enjoyed every minute. We sent many pictures home, now the whole family wants to come...

We spent a week in Orchid Cottage following a two week tour of Rajasthan. It was exactly what we wanted - a week of total relaxation. The staff are wonderful and really took good care of us. We loved having our own pool and swam several times a day.
The beach is absolutely beautiful and was usually deserted except for the occasional fishermen. Its a short, pleasant walk from the cottage. Walking on the beach at certain times of the day was spoilt by the toilet habits of the older fishermen but this is something that they've being doing for centuries and I doubt if this will change in the near future. We tended to walk at the top of the beach in the morning and by the sea edge once it had been washed by the tide.
The food was excellent and reasonably priced and each evening there was a choice of one meat, one fish or one veggie Indian course or a range of continental meals such as pasta or fish and chips. The fridge was well stocked with drinks which again were reasonably priced. A local shop also sells drinks if you want to support the local economy.
Shan our host was helpful in booking tuk tuks and advising on trips to town or further afield and the mobile phone in the cottage had his number programmed in just in case we needed a ride home or got lost.
If you're looking for nightlife or the company of other holidaymakers then this won't be for you but if you want quality accommodation, excellent customer service and peaceful privacy, then this is perfect. We will certainly return if we go back to India and would definitely recommend it, though next time we would take a few DVDs and Scrabble.
