if you're visiting Cabarete, you MUST have the seafood at La Casita De Papi! We were recommended to dine here and did so on our first night. We got the dorado and seafood plate, both of which were great - but little did we know about their specialty, the langostinos (aka baby lobsters) and camarones (aka shrimps). People we met on a tour went on and on about them, so we went back for them later in the week and were blown away. The "de Papi" preparation has it's fair share of butter and cream but it's SO worth it - the meat literally melts in your mouth! The camarones are less like shrimp and more like prawns, which makes them even more delectable. They have a lot of seating on the beach, underneath the palm trees - but our second visit we sat right in front of the kitchen and as the owner put it, "it's better than TV" to watch! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Cabarete - a tie for my favorite meal during our week-long vacation! (and they take AMEX and MasterCard! - huge plus!)

This is by far the best restaurant in Cabarate- and one of the best lobster dishes I have had.
The crab cakes as a starter are to die for. But the lobster cooked and presented in a pan of a very special sauce is the highlight.
Be prepared to wait for a table on weekend or holidays as the word is well out. While neighboring restaurants are empty, this has a long line of eager fans.
Don't leave Cabarate without visiting

We had heard very good reviews of this place so we decided to check it out. Our first attempt was on Christmas, they were understandably very busy and since we didn't have reservations we didn't feel like waiting 45 mins for a table.

Our next attempt was the following evening. We were told that we would have to wait a short while. We were then escorted we a back area to sit indoors and wait...and wait. We were brought a menu with drinks and dinner.. dinner menu in French. (Apparently they also have an English and Spanish version) since the group of 4 I was with all knew some French, we considered it a challenge.

Long story short.. the night became a pattern of long waits for acknowledgement and proper service. We are quite happy to enjoy leisurely dinners but this one was ridiculous... to the point of bringing out our meals separately.. last one close to 15 mins after first two. With no apologies or explanation at any time.

One of the owners did come over to check on us as we were trying to figure out the bill.. when we told him of our disappointment he could only explain it by saying that the staff had partied too much the night before. He did come back a few minutes later and offer a round of drinks. We didn't dare take him up on it for fear of how long it would actually take to get them... seeing as on top of lack of service.it took us asking 3 times to finally get our bill. (He could have taken the round of drinks we already had off the bill but never offered)

This was our worst dining experience on our trip... even though it was one of the most expensive. Skip it.

I enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service but felt it was overpriced with small portions. The sauce was delicious that they put on the seafood and service was good. One expects to get better value in the Dominican Republic.

Look no further when you visit Cabarete and want to enjoy fresh seafood prepared as if you were in a 5 star restaurant in a major cosmopolitan city. The owners pride themselves in their special pasties sauce and rightly so!! You MUST order the baby lobsters. You will not regret it!! For dessert I highly recommend the rum raisin ice cream.
