“BAD BATHROOMS”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2013

This is less than a 3 star! The food was good, good variety. Our room was HORRIBLE, the bathroom was old, mold, bugs, dirty, broken, rusted. The room was 2 beds, a chair, a tv. No art or mirror on the wall. The sliding doors had a weird homemade locking system. The maids were always just coming into our room, there is no inside lock for the main door. It was very VERY loud in the middle of the night when all the drunk people came home. There is a huge eco and the doors slam very loud all night. We asked to change rooms, but he showed me another room, they were all the same. I would NEVER go back to this resort. We had 2 toddlers with us. You have to pay to use the umbrellas on the beach, even though it is all included. The location is nice, the beach is nice but the water is rough. There were many many European men there with local girls for the week. It was really strange!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same

Just came back from Sosua. Was very happy to have some food back in Canada. Food in the resort was awful. Never experienced so many stomach problems.

Positives: setting of the hotel is very nice and there was a beach.
Negatives: we had mice in the room that left a lot of discharge in our luggage and destroyed snacks and souvenirs. We found big cockroaches in our room on few occasions, which wasn't too bad. Having ants and other bugs can be considered normal. At least not as bad as mice. The hotel stuff decided to do fumigation of our room and the whole building. They just dropped the notice, but haven't instructed how much time is required to stay away from the room. From experience in property management, my understanding is that fumigations require vacant property for at least 24 hours, but for sure 2 days. Not even bringing children into the picture. Balcony door and closet door didn't slide. To open and close a lot of force had to be used. Lack of warm water, and sometimes we were barely getting any water. To get toilet unplugged takes few attempts talking to different staff. Few times our key demagnetized. Once it took 6 attempts walking to the reception to get someone to determine the battery has to be changed at the door.
Food: this was the first hotel we found challenging to find something to survive the stay. Couple people in our party got sick. Very awful food. Plus doesn't seem to be very clean as we found bugs in the foods on few occasions.
We never wrote any reviews before, but we are planning to file a formal complain to Westjet Vacation, the supplier of this vacation, and Merlin Travel as the vendor of this vacation. We were travelling with 3 kids, and convinced our friends to go with us, but just on the first night we observed prostitutes on the hotel's grounds. At some point we had 2 prostitutes knocking on our door. This hotel doesn't have any respect for families, and yet packages are offered to families such as ours.

...And whoever posts positive reviews about the hotel is misrepresenting the truth.

Room Tip: go to a different hotel

Stayed here with the team that I was travelling with to play some softball against the local talent there. Good time was had by all. The grounds are clean and very nice. Would say they are 5 star. The food I tended to stay with what was cooked in front of me. So for the week it was omelettes for breakfast and pasta for lunch and dinner. The staff was very courteous to us all and even went the extra keeping the restaurants open for us after late games.

The hotel is in the middle of Sosua which allowed us a lot of roaming in and out of bars. All in all was a great stay and going back in a month. Starting left bench for not Team Canada Baseball.

Just came back from a week at the Casa Marina and the only complaint is that our stay wasn't long enough there. Great service at the front desk - amazes me how the go from Spanish to German to English and also from Euros to US$ to DR pesos without missing a beat. Thanks to Pablo (out front) for all his help and advise on getting taxis, where and when to go or not go. The staff at the buffet were always smilling - even while they are scurrying around collecting plates or bringing drinks to our table. You guys and girls deserve a special mention for all your hard work day after day! Our room 2557 had a great ocen view so not sure what some of the reviewers meant when they say "no ocean view". hell we had two balconies in our corner room - it was fantastic!
The pools - the beaches at both ends, the staff at the bars, all were EXELLENT. Didn't notice "the rowdy locals" and we wre there over the weekend- locals yes, rowdy certainly not! My wife and myself were apprehensive about going after reading all the negative comments. After actually going there all I can say is "can't wait to visit again!" this is a great place to stay and the price only made it even better!

Room Tip: Room 2557 is a corner room away from the pools (and the noise?) with two balconies and a great ocean...

Last year a ball team from Ontario Canada, stayed at the Casa Marina reef hotel. We had a great tip, the staff was very accomendating to our needs. Very professional manner, the Food was good, the landscape was 5 star. After late games, the staff did their best to keep certain restaurants open for us to eat. The location in the heart of sousa, gave us opportunities to mingle with the local people there, walking to certain bars AND pubs owned by Canadians.
We are heading back there this year January 18-25......Looking forward to playing some good ball, beach, drinks and great hospitality you can only find at .....The Casa Marina!

Casa Marina Beach resort was a great Vacation spot....Budget friendly good bang for your dollar.
Now with all this said :;Let us start with the Positives....

Pools excellent well maintained....
Grounds clean and well kept...
Close to the town of Sosua well within walking distance
Reception friendly and helpful
maid service is great
Dominicans FOR THE MOST PART FRIENDLY AND OFFER HELP TO YOU FOR A PRICE NOTHING IS FREE IF YOU WANT TO FIND OUT SOMETHING.
Now the Negatives..

Rooms are old and need to be renovated
On a a scale of 1 to 10 the food is a paltry 3
if you want hot and fresh go to the pasta station bar they make it right in front of you
the fish and chicken is also good
The morning buffet leaves a lot to be desired scrabbled eggs are a joke wet and cold.... bacon cooked with a torch burned The omelet guy is your best bet.....
in closing
We did have GREAT Vacation there and would we go back??????? Yes but this time we would know about a few things to avoid....
ps;
When your in Sosua Check out the Jolly Roger Pirate bar....Kelly and Patty are wonderful hosts great food and super nice people

I have been going to casa marina EVERY MONTH for the last 2.5 years, and I wouldn't go to any other hotel. Everyone is so accommodating there- the staff are friendly and go above and beyond to give you the best care and service. The animators work hard, up to 14 hours a day to provide games and shows for all ages. On top of that, casa marina has now started a whole new lunch menu with make your own sandwiches to allow for a variety of foods between lunch time and dinner time. The buffet has a wide variety of food to eat, and the beach is right at the resort. You will never have a dull moment, and the energy in the hotel is beyond amazing. You can make lifelong friends at the hotel, as I have done. Please visit- you won't regret it!

Room Tip: All rooms are kept tidy and neat as they have a wonderful cleaning service.
