“Excellent dive shop, so why only a '3 out of 5' rating?”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

Very nice, very professional staff.

Two-tank dive cost us $100 USD.

First dive was 65 ft. Could have gone MUCH deeper, but our dive master "doesn't like to go deeper than 65'," so make sure the dive you'll be making is the dive you'll be happy with BEFORE you book the dive. They took us to the dive location, we hit the bottom, and dove around in a relatively BLAND location - not much color, not much to see, not very many fish at all. Our dive master took us RIGHT TO THE EDGE OF THE WALL, but wouldn't take us over the edge - very disappointed.

Our second dive location was Coral Gardens. At it's deepest point, it was 51'. At it's shallowest, it was about 10-15'. THIS location, however was MUCH better than the first, and I'd guess you could waste a WHOLE day on THIS dive site alone :o)

From what I have been told, EVERY dive shop in Sosua dives all the same dive sites. It appears as though EVERY dive shop in the area uses the SAME type UNCOVERED fishing-skiff boats.

If you're going to plan on diving while in Sosua/Caberete area, find a shop that is manned WHILE you are there, as we tried booking a dive with three other shops before we got to these guys. To most, this may not seem like a big deal, but we found it was quite easy communicate via email with the dive shops, and then when you show up to book your dive, NOBODY IS THERE. These guys had someone in their dive center EVERY time we showed up.

Can't say anything 'bad' about this shop as a whole, but as I said before, next time we dive with them, we'll be a bit more 'clarifying' in our expectations. I KNOW there is good stuff underwater just waiting to be seen, and I know these guys can get you there - I just wanna be on the boat when it gets there :o)

To Mike (the owner):
Biggest disappointment about diving in Sosua??? There is not a single vendor OR dive shop that has any 'cool' dive t-shirts. Are you LISTENING Mike??? Get some DIVE t-shirts that have more than just your tiny logo on the front. Get some with simple, NICE, dive-related graphics. You could retire on the revenue you'd generate. I spoke to LOTS of divers that all said the same thing :o) Divers spend GOOD money on the experience, and want t-shirts that show off their diving experience :o)

“Very professionally-run and super-friendly business!”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

Just came back from a 7-day all-inclusive trip to Sosua, Dominican Republic. We stayed at the Casa Marina Resort.

This dive shop is a 5-minute walk from the resort. It is owned and run by Mike who's a very knowledgeable and down-to-earth kindo guy. He has some amazing staff working for him and the shop overall has a very positive vibe to it. The prices are very competitive and even more so if you consider that occasionally you'll get a private boat and dive-master if no one else signs up for diving that day. Mike promised that there'll be a boat leaving for the reef whether there are other people joining or not and he really keeps his word!

My dive-master, Alejandro, was very professional and fun-to-be-around. The reefs in the area are beautiful and the aquatic life is plentiful. In only 4 days I saw huge sponge coral, crabs, lobsters, lion fish, peacock flounder fish, porcupine pufferfish, trumpet fish, small eels, and a big snake eel. We also got to swim through some beautiful caverns. Alejandro works hard to keep divers entertained and pokes around to show you what lurks in the shadows.

Overall it was a very positive experience. I'll definitely be coming back if I'm in the area again!

“Fun and Professional Organization”
Reviewed March 27, 2014 via mobile

I arranged a couple of days of diving for 8 people and everything went off without a hitch. We did a couple great dives at DuDu caverns with its zip line ending with a 30' drop into the caverns lake. The local lunch was fantastic. Dive guides Luke and John did a great job entertaining and guiding the group all day. We ended the day with a relaxing night dive. Michael, the owner threw in a boat service to an outer dive site when he saw the experience level of our divers. The second day we opted for the full day trip to Paradise Island. The diving was very nice lead by Spyro and Michela. The meals on the full day trip were fantastic from homemade pancakes at a B&B on route to seafood specialties at a local establishment on the return. Transportation was always prompt, professional and first class. I would highly recommend Northern Coast Aquasports for all your diving needs in the Dominican Republic.

“Scuba experience”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

We were staying in Caberate when we contacted North Coast via Email. They were very responsive and flexible for our needs a a big group. Mike, a very nice guy from Queens, and his staff organized a group scuba dive for a group of 12 including both beginners and experienced swimmers. The trip included pick up and return to and from our hotel, an amazing lunch, some diving instruction and briefing, and two dives at different locations with guides.

Throughout the experience the staff was extremely friendly and fun to talk to. The guides were knowledgable and identified many of the fish and other animals that could be seen in the reefs. Our group was all from the US, and the entire staff spoke perfect english as well as many other languages. I believe the guides we were with that day were Italians that had moved to the DR to work.

Overall our day with North Coast was one of the more fun experiences that we had in the Dominican Republic!

“Family dive trip”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

We did the afternoon dive so two of our group could trian for the recreational dive while we did the first dive. The dive masters were very friendly and the dive in the harbor was very nice and relaxing. The second dive was made for the new divers but still nice enough for experienced divers. Micheal was very, very friendly, professional and helpful. We had accidentally left a camera behind with money in the case and it was all there when we found where it was. Boats were a little dated only down side but staff more than made up for it.
