“Best Hostel Hospitality”

The staff here is great! They will help you with ANYTHING you need. Just ask them, and do not hesitate. They are the nicest staff I have ever seen at a Hostel/Hotel. You have an Italian couple who cooks the best food I've eaten in Dominican Republic. You have a gym by the pool, and all the walls are painted by a local artist. There is free Wifi, and a great lobby equipped with a pool table, TV, DVD, CD player/sound system, etc.

Laguna Park is clearly going down hill fast (as someone who has stayed here two consecutive years). The kitchen where fellow travelers could once gather and cook affordable meals is NOW GONE, so plan on paying true tourist prices at their new restaurant NOT for the hosteler/budget traveler. If you have a problem in your room, don't expect to get it fixed, and if you have to checkout for a flight, a Caribe tours bus, or anything else, be prepared to wait around the hostel until the owner feels like coming in to check you out and give you back your deposit...that's what he told 20 hostelers trying to check out after the new year 2012. The shuttle service is now gone as well, so plan on walking A LOT. Do yourself a favor, and get three of your friends to go in on a hotel room by the beach. You'll spend the same amount of money, be closer to the beach and have a better stay.

This is by far the best place I've stayed in while visiting Cabarete. I'm dominican, so I've had my share of stays in different hotels, none of them beat the atmosphere in Laguna Park. Clean, colorful, comfortable. I LOVED the design and the idea of staying in a tiny castle. I think one of the best things from this place is that homey vibe because the owner makes you feel so welcome. I swear after a bit it felt like I was visiting a friend instead of actually paying to stay somewhere. And well, you can't beat the price. Don't think about it too much if you want to enjoy your stay in cabarete, this is the place. Im definately going back.

I came into Cabarete not knowing where to stay and to my good luck I found Laguna Park. I am from California, a surfer in my late 50s and traveling solo. The rates, the staff and the accommodations are great! Laguna is located in a gated community that makes it very peaceful and quiet with no traffic. The walk or a cheap motoconcho ride into or from town is very beautiful through the jungle neighborhood. The best food market in town is at the entrance to the neighborhood along with a bank and the gua-gua stop! But best of all is the staff, guards and hostess. The hostess is a stoked and knowledgeable local surfer and hooked me up with the best rental for a board and a ride to the beach at 6:30 am! The place is clean, safe and comfortable and I even bought the t-shirt!. The hostess even found and booked me another hostel for the next stop of my trip in Samana. The Dominican Republic was really fun and friendly and Laguna Park was a big factor of the success of my trip. I want to return to Cabarete in the winter, stay at Laguna and ride big CoCo Pops!!

Room Tip: The cheap room doesn't seem crowded because it's so big and has a door to the roof and a big...

This was my first stay ever at a hostel. And it is truly the benchmark for any hostel I will stay-in in the future. Although I was the oldest person there, I never felt out of place. No one was within 15 years of my age. We all hit it off so well, we were grocery shopping together and cooking shared meals. Even the manager, Sabrina, was eating with us. We were from all over the globe: Slovenia (borders Italy on the north), Germany, Venezuela and the US.

Maintain supply of drinking water in the refrigerator because it gets hot in Cabarete. The pool was not deep, but adequate length to do exercise laps. Laundry service worked well. Security was there every night, all night long. 24 hour access. Far enough away from main road so you did not here the constant motor bike traffic that NEVER STOPS!!! the grounds were well maintained and the building is well designed. I could only get a strong Wi-Fi signal on the ground floor in the common areas.

Sleep quality was rated low because of lack of AC and ceiling fan did not provide strong breeze. Mattresses in shared area were thin. Your comfort level will very.

Hostels distance from main road (approximately a 1/2 mile) was good for me because the tourist areas can get busy and noisy! I felt totally safe no matter what time of day or night I walked to and from the hostel, mostly after 2am.

Room Tip: Large shared room bed is low to floor and mildly comfortable. Lack of AC hindered my sleep quality.

I really had a great stay at El Castillo. The hostel itself is VERY clean, from the pool and the rooms to the bathrooms and kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked with utensils/pots/pans. The common area is welcoming with the couches, chairs, t.v., table, snack bar, WiFi. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Sabrina is a wonderful host, just a very relaxed person. I very much recommend El Castillo.

Actually I am laying in my hammock of the balcony of my room, watching the nature. "El Castillo" is a place you will love. In the middle of the laguna, but not far away of the town and beach. Pretty new rooms, cool designed, very clean, a gentle management which attends directly. They already force new ideas to make the hostel much more comfortable. But not luxury, it is smart and easy - and low-priced! A lot of nice travllors. Not hard to make friends in these ambiance. I feel welcomed and save. You will enjoy it and you will save money! | Rebecca, Germany

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hostel LagunaPark is a welcoming, clean and safe budget place to stay for young and open minded travelers. Turns out most people that arrive in LagunaPark are solo travelers, so in one way LagunaPark is the perfect for the ones that travel alone, because all guests happen to bond really fast with each other, help each other with tips and tricks and no one ever gets bored or lonely here. On the other hand the hostel has great facilities and discounts for group trips. Big rooms with 2-8 beds, en-suite bathrooms (shower & WC), big living room with cosy sofas, plasma TV and free WiFi. All guests are sharing a very well equipped kitchen, which we really take care of to be clean. For the ones that don't want to make their own breakfast, the HouseBar offers a little breakfast buffet for a very economic price and even cheaper if you sign up for it up front! LagunaPark is LagunaPark because the hostel is right in front of the beautiful natural park of Cabarete, the Lagoon. The outside area of the property is a big tropical garden with swimming pool and sunbeds, a BBQ area for little parties. Usually BBQs happen spontaneously like once or twice a week, family style everyone makes one dish and then we share...we've seen some spectacular things there, specialties from all around the world. LagunaPark became a place with a really nice vibe, family atmosphere, a place to spend only a night or even two month. No matter what you'll leave with good fun memories and a couple of new friends that you've made! ... more   less
