The landscaping is nice and on the outside is very nice but the inside is horrible. The food and even the drinks were horrible. I don't recommend this place at all. The things I saw in the dining hall are too much to describe, just know it is very unsanitary. I stayted at this resort from 10/17-21/12 and have no desire to go back. Most of the staff could not understand English, but they did try to be helpful. The bartenders were nasty. One highlight, the guys in the Italian restaurant were very nice and went out of their way to accomodate us. I highly recommend that. They really need to improve this place 100% top to bottom.

My wife and I stayed Feb. 28th. to Mar.5th. 2012 .
We only one small problem with our room and that was taken care of next morning. All the staff were very curtious, helpfull, & allways very cheerfull. Our room very well taken care of by the cleaning ladies. The grounds are very beautiful & well taken care of. you never see anything laying around , if there is it's picked up right away. No staff member ever walks by it. The food was execelent. The drinks were great. The beach is wonderfull. The managment took very good care of all any concerns nomatter how small. We would rate this hotel a 4 Star not 3 1/2 & recomend this hotel to everone. We've already taken our holiday for 2013 but were very disappointed. We will be returnig to the Wyndham for our 2014 holiday happily. Israel & marie Ottawa On. Canada

Just spend 3 weeks at the Viva Tangerine and it was a good experience. The staff is very friendly
lots of activities going on with the animation team. all in all it was a grat experience for me. I would not hesitate to go back. The only drawback for me is that the free internet access is only at the front desk reception. Otherwise you have to pay for it if you want access in your room. If you do pay, just make sure that you are not limited eg: 25 hours had to be used within 6 days. I find that is not right. I was there for 21 days and I would have liked to have those hours for the time I was there.

We arrived on Sunday, February 24th for a one week vacation. And guess what ..... we had a GREAT time ! We would call ourselves low maintenance people, give us a clean room, good food and a nice beach and we're happy. We knew we were going to a 3 star hotel, so we kept our expectations in line. The Viva Wyndham Tangerine met most of our expectations, so much so, that we might bring the entire family next year.

The hotel grounds were beautiful, flowering tropical plants, swaying palm trees, and the turtle pond all gave that luxurious feeling. The pathways to all the buildings were well lit. When we originally booked the vacation, we asked for a pool or ocean view room, and we got it. The pool which was located right beside the beach was cleaned everyday. And the beach .... well, it's to die for. My wife went running on the beach and loved it, especially when she was joined by a group of horses (there's a large ranch nearby).

Our room served our purpose quite well. It had 2 queen beds and was cleaned everyday. Our TV wasn't a flatscreen, but we didn't go to paradise to watch TV. There was plenty of hot water for showers. We would have preferred to have a bigger balcony, ours was the size of a bathtub. It seemed everyone had much bigger balconies than us, but we were located right in the center of everything, next to the pool, beach, buffet and bar so we decided not to ask to be moved.

We were so happy with the buffet, we never tried the a-la-carte restaurants. Most of the buffet food was very good. One night they had a roasted pig, it was soooo delicious, very moist and tender. I ate different types of fish most nights, which was a real treat. And I have to say, the brocoli au gratin was absolutely delicious. And the ice cream ..... oh babyyyyyyy it was good ! If we were whiney, we could say that the steaks were not very tender, sometimes the oatmeal at breakfast was too runny, but with so many choices there was no reason to have a good meal. Every meal, every day had many choices that I'm sure even the pickiest eater would find something good to eat.

Since the hotel is so close to Cabarete and Sosoua, you have to go visit them. We took a cab to Sosoua for $25 return and enjoyed walking the narrow streets and seeing the sights. The highlight was an ice cold beer at an open air bar that we discovered. When the bartender brought the beer, I noticed ice crysals on the bottle and the glass was frosted. It was soooo good on a nice hot day. We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant connected to the Terra Linda Resort. The fresh crab stew was amazing, while my wife and daughter enjoyed their coconut shrimp and chicken fajitas. It wasn't cheap, but the money we saved from the larimar ring I bought at Patrick's Silver Smithery paid for it. We also enjoyed walking to Cabarete which is almost right beside the hotel. For such a small town, it sure seemed very busy. The narrow main street was buzzing with activity, many shops and restaurants. We discovered the Belgian Bakery which served amazing treats.

There were only a few negatives that we could see with the Viva Wyndham Tangerine. The bar needs about 5 more tables to seat all that want to enjoy a drink or two. The beach and pool need about 20 more loungers for the sun lovers, we had to play the game of putting out our beach towels very early in the morning to ensure we got a lounger. We didn't want to play the game, but if you don't, you won't get a lounger.

So, all in all, we enjoyed our vacation very much. We will definitley consider bringing our entire family next year.

We are a couple of Canadians who Love the Dominican Republic and have been lucky enough to travel there for 19 years.( 2 week vacation , each winter.) and we have stayed at many different all inclusives...BUT the Viva is our favorite for many reasons. We love moderate prices . clean places, and people that genuinely care about your holiday.....

Please note that this resort is listed as a 3.5.....but with the location and the management and staff that work so hard to make sure you have a great time....make it a 4 plus star....This is a small resort....you will feel like you are visiting family...they make you feel so very much at home....no frills...But you won't forget how GOOD you feel..

Location: This lovely resort is right on the ocean..with a lovely beach that you can walk and enjoy the quiet beauty of this area.....a 10 minute walk takes you to the incredible town of Cabarete. with restaurants and shops plus you can experience the friendly Dominican people. You will enjoy this so very much .
You can swim in the pool,,,overlooking the ocean and watch the windsurfers ....all at the same time...wow.
It seemed to be very windy this year....so swimming sometimes could be difficult in the late afternoon..( with large waves) .but the morning was absolutely wonderful..

Resort: The first time you see the front lobby , you think "ok..it's a small place. not outstanding at first glance" but as soon as you turn the corner to the walkway that takes you to the rooms. restaurants. pool and ocean..you are struck immediately by the beautiful grounds..well kept and clean and so awesome. You will never forget the view...and it only gets better....

The rooms...To be honest .they are a little outdated....( curtains and duvets and sheets ) BUT they are cleaned daily... we never had any trouble with hot water...there is always two bottles of water each day in the fridge...Tv works, ample storage space and hanging space for clothing and the bathrooms are clean and large...and clean towels daily. Couldn't ask for more...

Pool...Kept clean everyday...cool and refreshing on a hot day, lots of space ..It was pretty busy when we were there...so you had to get up early to reserve your chairs.....

Animation Team....The best representatives of the Dominican People....they all worked so hard to make sure you enjoyed your holiday....lovely people...every one of them ...and they should be congratulated ...nightly shows were well rehearsed and very well done....and in the day ...they let you know the activities that were available for you to particapate in....they encouraged you but if you preferred to sit and relax...they understood completely ....a warm thankyou to all of them.

Food..The buffet had more than enough to choose from each day....no problems at all...lots of salad choices too, which I was very pleased about....Beef was chewy ..chicken was always good . bread was excellant and there was always pasta and pizza ...Desserts were plentiful...and the staff were right there when you needed them ...
I think our favorite was breakfast...fresh omelettes and egg dishes on your request and lots of fresh fruit and lovely bread etc.

We did go to the Mexican a la carte and it was good...lovely set up . with fresh linens ..situated in a lovely location, around the pool.....the ambiance was so lovely..We heard from friends we had met , that the Italian was also very good...

The snack bar was the best...and those guys deserve an applause ...always fresh pizza and french fries...and always served with a smile ...delicious..
The view,,,priceless..

The Bars....They had a pool bar. that actually handled all the quests adequately.....with great service.and always with a smile ...and a great selection of speciality drinks....

We had a wonderful experience again this year...it is amazing how many people we met that were also' repeat travellers and we all said the same thing........." We are just so happy to know that our holiday will be the best it can be...what's the need to change "perfect" . Thankyou Viva.....and salute.....

Room Tip: We loved building 24 or 23..although they were close to ocean..they were also close to theatre....no...

I think part of the reason the reviews of this hotel seem so bipolar are due to the expectations and biography of the guests. So to couch this review, I am a mid-thirties, upper-middle class female looking to spend a moderate price for a comfortable stay, no extensive luxuries needed. What I got was a moderate price for a hotel that was far below the threshold of acceptable. Upon arrival, we were told there was not a room available outside of the main building, but we would be on the third floor, so the noise from the disco would not be a problem. Every single night found us awake far past our preference due to the noise three floors below, and the drunk guests running around the hallways. Our room was bare bones minimal, which might have been okay except that the ceiling was leaking a steady puddle of water, there was no hot water, and the beds were so incredibly uncomfortable we had to stretch for a while each morning just to get the kinks out. They were also repainting portions of the hotel, and large chunks of paint were falling off into the lobby and hallways. The gym was the biggest disappointment--I don't know who took the pictures of the alleged "world class facilities," but they were in truth dirty, cramped, lacked decent/working equipment, and overrun by gym-goers who stared. The vendors on the beach are pretty much like everyone stated--annoying, but a firm "no" sends them on their way. This is an all-inclusive; but one of the restaurants isn't included in the price, another serves only drinks, and two more are open for dinner, and only by reservation. Which left one--La Bahia--which serves a buffet that was truly disgusting. We survived on fruit and yogurt, and went elsewhere for meals. And I would strongly advise against eating the cheese, unless you want to spend the rest of your day touring the Cabarate bathrooms. I will say that the maids kept the rooms clean, and the staff was friendly, assuming you ignored the Lifestyle time share people that pounced on you around every corner and tried to get you to listen to their pitch. The availabilities of tour packages, such as visiting 27 waterfalls or a Jeep Safari were astronomical in pricing, but the taxi cab fares were just as bad. So unless you rent a car, you're stuck with a lousy hotel that cares more about making money than the well-being of the guests. Wyndham should be ashamed to be associated with this property.

I was part of a group of eight adults that went to the Viva Wyndham Tangerine in Cabarete for one week in December 2012. It was my first time to the Puerto Plata area of the Dominican Republic so it was a new experience for my wife and I and I was impressed with all aspects of the resort. It was indeed a four star and I was very happy with the facilities, food, wireless access, bars, pools, activities, staff and accommodations. I will definitely return! I really enjoyed the close access to the shops, bars and restaurants down the beach in Cabarete and also had a great time in Sosua, diving with Dive Cabarete and walking around the beach and downtown area of Sosua.

Room Tip: it's not a big resort so room choice is not a big deal in my opinion. There are a few small room...
