I was in Cabarete in January for the great kitesurfing. We had stayed at the Azzurro Club down the beach in 2004 and found the Tangerine to be a nice step up in quality. The food was good, the room (beach-view) was nice, the entertainment was decent, and the beach was great.
The only thing that was a hassle was the timeshare salespeople on the first two days. Just say no consistently and firmly though and they'll leave you alone after a day or two so you can enjoy the rest of the week.
I just had to write a review after reading the last post by the woman from New York. Being a Canadian with "low standards" as she says, I found it to be a great hotel. :) All I know, is that setting your standards unrealistically high is a great way to be dissapointed. Life is too short to waste a vacation complaining about everything.
