We stayed at the Marari Beach Resort for 2 nights in January 2013. The resort was a great spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the other areas we stayed in, and we greatly enjoyed the morning yoga, the music lesson, the evening meditation and the cooking demonstration. What I didn't love was the lack of Indian/Keralan culture aside from the aforementioned activities. The food was not made to typical South Indian standard, but rather to foreign palates as there was little "heat" to any dishes. The breakfast buffet was plentiful but nothing was fantastic. Lunch menu at the restaurant was exactly the same as the dinner menu and the grill/poolside offerings were all western style and lack-lustre at that. The buffet dinner was terribly expensive, as was the available wine. The Seer Fish Vattichadu off the a la carte menu was fantastic, though, and I recommend everyone try it!
The grounds were simple but pretty, well maintained and very clean. The lawn mowing cow tied up next to a different villa each day was a great thing to see, and was a friendly cow who enjoyed being pet and gave loving licks in return!
Unfortunately, there was no option for shade on the beach (unbearable in 38c weather) and so the poolside was loud and chaises often unavailable. Hammocks and beach chairs were available on the grass between the pool and the beach, although they offered limited views/sounds of the ocean.
The staff was extremely friendly and always smiling. The efficiency of booking excursions and transfers was fantastic, and our only issue was that the wifi was sporatic anywhere on the resort aside from the main desk. The villa was nicely laid out, the outdoor (enclosed) bathroom was an interesting feature, and the fresh jasmine flowers left on the bed at turndown smelled lovely.
We partook in services at the Ayurvedic Centre, namely a head massage and a deluxe facial. Neither my husband or I enjoyed the head massage at all, as it was not relaxing sitting on a wooden stool for 30 minutes and we felt no therapeutic benefits. My facial was very nice (especially the strawberry scrub!) and my skin looked and felt great afterwards.
All in all we had a nice stay at this resort, but the price was steep and more than 2 days would get boring.

We have spent the last three days at Marari Beach. It is the ideal way to round off an excellent first visit to Kerela.

The hotel has extensive and very well looked after grounds. There is plenty of room and in no way could you feel that the guests are on top of each other. The pool is superb, the beach very nice (although the sea is rough with a strong under current). The beach looks very clean, however it is well know that it is used as a toilet by the local fisherman! Watch we're you put your feet!

The food and facilities are excellent and the staff are very courteous and helpful. The only minor criticism is the the WiFi network does not extend as far as the rooms, so getting emails, web etc means a lengthy walk to the reception area!

This eco-minded resort is nicely situated on the ocean with other swimming options available (a large main pool that would be good for lap swimming). The grounds are quite large - lots of open space between the buildings and the beach, so it can be a bit of a hike if your room is at the front of the property like ours was. Attention was made to the vegetation - labelling what was growing and using natural methods for keeping ground cover in check (squad of goats got staked to their own spaces...and a couple of cows were on the property doing the same). We were there for one night during Diwali week and found the property to be quite quiet. The large, wide clean beach was largely deserted. We went for a swim and found it to be quite rough entering/exiting. You have to time it well - between the larger waves. The water was as warm as bath water and saltier than what we were used to.

We were lucky to get one of the pool villas - our own separate villa with our own private pool. Fantastic setup. Loungers in the sunshine, private swimming, villa with sitting area, mini fridge, coffee / tea setup and an outdoor bathroom with really nice rain-style shower. These villas are the furthest from everything - very private...but they are near the edge of the property, so they have a security guard nearby in the evenings (kinda spooked us returning to our villa in the evening). We ate 3 meals in the main restaurant and all had excellent buffet choices. For dinner entertainment we were treated to a local flute and drum (tambala) duo - we liked their music so much we bought their CDs. The staff everywhere were friendly and welcoming and the table staff were very attentive - down to serving/frothing the excellent local south Indian coffee at breakfast.

This property provided all the amenities you could want but in a more raw environment as compared to our experience at the luxurious Kumarakom Lake Resort. Since we didn't have any service issues, I'd say Marari Beach experience was better.

Room Tip: The pool villas have the best room amenities. But they are the furthest from the beach.

We enjoyed our stay here in this beautiful and tranquil resort, it is the perfect place to chill out and feel you're getting away from it all. The resort is located on Marari beach - with soft palm fringed sands, it is picture postcard stuff which is as yet unspoilt by the big chain hotels.

The resort is well-equipped with a range of facilities including tennis, badminton, yoga and beach volley ball. The highlight is the 25m swimming pool.

The villas are spacious, clean and well-designed. Each is sufficiently spaced apart to afford a certain amount of privacy. However, the furnishings inside could do with some modernising - the cane furniture looks dated although I'm sure it is grown and manufactured in the local area. There is no TV in each villa, only a communal TV room.

My main gripe is the food. With the exception of the excellent seafood, it simply doesn't match the quality of the remainder of the resort. The a la carte menu needs updating and improving. I quite often felt bored by the lack of decent vegetarian choices in particular - both Indian and non-Indian. Rather than lower the restaurant prices, I'd rather they revamped the menu so that meals formed the best rather than worst part of our stay here.

Staff are generally polite and friendly throughout the resort - even though service can be a little slow in the restaurant.

Overall impression is that this is a good quality resort, although it  would benefit from some modernising in places so that it retains its position relative to its competitors.

this lovely resort brings you ...a bored worked out fatigued city dweller very refreshingly close to the nature. We understood the import of open to air bathing spaces and absolutely village style rooms full of luxury only after some time. the fact that the resort produces its own electricity from biogas to power the bulbs and the chef ready to teach and help you in do your own cooking were some eyeopeners, besides the butterfly parks, birds and so much more.
The sea crashing on the beach while you loll around or read a book on a hammock strung across coconut trees is sooo refreshing . the food was great with the chef even asking us what we prefer in buffet was a nice gesture. A stay for value for money. awesome!

Room Tip: the huts closer to the sea are better. facilities are the same in all rooms.
