Description: Located on the main street of Cabarete, Ahorita Pasta & Pizza is a one-of-a-kind restaurant. Ahorita is a large, open space, with high ceilings meant to give diners a relaxed and comfortable experience. Pizzas are handmade right in front of guests, complete with pizza tossing, before being slipped into a handmade wood fire brick oven. Clients are often treated to the musical stylings of owner and staff with live music ranging from romantic Italian ballads to Bob Marley to Bachata.

I have been to this place several times and had been very satisfied, till last night 10/12/12 when a couple, a tall man and a frizzy haired woman walked off the street and were a let into the area were the pizza oven is to warm up their hands. I found that to be very unsanitary.

“Best Pizza in Cabarete”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

Ahorita Pasta & Pizza has been opened not even a week and we have eaten there twice. First off, we find it is the best pizza in town. So far we have had the Hawaiian, Margarita, Eggplant and Zucchini, and Pepperoni pizzas—all wood-fired. They had thin-thin crust and an excellent local mozzarella cheese from grass-fed cows' milk.

We also had the vegetarian lasagna (also wood-fired) made with crepe-thin pasta at only a 185 pesos. I had seconds. Damn good. All made by chefs Marti and Samuel from Sicily, so they know good southern Italian food. I do not know what brand the house red wine was, but it was good.

You can sit outside or in. Even if you sit inside, the place is so big and the ceiling so high, you do are not aware you are inside. It has a pool table and local art is displayed on the walls. Unlike a lot of restaurants in Cabarete, it has plenty of free parking in front and in back.

The owner, Gaetano, also Sicilian, has hired a courteous and capable front-house staff as well. He owned or managed restaurants in Spain and in the Dominican Republic. His first in Cabarete was Maribu, on a dune overlooking the beach and ocean where Caricol used to be and Millennium is now. The second he managed was the restaurant at Sea Horse Ranch . . . so he has an established reputation.

Ahorita Pasta & Pizza is located three buildings east of the Callejon.

I don't go out to eat often, but this is gonna be one of my spots. Atmosphere is casual, so come as you are, even if it is a wet bathing suit, bare feet and sandy hair.

Prediction: This place will prove that you do not have to be on the beach to be popular.

Hey, are you from America or Canada? You can smoke at the table.
