This hostel was awesome. The staff was so friendly and went out of there way to make out trip enjoyable. I have traveled all over the world and it was by far my favorite hostel that I've been to. I ended up staying a month. The only thing was it was about a 10 minute walk from the town but the moto taxis are super cheap. I definitely recommend staying there

the hostel itself is a very cool building(just like the pictues) and in a good location, about a half mlie outside of town..but beware, it is located right next to a swamp,so the mosquitoes are beyond terrible..they provide no mosquitoe netting, which espeacially there,is an absolute necessity!! also no ceiling fans in most of the rooms or working air condtioning, aslo a huge necessity!! between the mosquitoes, and the heat, sleep was difficult and uncomfortable..the beds are also very uncomfortable..my bed had broken springs sticking me in my back! most of the lockers provided to keep your stuff safe, didnt actually lock..also they have no work out center, restraunt, bar, or cafe as avertised.so if u are a coffee drinker,be sure to bring your own,and u might want to hide it in your room, the staff seems to help themselves to your food and coffee! also no hot water..get used to cold showers only! i could tolerate all of theses things..if the enviroment of the hostel was friendly and welcoming..ive stayed at many hostels,in many differnt places, and this was the first truly bad experince ive had..the owner and staff were very rude and unhelpfull..just trying to get a towel was a problem..was not able to get laundry done at all..and i was there over a week ! also if your from the u.s. expect to be treated like an outsider..i travel and enjoy staying in hostels, mainly for the experince of meeting people from all over the world..but ive never felt so uncomfortable or so unwelcome anywhere !also the only hostel ive stayed where men can bring prostitutes back to their dorm room!! there are a number of cool places for cheap in cabarete..check out surf camp or the cabarete beach hostel..amazing ocean veiws..and no matter where u come from they treat u like family!!

Room Tip: all the rooms are large..but the private rooms have no ceiling fans or working a.c...most of the do...

First of all let me update everyone on the kitchen situation. The kitchen is indeed available for guest use. We cooked a few meals there. It was never too crowded that we had to wait to cook or anything like that. The hostel itself is very spacious and has nice amenities (pool table, books and DVDs available, pool, etc). It's located in the far end of the Pro-Cab area in Cabarete, so getting to and from town is a bit of a hike (maybe a 15 min walk?). If you don't want to walk in the heat of the day, there are usually a few "taxi-moto" guys strolling around looking for passengers. Staff is very attentive and are ready to answer any questions. One thing I have to wonder is, why are there not any fans on the private rooms? Without a fan and without the door/windows open, the rooms are pretty warm, and opening the windows is not an inviting option in an area prone to having a lot of bugs. So we decided to pay for A/C (which is $5 dollars extra). In the end, it worked semi-ok the first night; didn't work at all the second night due to a power failure that kind of rebooted it or something. We still had to pay for the two nights which was a little upsetting. In between the no fan situation and the long walk to town, I think I'd rather pay more somewhere else where I get the same kind of quiet but is closer to town. And has a fan in the room. Not entirely sure I'd like to stay here again. It was just OK.

The staff here is great! They will help you with ANYTHING you need. Just ask them, and do not hesitate. They are the nicest staff I have ever seen at a Hostel/Hotel. You have an Italian couple who cooks the best food I've eaten in Dominican Republic. You have a gym by the pool, and all the walls are painted by a local artist. There is free Wifi, and a great lobby equipped with a pool table, TV, DVD, CD player/sound system, etc.

Laguna Park is clearly going down hill fast (as someone who has stayed here two consecutive years). The kitchen where fellow travelers could once gather and cook affordable meals is NOW GONE, so plan on paying true tourist prices at their new restaurant NOT for the hosteler/budget traveler. If you have a problem in your room, don't expect to get it fixed, and if you have to checkout for a flight, a Caribe tours bus, or anything else, be prepared to wait around the hostel until the owner feels like coming in to check you out and give you back your deposit...that's what he told 20 hostelers trying to check out after the new year 2012. The shuttle service is now gone as well, so plan on walking A LOT. Do yourself a favor, and get three of your friends to go in on a hotel room by the beach. You'll spend the same amount of money, be closer to the beach and have a better stay.

This is by far the best place I've stayed in while visiting Cabarete. I'm dominican, so I've had my share of stays in different hotels, none of them beat the atmosphere in Laguna Park. Clean, colorful, comfortable. I LOVED the design and the idea of staying in a tiny castle. I think one of the best things from this place is that homey vibe because the owner makes you feel so welcome. I swear after a bit it felt like I was visiting a friend instead of actually paying to stay somewhere. And well, you can't beat the price. Don't think about it too much if you want to enjoy your stay in cabarete, this is the place. Im definately going back.

I came into Cabarete not knowing where to stay and to my good luck I found Laguna Park. I am from California, a surfer in my late 50s and traveling solo. The rates, the staff and the accommodations are great! Laguna is located in a gated community that makes it very peaceful and quiet with no traffic. The walk or a cheap motoconcho ride into or from town is very beautiful through the jungle neighborhood. The best food market in town is at the entrance to the neighborhood along with a bank and the gua-gua stop! But best of all is the staff, guards and hostess. The hostess is a stoked and knowledgeable local surfer and hooked me up with the best rental for a board and a ride to the beach at 6:30 am! The place is clean, safe and comfortable and I even bought the t-shirt!. The hostess even found and booked me another hostel for the next stop of my trip in Samana. The Dominican Republic was really fun and friendly and Laguna Park was a big factor of the success of my trip. I want to return to Cabarete in the winter, stay at Laguna and ride big CoCo Pops!!

Room Tip: The cheap room doesn't seem crowded because it's so big and has a door to the roof and a big...

Hostel LagunaPark is a welcoming, clean and safe budget place to stay for young and open minded travelers. Turns out most people that arrive in LagunaPark are solo travelers, so in one way LagunaPark is the perfect for the ones that travel alone, because all guests happen to bond really fast with each other, help each other with tips and tricks and no one ever gets bored or lonely here. On the other hand the hostel has great facilities and discounts for group trips. Big rooms with 2-8 beds, en-suite bathrooms (shower & WC), big living room with cosy sofas, plasma TV and free WiFi. All guests are sharing a very well equipped kitchen, which we really take care of to be clean. For the ones that don't want to make their own breakfast, the HouseBar offers a little breakfast buffet for a very economic price and even cheaper if you sign up for it up front! LagunaPark is LagunaPark because the hostel is right in front of the beautiful natural park of Cabarete, the Lagoon. The outside area of the property is a big tropical garden with swimming pool and sunbeds, a BBQ area for little parties. Usually BBQs happen spontaneously like once or twice a week, family style everyone makes one dish and then we share...we've seen some spectacular things there, specialties from all around the world. LagunaPark became a place with a really nice vibe, family atmosphere, a place to spend only a night or even two month. No matter what you'll leave with good fun memories and a couple of new friends that you've made! ... more   less
