In between two noisy towns, skanky Sosua and surf-city Cabarete, is an oasis of peace and tranquility. Ten cabanas built to blend with the tropical forest and a stone's throw from its own beach. Combined with service that is personal, two restaurants that pride themselves on fine cuisine, a spa and a yoga center and you have paradise with a mission -- relax!! We are not spa people and I personally cannot watch yoga without laughing, far less participate. But in this place I could feel stress coming off me that I didn't know I had. We all claimed long nights of restful sleep on fine mattresses. At first I was apprehensive about the absence of air conditioning, but the nights were cool and sound of the surf was hypnotic. It was October so I can't say conditions would be the same all year. During the day the front desk helped us with the lay of the land, local attractions and a rental car. We took in The Monkey Jungle and a restaurant called Simply Red which I am also reviewing favorably. To me the details made this place special: The almonds that fell from the shade trees were dried, sliced and roasted to dress the fresh fruit. The windows were framed with spiral shells. The stone-lined pool was cleaned of debris in between my daughter's splash sessions. And, quite purposefully, you can only get wi-fi in the reception area. When I saw my nine-year-old reading a book in the hammock I knew this was no ordinary hotel. I would recommend this place to the stressed out and overworked who finally admit to needing a break.

Room Tip: The Caribe cabana is in front of the pool and has its own access to reception. The front desk actua...

Located an easy 15mins drive from Puerto Plata Airport

Very beautiful & very clean, located in a safe gated community.

We stayed in 'Piedra' for 3 nights at the start of our holiday.

This is no run of the mill hotel it is very special.

We particularly liked being able to choose the actual room stayed in on the website http://www.naturacabana.com/ING/galeria.html

Breakfast is included & is pretty good, need to ask if you want an omelette!

Dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

Massage and pedicure were great.

Overall this place deserves to be up near the top on tripadvisor however it is really not cheap & the management would appear to prefer to leave rooms empty rather than reduce the rate.

I suffered due to the lack of aircon, not the hotels fault as it's clear on the website, but nevertheless we decided not to go back for 2 further nights at the end of our holiday because of this & the price.

Didn't stop us returning for a quick snack before heading to the airport!

Room Tip: When you arrive if you don't love the room ask to see any others available!

I returned to Natura Cabana with my two sons for a surf vacation after discovering it upon missing our flight last June. The place is a jewel! The service is exceptional from the front desk staff, to all of the restaurant and kitchen staff and the housekeepers. The location is lovely, right on a coral free beach that is great for swimming with the kids, and it is close enough to surfer's beach to walk if need be (about 20 minutes). The pool, treehouse and wooden swings, and the great eco--friendly cabanas made it a perfect spot for us to unwind and bond. Also, the food is excellent - both the included breakfast offerings, as well as the lovely restaurant open for dinner. Another great amenity is the yoga pavilion where daily yoga classes are held (mostly locals come for this - so the instruction is top notch - not a wimpy resort yoga class!).

We will be back again!

Room Tip: Ask for a cabana close to the beach to get the best sounds of the surf at night

My boyfriend and I just returned from a trip to the DR, where we stayed in Santo Domingo and Cabarete. The country is a little hectic (which was to be expected), and Natura Cabana was a wonderful retreat from all the craziness. We stayed in the Piedra Cabana, which was so nice and had everything we needed. It was great to have a fridge and a little stove so we were able to eat lunch on the cheap and keep our beers cold for after the beach. Our favorite part of the day was coming back from kiteboarding for an afternoon swim on the beautiful private beach and then sitting on our awesome porch to relax before dinner. The food at the restaurant is wonderful, and our waiter Arolfo (sp?) was so so friendly, as was all the staff. Everyone is multi-lingual and very helpful.

I took one yoga class while I was there which was great, but it was difficult to swallow the $20/class price. Nonetheless, I think it's an awesome service they provide, and being in the "open-air yoga temple" facing the beach pretty much makes it worth it (the teacher is very good too, and handles teaching to varying levels well).

The only recommendation I would make with regard to this hotel is that if you are going to stay there, you should probably rent a car (which I would do in Puerto Plata). We did feel like if we hadn't had a car we would have felt a little isolated.

Overall we had a fantastic experience here and would definitely consider staying here again!

Room Tip: Make sure to get a cabana with a great porch!

We found Natura Cabanas by chance on the Internet. We wanted a nice play to stay in DR, but not an overwhelming resort; we wanted a place with character and comfort. We found all that and more at Natura Cabana. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us like royalty and family, a rare combination. The location is terrific: the beach is relaxing and as uncrowded as one imagine; and the cabanas themselves are gorgeous, comfortable and inspire total relaxation and happiness. Cabarete and Sosua are within a quick taxi ride, so you can easily head to town if you need to. We cannot wait to return.

Lovely resort, very quiet and comfortable. Good facilities with two restaurants/bars, yoga and spa and own private beach and pool.

Situated in a safe, enclosed area - only a short, 10min drive away from Cabarete and Sosua towns.

The staff are very helpful and charming - they made our holiday special.

Tips: Avoid the all inclusive resorts and try something different, like Natura Cabana. Explore the island (you can rent a car for US$40 p/d) and mingle with the locals, the Dominicans are lovely people. The food in general can be a little average (watch where you eat!), but there are some good restaurants - I highly recommend Nikki Beach and Miro in Cabarete. It's best no to go out alone at night (specially if you're a girl as the boys are pretty keen over there :) ) and avoid the public taxi service - they can be pretty dangerous; instead use the tourist/private taxi service which will cost you a fraction more but it's worth it.

Our family of five...three adults and two teenage daughers thoroughly enjoyed our week at Natura Cabana. Overall the service was lovely...from main reception to waiters, cooks and housekeeping. Non intrusive but very welcoming and helpful with sight seeing logistics. Two restaurants on site are quite good and all you need but there is also a small store at entrance to adjacent neighborhood for extra water, snacks etc. Cabarete restaurants (lots of beach dining) are a short taxi ride (or a 1 1/2 hour adventurous walk) for a nice change of pace and scenery. The cabanas are well built, highly individualized and beautifully decorated. The grounds well kept and full of small community spaces. The yoga "temple" is truly amazing and the instruction was most excellent! Be aware it does cost $20/class and is open to cabin quests as well as the local community. Generally a great place for romantic getaway or a wonderful place with young children (pool, swing set, treehouse) and teenagers who like to beach and read or play in the surf. There is a surf school a short walk down the beach as well as horse back riding available. Also a fantastic golf course (one hour taxi) which at this time is largely deserted due to the affiliated hotel being closed. However, if you are an avid golfer, it is known as "the "pebble beach of the DR" adn well worth the drive.
